  1. Pre unit and twin power certainly gave the best showing, trials at its best.
  2. I think you are right Guys, on second viewing it does sound like a twin. Tried freezing the picture but not possible to see details.
  3. Thank you Guys that was a very enjoyable watch. Who was the rider on the white tank bike, was it a two stroke hard to tell when it flew by.
  4. If you really want to know what the ACU and AMCA do then why not write or email both organisations and please share with us their reply to you.
  5. I fail to understand why the two organisations ACU and AMCA are getting such negative comments, without them who would represent us at national level to whoever happens to be having a dig at motorcycle sport, who would keep an eye on changing legislation that could affect our pastime or assist in legal matters when problems arise. It is easy to complain about this or that maybe justifiably sometimes but both bodies are needed especially when dealing with the likes of defra.
  6. The system sold by InMotion/Dave Renham is very good and well proven.
  7. It really depends on which trials you want to ride, nothing wrong with an older bike just make sure it starts easily and runs properly so good carb and ignition absolutely essential.
  8. Think it was the Pointer Sisters who sang 'slow hand easy touch' so like me I guess they preferred the slow action type!
  9. I have a TR77 there is no packing in the mid box on that model. Rear silencer on my bike is an alloy one from a mx bike cut down as described by woody, noise level is right and the bike rides very smoothly. Ellastone off road is the place for a s/h back box.
  10. It is with great sadness that I report the passing of Harold Critchlow, Harold who was 74 years of age died on October the 11th following a short illness. His funeral is to be held at Carmountside, Stoke on Trent on Monday October 31st at 11am. Harold was a long time member of Stafford Auto Club and rode as a Stafford Auto team member in the midland group trial series and a frequent competitor throughout the midland centre. He leaves behind daughter Sharon and son Steven.
  11. Lovely paint job on the tank, what colour is the frame and other parts? The tank sits on the rubbers at the front then held in place by the seat but it needs rubber between it and the frame aas well as the seat if possible to avoid metal to metal contact or chafing on the seat base. Hope you post pics when it is finished.
  12. http://www.yamaha-majesty.com/have many parts available so might be a good place to begin with. Betor rear shocks are good value from Villiers Services, length I think is 340mm. Any one know the total number of Godden framed bikes produced in all capacities?
  13. Search for Triumph Tiger Cub in the pre 65 forum here on tc there are posts regarding gearing and engine sprocket sizes on there. Personally I think you need the std 19t on the crank but many do use a 16 or 17t instead for trials with as was said a 13 or 14 on the gearbox then 60 or more on the rear wheel.
  14. Rickman did their adjustment that way Penton we never had here in the UK. There is something about the build of the bike that shouts Cotton who I believe made the AJS frames possibly at the time the end of the Villiers era some models were produced in penny numbers or even individually to order. Maybe Villiers Services have a list of when engines were produced and the customer it went to or if you could contact Colin Dommett he might know more he was closely involved with Cotton motorcycles at one time.
  15. I think you are going to have to accept compromise when choosing gear ratios as no one set up will be good at everything you want to ride. If geared for the road then trials will be out of the question but if geared for trials roadwork is quite possible, same for green lanes but it depends what type of roadwork you want to do? Best option is speak to Bob at UPB Cub he can supply all the advise as well as the bits you should need. 420 chain is the usual one for a Cub in trials use but you must fit a gearbox sprocket with a small amount of offset usually 13 or 14t with 60 to 66 on the rear. Trialsbits have a good range of rear sprockets. With regard to the gear/brake position you just get used to it. Good luck with the build, please tell us here on TC how it goes together.
  16. Definitely a Godden framed Yamaha Majesty 175 or 200 I have one the same. The first ones had modded standard frames then at different times yellow, red and chrome finish. Swing arm appears to be the Majesty made one, these were slightly longer than the modified Yamaha type which were also fitted to many Majesty bikes. Do not know where John Shirt had them chromed but the powder coated ones were finished at a powder coaters on the industrial estate at Leek which has recently closed down. Superb little bike, looks in good enough condition to give an end to end service then go and ride it.
  17. I think it is a Cotton Starmaker trials bike, not sure what the model was called but i have seen Cotton fitted with the leading spindle MP forks before. Seem to recall reading that Cotton made the AJS 37a trials as well, the frame is very Cotton looking but with AJS similarities so presumably late 1960s? DMW also made a Starmaker engined trials bike just to add to the mix but they all used similar components.
  18. Hi Sam, as with any old bike part you never know what is original, repaired, or replaced with something else so firstly I would dismantle each leg checking to see that the stanchions are straight and move properly in the lower legs. You never really know if the springs have been changed but if they are incorrect they may become coil bound preventing the full fork movement. Alberta Springs at Colchester are very helpful with one off orders.
  19. The TR77 Verde had gold anodised rims fitted as standard, the earlier model with the black frame had plain alloy rims.
  20. Check the O ring seal located around the main jet area which fits into the float bowl, if this is a poor fit it causes many issues.
  21. Cannot help near to Kendal but can recommend Paul Jackson, see Yorks Classic website for details.
  22. No need to if you have the shorter forks fitted, the ones on my TR77 are the longer type so need to be set lower. If the spindle centre to top measurement is around 29"-30" then the forks are short ones, those on my bike measure 32" with 2" above the yoke.
  23. Thank you for the link, that will provide some interesting reading. Does the TR77 have shorter fork stanchions fitted, they do not appear to protrude through the upper yoke as do the normal type.
  24. Great job of the TR77, the Suzuki racer looks interesting too.
  25. Great achievement well done Dougie, 37 and a bit miles is a long long way. Just curious does anyone know if the powered front wheel rotated in the direction of travel or the other way (reverse) also does it speed up as the bike gathers pace?
