Having previously stripped the carb without finding a problem I once again dismantled it but this time noticed petrol in the right hand side float, so hopefully when the replacement arrives it will solve the Cub carburation issues.
Thank you for your help.

Good luck with the new venture Dougie.
-
Thank you for the above info.
I will check for oil in the inlet as well as the other things suggested.

Is there any way of testing for worn valve guides, is both valve and gude replaced as a pair. Are quality replacements readily available?
-
If it were worn guides would that produce smoke as it seems to run quite cleanly.
-
Thank you for that. The carb I have is jetted similarly but the plug is getting a black coating which causes rough running and loss of tick over, fit a new plug and all is good again. Ignition is PVL from Alan Whitton.
Might the carbs we have be jetted to suit the 250 Cub engines that Martin specialised in?
A 35 pilot jet would be a large size if fitted to a Mikuni or Amal Concentric fitted to a 250 2 stroke.
-
MY 199cc Cub is fitted with a 22mm Dellorto carb of the type supplied for the Triumph Cub so presumably correctly jetted but I think it runs a bit rich on the pilot jet, with no reference available that I can find I hope someone can suggest the preferred jet and slide combinations please?

22 ib-ft tightened in an X pattern at no less than two stages.

Saftek @ Cleckheaton Yorks green gripper material is excellent, they offer a relining service.

Have a look also the Beta 200 & 250 Rev 3 bikes either would provide a good introduction to trials, good luck.

When (not if) the rear wheel spindle bends it has to be driven out through the bearings which forces the bearings from the hub making them a looser fit and ruining the rear hub. The dished sprocket looks elegant but is best replaced with a flat one. Steve Sell Marlimar OSSA manufactures a sprocket carrier which uses sprockets from Beta, Gas Gas and the like so lots of sizes available at reasonable prices, he also makes a stainless steel rear spindle that should not give any trouble again.

I tend to think the Motoplat ignition is failing so a repair or new system from Steve Sell Marlimar OSSA.
-
There is one out there, try CustGP website.

Having a frame powder coated should not create any problems at all, are you sure you have had it powder coated as there are other finishes available which might be less suitable for a trials frame ?
-
I have often wondered if a frame made from T45 offers any real advantage over a similar one built using CDS tube.
Is T45 used throughout the frame or just for the main loop, would the T45 version have that tubing used for the steering head tube as well as the swing arm pivot, surely ordinary grade steel would be used for all the brackets on both so no gain there so what might the weight saving be?
-
Might the unfortunate and very sad news from Gas Gas mean Adam Raga is looking for a different ride ?
-
Congratulations to Dougie and team Vertigo on their great success in the Six Days.
-
Would it come with a bolted on pram if you ordered a sidecar outfit!!!!
-
Which side of the reed valve does the spacer fit?
-
Good luck with the Greeves, are you converting it back to original scrambles spec to race or show or use for trails?
-
A friend has a Beta 200 which he has owned from new it is superb with ALL the power you will ever need an all round good bike.

The trials forks have the lower yoke partly rearward of the legs with the V of the top yoke pointing forward, scrambles models have the lower yoke cross piece between the legs with the V top yoke pointing rearwards. The top yoke cannot be simply turned around as this would misalign the taper roller steering head bearings. When new the shear strength of the pivot bushes probably differed?
Earlier models of both types had the brake plate attached to the wheel loop which meant when the brake is applied the front of the bike rises, later models had a floating brake plate enabling full suspension travel under braking.
Engine cradle is different with the scrambles engine being mounted more centrally while the trials bike carries the cylinder nearer to the alloy beam which is same on both versions. The road bike I think was similar to the scrambles set up.
Swing arm length differed model to model.
The Stafford Classic Bike Show is next weekend why not come along as all types will surely be on display.

Pleased that you enjoyed your ride on the OSSA MAR. In my opinion the OSSA is a real gem yet overlooked by so many people.

Bultaco Sherpa hubs usually only require relining when the chromed braking surface wears thin or starts to lift away, then a cast iron ring is fitted to the hub to the same diameter as when the hub was new.
