  1. Starting a 4RT is really a "push through" with the kickstart lever. My bike usually takes three "push throughs" after sitting for more than 24 hours. During an event it starts each time with one push through. No starting or stalling problems whatsoever.

    Sherco 3.2

munch As a fellow 4rt rider it would be interesting to hear appraisal of the Sherco 4t versus the Montesa.

Think of all the lumber you could cut up with that rear sprocket. Looks like it has 60+ teeth.

Didn't Chaves ride a RYP 3.2 at the Tennessee US Nationals? Check this out: http://www.rypusa.com/
  5. Maybe I am missing something - what is the reason for this posting? It seems that an awful lot of people are wasting a lot of their time listing personal bikes owned in the past. Who cares? I would much rather see the time spent here put towards posting pictures of present bikes owned on the other forum posting.

    Hmm...

According to the specification sheet the tank hold 1.9L.
  7. Just received my copy of the TBM (subscription) magazine with the trials addition and I was very impressed also. The bike test was outstanding and carried out by riders of varying skill levels. It was a fair comparison and I cannot see how a manufacturer could fault the intentions of the test. Each brand has its own pecularities. Each brand has some lacking qualities and many positives. This test fairly evaluated each brand and left the prospective customer an idea of the differences each bike has. From a test like this one can proceed to personally test ride each bike. The manufacturer can see what the average rider feels about his bike and can strive to make some changes to meet customer demand. What a great test. One can only hope that TBM could find some way to continue with the YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE. I think everyone would benefit from an honest approach to the wants and needs of all riders and manufacturers. Congratulations TBM for a very honest and good job!

  9. Guess Montesa had the best solution - fuel injection.
  10. You would notice the same effect with a two stroke. Lower gearing will always create more of a braking effect. It would be much more pronounced on the 4RT if you lowered the idle speed which I tried along with the 44 tooth sprocket. I have since returned to factory settings for idle speed along with the 44 tooth sprocket and the result is very satisfactory. I have notice that Montesa has successfully reduced the braking effect more so than any other four stroke on the market that I have tried over the years. What is needed is for you to practice more and get used to what little braking effect is present. I am sure that in many situations you will find that this braking effect will prove to be beneficial to you.
  11. The Montesa 315 clutch reservoir bolts directly to the 4RT hose with no alterations. Be sure to bleed the line after the conversion to get all air bubbles out.
  12. There are a few trials clubs near Orlando. Contact Barry Florin at: cota66@cfl.rr.com
  13. I pretty much agree with all of the comments that Hillary made including the changes made to the bike. These changes are of course personal choices as it is a fine machine as received from the manufacturer. There is no need to remove the restrictors. If more power is required ( I don't see why ), then adjustments can be made electronically with kits available to the dealers. It is a fine machine and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of getting one.
  14. munch Have you made any changes to the rear brake pedal or purchased an aftermarket piece? barcota
  15. I have found that the 315 clutch lever reservoir on my 4RT drastically improves the progressiveness and ease of lever pull. You do not get the feeling of on/off with it. Have taken apart both reservoirs and cannot detect any design differences other than a difference in the amount of fluid each hold. Doesn't matter anyway as I am totally impressed with the difference. It is a must do for the 4RT.
  16. I did the same thing and I agree that the gearing is now ideal. Also installed a 315 clutch reservoir and the change in clutch operation is incredibly better. Took the hint from all of you Brits who have had the 4RT's much longer than your stateside buddies.
  17. Nice write-up RINGO. Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us.
  18. Obviously I would follow Martin's advice and return the bike to the dealer. I had the same problem with my 4RT when I first got it so I can give you a couple problematic things to check out from my experience. 1. In the beginning I had a bad spark plug so I replaced it. 2. After re-routing the gas tank vent hose I found out that I inadvertantly re-installed the vent ball restrictor upside down. The white end must be mounted with white end facing the tank or the ball check inside will create a vacuum in the tank. 3. The bike will stop running when idling with the kickstand down. It has an angle sensor that shuts the engine down when the bike is leaned at a pre-determined angle for more than six seconds. When idling for the two to three minutes recommended don't use the kickstand or the bike will stall. 4. Always use gasoline with an octane rating of more than 90 octane. The engine has a high compression ratio and I have found it runs much better with the higher octane rating. 5. As recommended in the owner's manual you should never even touch the throttle when starting as it will foul up the pre-set settings in the computer. I hope these tips will help you. Would appreciate you letting us know the final cause after having your dealer check the bike out. I am very pleased with my 4RT and know you will also once you get by this little problem.
  19. Trialsurfer - can you post a picture of the 45 degree diverter w/screen for the Cota exhaust?
  20. Lewisport is not far from San Francisco. You may want to take a drive over to see all of the parts and accessories and bikes they have. The man to talk to is Adrian. You can also visit their web site listed below. http://www.lewisportusa.com/
  21. Mr. Honda has been dead for many many years so it wouldn't matter to him at all.
