Some people will argue no-stop but we dont do it now (as stated above), the rest of the world dont do it so move on I say and make a positive change. Exactly and I feel exactly the same. Theres enough crap in this world to contend with without having to take a smile off a kids face when he/she has tried their best to get out a section and then having a penal system in place to say, "Well I know you done your best , but rules is rules and your getting a 5 for going backwards" If I was in the same situation as Speckled Hen was above and was forced to mark 'to the current rules' then I simply wouldnt do it. And like you Speckled Hen, it too is the highlight of the day for me and its the only reason I help run a club. Elwyn, I dont believe you sometimes

I reckon this is the case most of the time so why have the rule. Next to no one enforces it anyway. Rabie enforced the rule at his club and that’s his prerogative, but at the next trial these guys ride at another club it probably wont be the case. I would also like to hear what the observers had to say about it. Why put critical ambiguous decisions in the hands of an observer who really don’t want the hassle of an argument or be at the centre of a dispute if it’s a close call. P*** them off and they wont do it again.!! I say just scrap the damn rule and don’t tell me that we will have hours waiting in the sections for the poseurs. We don’t have it now when we don’t enforce the rule, so why will we have it if its removed officially. All our trials are marked like this and the ones I ride at other clubs are too. (except the odd observer) Simple - keep it as a dab is a dab up to three then 5 for a failure. Sooooo easy

Thats what I allow anyway.. also, you have the option as a trial organiser to mark the trial as you wish as long as its in the regs ( so Im told ! )

I dont penalise anyone who is balancing stationary without putting their feet down. Its skill in my view but as long as they dont take the p*** then its ok. I dont know anyone else who does either..

Its great to hear the likes of Ross & Alexz are being followed up by many more talented youth riders. And all of this without the massive support the spanish get . As you know , Trials Central is really behind the promotion of our best youth riders. We now have the youth forums and a front page section dedicated to them. I try to think of running a trial like running a business. The riders are customers and they pay a fee to ride a trial. Make it a good experience for them and you have happy customers who want to come back. The observers are like work colleagues. Treat them as you would want to treated yourself. The rest is just a load of hard work but damn its good fun when it goes well and is appreciated.

How good is smadge? I have no idea. Are there any videos of him we could see?

If that comment is refering to my above post then I didnt say it correctly and you have misunderstood me . I meant that we would get there and actually help Russ do the signing on or whatever for the other riders not just get there early to sign on ourselves. Also, Congrats Flying Dab. You joined the site in June '04 and just made your first post is that a record??? ( or is the DB out of sync Andy? )

[1] We (Breidden Hills) would certainly get there early and help you out with with the signing on or whatever. I know we arent in your centre but we can all appreciate the problems of a big entry when theres not a lot of you. (Same goes to any club that I ride at ) [2] The sections were good. The level of difficulty was spot on for the clubman route however I did find section 3 very difficult but so did most people. If it wasnt icy on that first ridge the section would have been fine. Even with that stream of mud flowing down at you Freak conditions made the travelling between sections hard - in the summer you wouldnt have got me away from the place, its got everything ! The views from the top where Elwyn was were simply stunning. It was the first time we had been there and we did have problems finding our way around on a few sections. Most were ok. Must strongly agree with you in relation to the observers - damn it went very cold late on.

I was looking forward to the trial but the day turned miserable pretty quick and didn’t get much better The delayed start had a major effect. I would suggest that one of us like me/gaz or another helper could help out here in future to get them through quicker. I certainly wouldn't mind helping if required. Doing it all on his own as well as issuing bibs etc was pretty slow. Hardly surprising it took so long We started at section 10. I was first through and it was just past 12.00pm.It took exactly 3 hours to finish the first lap. It was clear to us that we wouldn’t get around in daylight and to be honest, I couldn’t face that icy climb up to 7 again because people were coming down it as well as trying to get up it! It was an accident waiting to happen. So I rode a few sections the 4 times for the practice then called it a day. The sections were mostly pretty good I reckon. Harder than the normal clubman route we would ride and I like them like that so no complaints at all there. Some sections had parts that if you got stuck you couldn’t get out quick so it took a while to clear the section before the next rider could come through. And some sections were very long so again took a while to get through. The bad attitude was present and I believe the late start was the major cause as some riders were desperate to get round and finish pushing in and racing by without helping others. Not seen it like this at any other trial I been to as yet. I have to say the venue is awesome with loads of stuff to go at. Great potential. Still, overall a lot of work for 2 guys.. More help on the day would have made a big difference I think.

The tenner is insignificant as a proportion of the money we paid last year to the ACU, its only 0.5%. I'm not moaning either, I like doing the club stuff. Its just there seems to me there is an imbalance in the finances and I have proposed a way in which to address that. By all means suggest another if you dont feel its appropriate?
