How do you think riders in the Midlands would cope with a full non-stop type trial when it isnt the norm round here?
-
Thanks for that We will be operating our trials this year under the TSR22A rule in line with ACU rules with no changes. We feel Its important for the riders that we have in our club who do national competitions (like Ross Danby for instance) that we operate rules that are the same as what they will find elsewhere to keep continuity.
However, in line with the origination of this post, I think its worth keeping the discussions going on what riders actually want from a trial in the way of being marked? And also ( and probably more important ) what is easy and simple for the observers too. We can debate forever this idea and that idea but if we have something that is easy to operate and the riders like it, then the success of trials is assured ! Simple as simple gets dont you think?
All in my opinion of course
-
You have misunderstood me. I dont want it to be complicated to observe at club level. Quite the opposite in fact. Thats a contradiction of terms! How can you be allowed to stop but then be penalised for it?
-
I don't think we can do that, if the event is being run with an ACU permit, as to allow sideways bouncing with no penalty contravenes the Sporting Code which is not allowed.
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Stopping without penalty is allowed in Team Trials in the midlands centre! TSR22A - Stopping Allowed. (In the pink fixture list book under group trials) . I understand this as 1 mark for stopping is not applicable? Hopping sideways isnt allowed without forward motion and results in a Failure TSR22(d) although I dont want to penalise it at all. If it has to be penalised then a 5 is too harsh I believe.Maybe a 1 for each occurrence up to 3 maybe? (After reading the sporting code I didnt see how changing this contravenes anything )
The only time I think you should get 5's outside the obvious dismount is if you go backwards whilst having your feet/foot down.
-
What I am saying is make most of them open trials. Theres not many clubs that have enough members to run trials just for their own members (who actively play a part in the clubs running) are there? I'm interested in stimulating conversation and ideas on getting more of a 'club' aspect than it is now. More of a community thing maybe.. Hopefully so more people would come forward and play a part in the club.
-
After discussion with a few people we have decided not to run our trials as pure non-stop or even to the 1 mark for stopping whilst balancing. Many reasons for this but the concensus of opinion is its too far removed from what the rest of the clubs do in our area and the terrain we have at some venues makes it difficult to lay out sections that can test an expert and keep them moving.
So, not going to find out now .. I will travel up t'north and try some up there to see what they are like.

Following This Thread on trials clubs getting observers, it begs the question,
What is a Trials Club??
I ask the question as I dont see it currently as a club due to the way the centres work!!!
My club is in the Midlands Centre so if I ride in the Mid Wales Centre I have to join one of their clubs to ride in that centre.. and so forth around the country.
I believe getting people interested in one specific club is somewhat hindered because of this.
I would like to see someone be able to join 'ONE' club and ride anywhere in the country under that clubs name, the purpose being to get brand loyalty. This would make people want to get more involved if they felt part of something especially if you have some riders that get about a bit. (Good advertising ! )
If you go to another centre to ride in their championship then they can charge a one off levy ( same as having to join their club) to ride but still keep your clubs name.
Comments or any other suggestions please?

Thats a real shame having to pull sections when someone has had to put the effort in marking them out
-
Definate 5 don't care what rules your riding under, going backwards is a 5
Why is it when I made the same comment it got deleted. Are you censoring the Americans now Andy?
<{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I deleted it. When someone asks a genuine question in either the bike specific forums or the Technical forums then if someone posts a comment which adds no value to the thread, it gets deleted. The post you refer to had some advice on contacting MRS so I left it in.

Results are up http://www.breiddenhillsmcc.org - Tough trial I thought but OK after Buzz eased 2 sections after the first lap.

You can talk Marky G!!! You're still trying to get rid of the excess eating you had at Christmas .... Christmas 1998 I mean Yeah I had a pic too. Nice touch I thought.
-
I havent got a Gasser but thats a great site for all riders. Thanks for the link

Elwyn, you're at it again
I have ridden the venue and will be riding there on sunday all being well. As Desperado said, It will be a well organised trial with excellent sections and marking. If the weather gets a bit wet, then it will be very slick so as you ride a scorpa, grip should be no problem
Worth going for sure.

looks like a virtual stock market game to me
-
Excellent Alan We hope to go down again for this one and take some photos/videos. Would it be possible to get some stronger lighting in the arena at all?Just to assist us to get better quality photos without using too powerful flash.
Many thanks
Cheers

Coulndt agree more Adsy When I go practising with Ross it never ceases to amaze me what that 125 can do with him on it and its all technique and so nice to watch. He had a go on my 290 and made instant use of the extra power with his technique solidly in place. Learning the trade on a 125 is without doubt the best way to go for youths for sure.
By the way, will Smadge be at the USA Youth round coz when we go over It would be good to see what he rides like if hes the best youth rider you have?
-
Right so whats that in English
-
Photos are nice but dont tell the whole story.. when can we see some video footage? I would love to see some.
-
We were up there the weekend and think we can mark out the sections in a way that no hopping will be necessary on any route except when it can be done on the move. Its an interesting challenge as I certainly havent marked out sections in a way that the experts wont need to hop'n'bop before. One can do but try
-
I had a chat with Elwyn our club Chairman and hes in agreement we run our club championship this year on the no-stop rules. The first being on the 5th March at Nant Mawr Quarry, (Which Andy is coming down to by the way ) .I will let you know how it goes..
-
Ok Gaz, lets run a non-stop event in our area and see how it goes down? I certainly would give it a try. We will just need to make sure the sections are marked out to allow for it and it's down to us as CoC's to do the job properly
To be honest, the problem is I have been practicing for ages to learn how to stop and balance and I wont need it anymore
So, what are the rules you use for non stop? is it like it was in the 80's?
Stop with your feet down and its a 5? tell me more. what problems do you have etc etc.?
Also, is there any chance that the FIM will go to non-stop in the future?
-
I would agree but you didnt answer Desperdo's question. For Non-Stop to be Non-Stop, Endo's would not be allowed and all the best riders do them. In my book an endo is a stop as you have to have the front brake full on to do it. Are you saying that no one at all done an endo ?
And if you want to take it further, you actually go backwards during an endo as when the bike lifts it rocks forward on the radius of the front wheel, then as the bike drops it rocks back.
-
Well Adsy & Perce, you both make good arguments for No-Stop although the Hop & Bop brigade you refer to only comes from 10% of our entry anyway because thats the percentage of riders capable of doing it. All the rest of us mere mortals are happy to just get around. But still, there are calls for no-stop and there are calls for allowing stopping ! I think we as club organisers should make the choice of whats best for our area and run the trial accordingly. Problem sorted
I agree with Jools too, Organisers should brief the Observers better . We will do that in future for sure
