Im finding that the '06 290 is playing up rotten when the weather is cold. Until I been riding it for about 20 mins. As I tow my bike about on a trailer, The weather on sunday was cold freezing fog and I found that when I got to the trial the air filter was a bit damp and frozen a bit. ( even though it was prepared with Air Filter Oil ) Im going to take a spare filter prepared next time kept warm and change them when I get there. See if that helps. Any body else having similar problems?

theres a steady little jaunt of a trial going on in fort William, This May day bank holiday,It only lasts six days, why not have a go at that, how does between 80 to 126 miles per day sound to ya?? No, my question was based on curiosity as I have never been brave (or fit) enough to try one but looking at the posts above, I can feel the passion oozing out and its contagious. Me thinks its time I had a go Whats a good one to start with as a newbie

Just before the purist's start going crazy, this is just meant as an observation but why are there still trials that have a 'road' element in them. I understand from the early days that most trials bikes were road bikes anyway so it didnt matter, but nowadays, a modern trials bike just aint suited to the road. no seat, a petrol tank that holds sod all and tyres that are just crap to use on the road.( as well as they dont last long either) So whats the point? The other obvious observation is it excludes youths who arent old enough to get a licence. What does riding on the road add to a trial ?. If its regarded as an endurance test then thats better to be done off road surely. Its certainly safer? or is it just because its tradition? comments please ?

Good observation I think The other thing about the US is sports that are BIG over your way are stadium sports. The family goes along and its a day out. Could that be a factor?

If I could only ride a trial once a month and it be a 4 hour drive I wouldn't bother with the sport. Just shows how good we have it in the UK.On that basis, I can see why there are issues with rider numbers if they only get their fix once a month. It is possible to manage large rider numbers without queing for longer than 10 minutes. I have seen it done succesfully but it is at a cost .. and that is helpers/observers! Good flowing section design. Room between sections to park up. Sections that arent too long and 2 observers to keep it moving with the aim if possible to always have a rider in the section at all times. Easy said but it does work.

Top ride by Sam Haslam. Well done An excellent ride by Ross Danby to beat Alexz too. With Alexz on 4 and Ross on 3 after the first lap, It needed Ross to mess up for Alexz to take advantage but Ross went clean on the second lap of 21 sections whilst Alexz slipped another 2 dabs to go to 6 doubling Ross's score. The organiser’s made the most of the terrain but it was always going to be a close one without the really big stuff to test these lads. Its going to be really exciting watching these two superb riders battling it out this year.

Speaking from the UK, I think that hiding the sport away for the minority is a shame. Putting my club organiser hat on, I wouldn’t mind if 150+ riders turned up to one of our trials every time we had one (as long as the venue could cope of course). When you go to the extent of some clubs in preparing a trial, the last thing I want to see is 40 riders rushing round and finishing in 1.5 hours then off home. The more the merrier I say At a recent trial at South Shrop where 150 riders (unexpected) turned up, the organisers sorted more observers, organised the parking and we were away. There was a small amount of waiting at some sections, but not much. I took the opportunity to have a chat whilst waiting to people I never met before and thoroughly enjoyed it. I’m with you on this one More trials riders = Good More money spent on trials is good money spent IMHO

I didnt keep my 4T for one year so I can only give you my experience of the time I had it. My observations are smilar to yours except with the starting problems and flooding from the carb into the airbox. With the addition of the keihin I found less problematic and easier to ride but in the end, the pure simplicity of a 2T cant be beaten by a 4T (for trials anyway). Saying that though, 4t's do offer a different riding experience and if thats what your looking for, then there great. If I had the characteristics of the 2t but with the 4t power delivery, I would have one of them

As the old saying goes... rules are there to be broken! Simply put, look at what the punters want and give it to them sure fire way to success.

From a commercial point of view, Trials needs Toni Bou. There is a new Buzz about the place and having him at an event is more important than having anyone else (besides Raga) at the moment. Team tactics by GasGas and Toni's performance has made great theatre.We will see Toni contest the whole series I am sure. No organisation in their right minds would miss an opportunity like that surely!

Yes, they will all run in conjunction with our current trials we already have planned. Same with South Shrop as well

Just for those of you youth riders that dont look on the front page, The Midlands centre will be running a Midlands Centre Youth Championship ( all four routes) starting at Nantmawr Quarry on the 5th March. I will post some info when we get it with regs etc being available soon.
