  1. Woody, I'm just getting ready to lower the pegs on mine, and I can't make out from your pic how you did yours. Did you build a "box" off the lower section of the frame, or did you make a bracket, or what? Very tidy bike, by the way!

    Transmission oil

Honda HP Trans oil 80W85 is red. I use it in my 4RT gearbox, and it works fine.
  3. Here's the video of Raga. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGb-bE2HTkc
  4. Here is proof of my point. So someone's opinion on the internet is your "proof"?! Good one! Seems like all those that are opposed to the new and lighter technology in this thread, either ride vintage bikes, or 4RT's! Draw your own conclusions.
  5. Interesting thread! I'm in the exact same position; I've had my 4RT for 6 years now, and it's been great, but my eyes are beginning to wander. My 4RT has held up excellent, and is still in great shape, so I don't ~need~ a new bike, but I do want one. I test rode an Ossa a few weeks ago, and wow, I loved it! Like Will-in-the-mud said, I just can't get it out of my head now. BUT, I tend to keep bikes for 5 or more years, and I'm worried about buying a brand new design, from a brand new company. I'm usually a late adopter, and wait to buy until after most of the bugs have been sorted. I rode a friend's 2012 Sherco, and liked it a lot, but most of my friends have Shercos, so that rules them out. I'd really like to try out an Evo, but haven't had the chance yet. The Evo seems to meet all of my needs, IF I enjoy riding it more than the 4RT.
  6. I like the white one!

    Weak 240 Brakes

I have to admit, I really don't understand the "attitude" in these replies. What was the harm in asking for advice before resorting to trial-and-error? Sure, I could throw parts at it, and maybe get lucky, but I might never have discovered Lee's setup scheme. Anyway, thanks Lee. And to the rest of you:

    Weak 240 Brakes

Thanks for the great reply Lee, that's exactly the kind of info that I was looking for! Edited: deleted my insulting reply to Martin's insulting reply.

    Weak 240 Brakes

I'm going over a 240 that I bought last year, and the last major problem to deal with is weak brakes. The shoes don't look worn at all, but I would guess they're a few decades old. The drums look fine too, with no pitting or visual wear. The front brake cable is lubed, and doesn't seem to stretch more than any other brake cable. Everything looks fine, but both brakes are horrible! I'm not expecting them to work as well as modern disc brakes, but they should be as good as a 199 Sherpa, or 349 Cota, right? So where do I start? I was thinking new brake shoes, but thought I would check with you guys first.
  10. The oil that I was referring to, is from the local Honda motorcycle dealer, and is the same oil specified for the Honda CRF 4-stroke MX gearboxes. It's not intended for girly automatics! I don't have a bottle in front of me, but it's called something like "Honda Performance Transmission Oil", or maybe "Honda Racing...".
  11. Same here. It's easy to get, reasonably priced, and I think the clutch action is fine.
  12. Man, what is up with all the attitude??!!! And from a #@%$ importer no less!!! The guy asked ~why~ is the early pre-entry necessary, and explained why it ~might~ be better if it were shorter. You obviously didn't even consider his point, you just decided to be a *^%$ about it. The answer should have been a simple explanation, which might have helped us lowly "keyboard riders" understand. Maybe Mich wasn't the bad guy after all...

    Cota Year Id

I can't vouch for its accuracy, but I compiled this list from various web sources. 14. Thanks for all the ideas! I took the drain plugs out this weekend, and measured them, and ordered a few dowty type washers from McMaster-Carr. If that doesn't work, I'll try the silicone gasket maker. I'll report back with the results.
  15. Hi All, I'm getting my 1971 Cota 247 ready for the upcoming vintage season, and I've got an oil leak that is driving me crazy. Both the gearbox and clutch drain plugs just refuse to seal (the 2 large flat head screws on the very bottom of the engine). I've tried fiber washers, aluminum washers, and rubber o-rings, with no joy. The fiber and aluminum washers continued to leak, and the o-ring just pushed out from under the head of the screw. The leaks are slow, just a small puddle after a day or two, but with no way to check the level, I have to change the oil before each ride. Any suggestions?
  16. The text was tough to make out...
  17. I had a TLR250 a couple of years ago, and bought this"R&D Prototype" brochure. If you can't read the features and specs of this reduced copy, I can e-mail a higher res scan.
  18. After about 2 years of looking for a plastic tank for my 199, I gave up and bought a fiberglass one from Sammy Miller. It looks much nicer than the photo in their catalog. Their photo shows an ugly white painted C stripe, and a chrome cap, while the tank that I received doesn't have any painted stripes, and has a black cap with embossed Bultaco lettering. The blue is a perfect match. Once I put the decal set on, it will look original enough for me. Overall, I'm really happy with it (and no more leaks at the petcock ).
  19. Hi, I've got a Fantic Pro 300 that gradually lost spark, until it would no longer run. The problem appears to be the flywheel, as the magnets have virtually no 'pull' at all. I give up on finding another flywheel, and now wonder if I can 'fix' the magnets. Anyone have any idea if this is possible, and if so, how I could go about it? Any and all advice appreciated!
