Must be good to ride with your son, good on ya
Try putting a few rocks down to make a tight turn right before the log
-
And to answer your question, yes I think a 1 meter drop will bottom the suspension regardless
They don't have the travel of an MX bike and what little travel they do have needs to be supple for small bump compliance
I put the stiffer springs into my Evo and it still bottoms but its got a great deal less teeter totter effect while using the front brake in a section, that used to really mess my balance up
-
Well from a mechanical perspective it's fixed to its not
The likelyhood of you having a leaking intake AND a second problem with the same symptom is very slim
Something seems fishy
if the bike ran well previously then adjusting the float height is not a repair
Look for cause and effect, changing the effect by adjusting something that is not the cause is not going to work, it just gets you further from the cause by masking the symptom/effect if you know what I mean
-
Check the beta thread sticky for carb setup, but I assume it ran at some point, I wouldn't adjust the float height just yet unless you know someone else messed with it just prior to it developing this issue
Pull the needle and make sure there is no debris blocking fuel flow
Make sure the manifold has no cracks and the gasket surface is normal looking, the bolts are tight
Leaking crank seals would produce some goo on the mag side and would consume transmission oil on the other
I wouldn't worry about jetting, look for something that has changed, not all things that were there when the bike ran properly
-
You can't use the Internet do diagnose a motorcycle
Inevitably it will be you who looks to see if the bike has spark or not
Put a spare plug in your pocket and as soon as the bike dies, pull the cap and insert the new plug and check for spark
If it has spark then move onto fuel problems
-
If indeed it is doing this it's what I call "Hanging up on the pilot jet"
Meaning the pilot circuit is lean, and it will ring ding ding ding at well above idle for a few seconds before dropping down to idle speed
Does it eventually drop to idle?
If so
Low fuel height
Partially blocked pilot jet
Air leak at intake
Leaking crank seals
So it would start with a proper carb service, I see the intake manifold clamp is not on straight, it may indicate that this has been apart recently?
Yes the red arrow is idle speed, the other is air screw, start at 2 turns out

I can't believe no one else put their finger on what is clearly the issue
Personally I have an incredible knack for the obvious
It's the Beer dude.......it's the Beer...
-
Ya I was going to say the water trick would work for plastic but not metal
It takes 450 - 500 F to temper steel
-
Ahhhhhhhh, there's what I was looking for
I am of the belief that you cannot manage what you cannot measure, soap or soot huh
That's good old school stuff there
-
Maybe it just needs to be pulled apart and lubed
If its hard to turn by finger, maybe it's all it needs
-
I have heard it worded like this "Light, strong, inexpensive, you can pick 2 but can't have all 3"
-
I don't know about the heat thing, I'm sure it works but there is likely a proper temperature that helps
I just put it in a vice and smack it, shock is the way
And you only get one of them, it's weaker after this
-
Interesting subject in spite of the fact that its a bit off track
So hey, maybe lets reword the question
Does trials need to get back a generation that has stopped riding or does it need to work to appeal to the new guys who don't ride now or who's parents used to ride
Do we need a bike that appeals to the tuner car generation?, the texter, the Xbox guy, skateboarder and snowboarder with their pants at their knees
These are the new guys, called echo boomers and beyond it's me and its my kid
I don't want a reto bike or something that looks or feels old, my kid can't relate to it either
They want their own identity, personally I think the future for them is electric, downloadable maps, YouTube and Facebook integration, sounds weird but it's us that are the dinosaurs
The bike that appeals to the new gen likely wont appeal to us, are the paying customer part of the problem?
-
It probably pukes gas out the overflow like every good Rev 3 does, especially on downhills
Maybe it's coming from the overflow tubes
-
Huh, I dunno man, I would get a new one, sounds like its probably been smacked and broken
It might start leaking
-
Curious though
What do you mean by missing, is the nipple just broken off?
-
It's not very likely you have liquid fuel blowing out of your exhaust, I'm sure it would foul a plug and run poorly
A vast majority of what comes out of a muffler is water, especially during warmup
When full hot it is super heated vapour so you don't really notice it
Coolant consumption usually stinks like coolant and is more likely to get combustion debris into the coolant than leak coolant into the high compression area of the combustion chamber
So, not sure what's on your rear wheel, but maybe 2 stroke oil like Dad says
What does it taste like ?
-
I think Rossi started the leg out thing and I don't know why
My guess is to make the package wider and keep a guy from moving up the inside and passing
And these people who keep their feet out while riding away from a stoplight drive me nuts, makes me think they don't know what they are doing

Resistors do 2 things
One is RF interference and the other is to produce a spark that is shorter in duration and more intense
Resistors are good things
-
One a plug fouls it has a permanent carbon track on the porcelain
When the resistance becomes high (under compression) it can ground through the carbon track
So even a gap tester will show the unit has spark
-
Canadians are exceptional trials riders
It's just that we are so polite we let everyone else have the glory
"Hey guys, sorry for that, il just put an apologetic foot down"
-
I find my front to be more sensitive, traction always seems good but if I go below 6lbs I really bang the rim a lot, at 6 it only happens about once per ride
Been as low as 3 lbs on the rear for snow days but stay at 4 in summer
-
Well said, in other words "I have no idea what you are talking about" LOL
-
This industry is interesting because it advances, baby steps but it advances
Take your idea and apply it to car racing and see how it fits
Drum brakes
Carburettors
Get rid of power steering
No electronic ignition, get points and distributors back
Ya, nope, not for me
Progress is what makes my world go round
Now, if manufacturers were to add retro twin shock models at bargain prices and promoters make classes for them then maybe there's a germ of an idea that could bring back grass roots competitors
How about a brand new 1979 Bultaco or a Fantic for half the price of a new Beta or Gas Gas
