Wow, that's a BFR
Great pic, thanks for sharing
-
Probably only a 4 stroke could do that
Every second rotation of the engine is a cooling stroke where a 2 stroke doesn't get a break
Did they measure the piston to cylinder clearance and mike the bore for out of round?
-
So I'm not sure what I'm seeing there, is the entire impeller missing or just the blades and the base is left behind?
Hard to believe it was just running hot with no real coolant circulation huh
-
Well maybe even he would do it a bit differently were he to pull that hill again but when an awesome guy does something awesome, I'm not going to say he's wrong
He sure did rev the bark off it though huh

Riding buddy Outlaw Dave rides a new 200 and the thing is outstanding
I don't think it is at any disadvantage
-
Agreed, spray WD 40 on a balloon and leave it overnight, see what it looks like tomorrow
-
Well, I seriously doubt you would have better luck with dare I say.......a Gas Gas for example
It is 5 years old and storage is as hard on mechanical equipment as usage sometimes
The steering head for example likely would never wear out with proper maintenance, same with shock brgs
stator and main begs are a known issue but I have never had to rebuild mine so it's not every bike with this problem
Can't really rule out defect or incorrect installation of your main bearings/crank seals
Personally I think you are being a bit hard on the brand, these things are not Japanese, they all have their own issues, you could be on your second transmission job by now if it were a different bike
Hope you resolve the crank seal issue and can enjoy your bike
-
+1 on the no oil thing, it's a bad idea and may be the cause of your problems
-
I wouldn't jump to conclusions, manufacturers don't tune engines to respond to rapid throttle openings with no load
The is no application for this
If the bike responds well when riding it in gear I would quit looking for problems
A lot of bikes, particularly four strokes don't do well at this, again, no reason
If they were tuned for instant throttle response with no load there would likely be a problem with it when there is load
Japanese engineers I have worked with say "No Meaning" about issues like this
-
But lets not overlook the fact that it puts a cool looking anodized spacer on your water pump
That alone is reason enough to put a costa kit on
-
Wonder if anyone knows if you can mix ATF and gear oil together
-
Well I would suggest that the bike is the authority on the subject
If its not blowing coolant then it's not overheating
Sounds like its about its max operating temp but it would not surprise me if they all run at that temp frequently
-
Maybe your ride height in the rear is too high?
Before I put stiffer springs in my bike I had cranked up the rear preload and the front was washing out
-
Try a Yamaha marine dealer for a product called "Ring Free"
Incredible how it decarbons a motor, if you still detonate
Then it was not carbon buildup
My Evo will detonate at mid to high rpm with small throttle opening
I think this is TMDT
(These machines do that)
-
Quite thorough
Question: Did you measure the total movement of the pressure plate (curious if our bikes are consistent)
And did you measure for the correct shim as per Beta's service manual
As for consistency maybe change the hydraulic fluid, contamination/slight bit of water may cause some excess fluid expansion
Would change the disengagement point when extremely hot
I also wonder if less oil capacity would result in less dipping of the clutch and less oil on the plates
And I wonder if 90 degrees on the friction plate pad edge is right, maybe 45 would give the oil a little ramp angle (this is a measurable effect in engines)

Well my friend, over here we have lots of high altitude snowmobiling, no one ever goes these place until winter as they are pretty much innacessable any other time, motorized vehicles are illegal in many places due to the sensitivity of the land (short growing season) and I respect that
Lots of Sierra club, Rocky mountain corridor foundation etc etc etc bull**** tree hugger groups with lots of member and lots of money want absolutely no one in these places ever ever
So they use Caribou as the bullet, they winter in alpine terrain in deep snow believe it or not
Many places have been closed completely and many many more are dealing with endless politics on the subject, nothing is ever final, a new minister every few years and it all just starts over again
I don't think it has anything to do with the excuse they use, it's just the one that works and it's very frustrating
-
A crank seal could simply cause a lack of 'Signal Strength" that's the amount of vacuum that creates the Venturi effect
If its low it can make it lean just because it won't suck hard enough at low rpm, not because you have carb problems and not because the extra air ingested cause a lean condition
Usually the bike would be hard starting if crank seals were leaking as it just can't pull fuel through the carb
-
You may be over analyzing the carb issue, there's no real maintenance, you may adjust the air screw once or twice but really it's a few seconds with a screwdriver
With regard to cleaning a carb, if you get bad fuel it's much harder to get it out of an EFI bike
I am not fond of anything Honda, the bike hasn't really changed in like 8 years or something, it's good but it's not so outstanding that it makes other brands look bad
Had a couple of Beta's and other than normal stuff like fork seals and wheel bearings they have been great and very fun to ride
-
Oh, don't forget to remove the front wheel
(K, I was just jokin there)
-
Yes it's real important to practice your turns, if you can turn your bike exactly where you want to it makes everything else easier
-
I agree, especially coming off a log LOL
It's an odd crash as he doesn't have a finger on the brake but one on the clutch
-
Actually my Techno does it worse than my Evo
I don't start it without boots, and the kick lever sucks too
-
Just curious, what was it that caught the tire and locked the steering?
Was there a rock there
-
Anyone who sacrifices themselves and demonstrates a textbook tuck and endo for the camera deserves a good pat on the back, much respect
Oh and good camera work there man
-
LOL Cope
Our pain point is about 48c
No where near the operating temp of an engine so our flesh is a very poor judge of hot/cold
