Most 2 strokes don't have a rev limiter
If it did have one it would produce an ignition misfire which would then cause an after fire in the muffler
Very hard to miss
It's probably a characteristic of the pipe design and the ignition timing, in a way, it is a rev limiter but that's how they do it on pretty much all 2 strokes

Well I have good news and bad news
Good news is, it's not too late to become addicted to trials, you will love the bikes, the riding and the people, it's a great sport for an older more patient rider
Bad news, Suzuki PE's never rocked
It's hard to go wrong with one of the big 3, Beta, Gas Gas and Sherco, parts, service, advice, resale value etc are all the reasons, I'm a Beta guy and they have been friendly and reliable for me, Rev 3 is a great bike
If I were you I would find some riders to befriend, they will likely be able to steer you toward something that fits your needs, these will be the same guys you will need to go to for advice, dealers to avoid or frequent, set up and riding tips etc
Sounds like Nickytricks is in your neighborhood
Welcome back

Huh, crank bearings toast
Well using one base gasket does two things, increases the compression by not only moving the head closer to the piston but also closing the exhaust port earlier
Lowering the exhaust port would affect power on its own, maybe will have more bottom and midrange this way regardless of engine work
-
LOL, Daft is OK, just checkin
-
Anyone watch the fights tonight?
I never got to see it but read the blow by blow, sounds like the good guy won
-
LOL, I have never seen a cooling system failure on an air cooled bike, maybe you are onto something
Watch, "New for 2014, AIR Cooling!!!!"
Can Am used to call it "Rad Free"
-
Hi Dan
What do you mean by 2 shaft and 3 shaft?
Pretty much every trans has a main shaft and countershaft, I have never seen anything with 3 shafts
But most of my experience is Japanese bikes
-
That's a very unusual place for a crack to occur, doesn't look to be related to stress from riding
It may have happened when the bearing was pressed into it so I would make sure your interference fit is right
I had a cracked swingarm welded a long time ago and the crack came right back, I think you need to completely remove the crack or at least make sure the material is completely fused inside and out
Probably need to talk to someone who is more than just a welder
-
Why don't you try checking continuity to ground averywhere you are supposed to
It all should have extremely low resistance to the engine cases
You can test to see if the coil has contact to the frame and if the engine has good contact with the frame etc
Your meter can answer a lot of questions
And don't forget to test the kill switch
-
Holy crap, Was I married to you once?
The only person I ever met who could turn it all around like that my ex
K I will make it simple
I do not agree with PED's
I do believe that Lance Armstrong is a cheater
What i dont understand is why one person seems to be bearing the entire load on his shoulders
In terms of cause and effect, the Athelete is the effect, if you remove him, the cause still remains
Some of you seem to think that if you find one person and blame him the problem is solved
Random test everyone or skip it entirely, it's a yes or no question
Anyway, I'm done here, flame on I won't be back to read it
-
Good to know, going to try and find some Nano
I can't get my head around ATF, it may relate well to the clutch as car trans are similar but my problem is gear selection, Japan makes a drastically superior transmission and I dream of that kind of shifting
I should be able to confidently shift in a section and find neutral easily
Why do Italian bikes suck at this........, its not 1969 any more LOL
-
My position on this was clearly misunderstood, and please don't insult either Steve or myself fathering skills and by the way, Steve is a multi time national trials champ in his own right and probably only used beer to enhance his performance
For the record, I think Armstrong is a cheater, But........
I would bet my house that the top 20 Tour de France riders were all on PED's, if you place 8th no body really cares if you are tested and you don't make the news if you are caught
Some comments here make me think people believe if we delete Lance from the record book then Justice is served and the problem is solved, Really?
Look at other sports, MMA and boxing athletes, big problems there, past Baseball world records are a joke, I guarantee football players are looking for a bit of an edge
And if you think a guy like Ryan Villipoto or Valentino Rossi doesn't take a little sumthin once in a while to recover from injury you are wearing blinders
What if Tony Bou tweaks his knee a month away from the start of the indoor season, you think a guy with millions of dollars of pressure on him would take the high road, miss a couple rounds, tell Mr Honda he wants to heal naturally and toss the championship...... or would he take a needle or two quietly in the back room
These sports are big business they are not friendly, honorable competition, employees do what ever they can to satisfy their supervisors or massage their ego, that's reality, NOT my personal moral values
We can't just find one single scapegoat and burn him at the stake, thats what got us where we are now. everyone needs to be tested or leave everyone alone, if you want an example of good drug testing look at the oil and gas industry, how come an oil rig worker is more afraid of testing than a pro athlete ? Hmmmmm.......

I think some of this is like watching a magic show
The fuel companies have everyone talking about the rule of no more than 10% ethanol
But there is a whole lot of other crap in there that they don't have to tell us about because fuel is a "Proprietary Blend"
So while we are all concerned about what the left hand is doing its really the stuff in the right hand we should be watching
I don't know what issues you have in the UK but in canada there have been a host of other things go on that have had a much worse effect on a 2 stroke engine, they get discovered (usually by the warranty department of a manufacturer), the problem disappears, then a few years later it comes back
I think ethanol is the least of our worries but if we are buying chemicals (it's gotta be at least 20% or more of what we buy), the TRUE reason is profitability for the fuel company, trust me its not for love of the environment, our fuel prices should drop, not go up

Hey Pindie, did nano trans improve shifting?
-
Don't forget, the clutch pack combined may move this amount, but its divided by 5 plates
.040 = 1mm divide by 5 is .007 or .2mm per plate
It's even more complicated than that, the clearance is divided over 10 surfaces (each plate has 2 sides) but that makes my brain hurt LOL
They don't slide so much as just run zero clearance when disengaged, kinda like the reverse of a brake
Anyway, polishing this spot can't hurt, I just can't see it changing anything if the moment is immeasurable
-
Couple things
The diagnosis you mentioned really has no meaning to wether or not your clutch plates are good or bad
It may or may not mean your clutch is dragging badly but due to the nature of the drive train, every bike may act in a similar way
When a clutch is at the end of its life it will slip, NOT drag
It would appear when climbing a steep hill in a high gear, not when coming down in low gear
I doubt your plates are worn out but the only way to tell is visual inspection and thickness measurement
You won't need a gasket, it has an o ring on the outer cover
As for the mod, there is no need to polish the finger sides as the plates don't really slide back and forth, fully disengaged the pressure plate will only move about .030 to .040 of an inch, they are not a sliding surface, but a load bearing surface, just remove the glue and gorp buildup from between the fiber plate pads
-
Check around for a "Boot" repair patch that they use for ATV tires
You don't want thick and heavy, you want soft and supple and have it vulcanized to the tire
-
Maybe everyone could add what they were trying to improve with their oil choice, shifting or clutch action
I think that many trials bikes have a clutch drag issue causing hard shifting
Oil can have an effect on how much drag it has but it's still a clutch issue, I have never been a fan of fixing a problem by changing something distantly related
(Pre clutch mod) I tried 0w30 semi synthetic 4 stroke motor oils (expensive) down to any old crap I had in the cabinet with no great results
(Post Beta fix) now i have Optimol in there and shifting is much improved and much less oil sensitive
-
LOL, I have done a lot of mountain snowmobiling and seen some truly awesome "Ghost rider" events, sometimes the best way is to park behind a group of other people and use them as a shield
-
Zippy has good advice there, ride and diagnose
On one other point, the crank case won't pressurize the gearbox, it would vacuum it due to the nature of the system
Also, contaminated oils do have a greater tendency to foam, is this the first time you used this brand?
Was your last ride a high speed road section maybe? That can move oil into the breather and then it will kind of syphon
You could put an air hose in the filler and GENTLY move air through to clear out the breather
-
Unless its been under maintained air filter wise the motor will last and last, try a wet and dry comp test if you want and also pop the head pipe and look at the piston skirt
Probably unless its a real high miler there's nothing much to do in there
-
Bummer, rule #6, never park in the run out zone
Better than breaking rule #5, (never turn your back on a bike)
I'm guessing it wasn't the camera mans bike huh
-
Is there more to the story?
Have you done anything to the brake prior to this or did this happen just out of the blue
If you have a bubble in the master it can be hard to move
-
I would stick with the game plan, if you had a crank seal leak it would have no effect on fuel consumption
A bad leak would make the bike hard to start, consume trans oil and the bike may run lean as you lose primary compression
A lot of what comes out of your silencer (particularly when cold) is water vapor, it's easy to mistake it for smoke
Why an Irridium plug?, I can tell you from experience that not every ignition system likes those plugs
If a bike comes stock with it, it's because the system was designed around it (hence "system")
It won't improve a bike
Is it possible that your choke plunger is not closing completely because of debris?
If your bike is using double to triple the fuel as your buddies then the exhaust will have a lot of unburned hydrocarbons in it that will burn off when the exhaust comes up to high temp like on a long hill climb
-
I hear that Ryan young teaches that both ends do not have to react when pushing the centre
He says you set each end up by feel independently of each other
And as for sag, that's for high speed over holes to keep the tire hooked up, doesn't really apply to trials
