I like the chest mount, not the helmet mount
-
Well Ring ding ding is very trials centric, the old timers would not stand for anything else
How do you feel about Voopah Voopah, I kinda like that LOL
I read a while ago about a battery technology that used propane or butane, battery dies, you get your little can of butane out and give it a shot, maybe that's where we are headed
I find it interesting to see what young people are into, in 25 years middle age guys will be talking about how great their turbocharged Honda civic or Subaru was, not GTO's or Mustang's
people will be calling R6's and GSXR's classics, there's a generation that will never ride a 2 stroke
Classic rock will be Iron maiden, Van Halen and Judas Priest (I'm that guy, Jimmy Hendrix? Really??)
The future is a strange and mysterious place where at some point some people will have never ridden an internal combustion engine bike

Ok......now that you got the nerdy stuff over with...
I think all Schmorgas wanted to know is, Can he change the oil on this theoretical machine
What I want to know is, does it go vroom vroom or ring ding ding
-
It's possible but not probable
-
I think the feedstock thing means they harvest cow poop
But then again, I know little about bio fuel
-
Ya that's great to watch, between the Jason Finn vids and this one we got some good stuff
Keep em comin
-
Wow, every one of those vids is good
Thanks

Ya I don't really get the which burns hotter thing, it's meaningless
It's kinda like saying an elephant is bigger than a tiger so it must be more dangerous
Actually a car tire burns hotter than oil or gas so maybe put that in your bike
If our oils were designed to be burned to create power, they would be completely different, and not to mention, the engine would be very different as well, like maybe a turbine?
our oils are designed to be added to fuel to lube the engine, NOT to make power all by itself
Any way, back to our regularly scheduled program, the best power is with the correct ratio for the intended usage
High RPM, or extreme loads require more oil, low RPM moderate loads like what we do won't be able to use the oil and it will build up so we are back to the question
Some bikes and some riders will need more oil, some will not, look at like this, put an entry level rider on Adam Raga's bike and it might foul the plug or ooze goop out the silencer tip
Climb a long steep hill and see if you bike is puking clouds of smoke, that will tell you if you are using your oil up or just plugging up your exhaust with it
I don't think there is a definitive answer to this unless you have what the engineers use, that is a spark plug that measures combustion temperature, even then, oil ratio will be different for conditions, riders and brands of oil

I doubt it is left hand thread, Usually that is done for safety purposes on things that can rotate during usage
My Betas have a nut on the back side not threaded into the master
-
The 07 had fat bars, why not just fit a top triple clamp from a newer year
-
I stay away from cotton all together
It won't wick moisture it just absorbs it and stays wet
There are moisture wicking socks but I think they are more for warm weather hiking and dry feet than cold temps
I have at least 5 different kinds of moisture wicking socks and found the thinner the better but in the end one pair of good quality socks works better
Again this was for snowmobiling and there is nothing sweatier than mountain sledding
-
LOL, I have a 96 and it had the same 2 problems
I was able to find a spare needle from outlaw Dave and make the carb stop dribbling fuel, clean the seat with toothpaste and a Q tip
I have endless hours into the rear brake and finally after replacing the master have pressure and no fluid leaks but I don't know if it stops or not
-
I have a pair of Klim socks that seem to work great, they are made for boots and are knee high
I have done a lot of snowmobiling and found that 2 pairs of socks just doesn't work, ( and I get cold feet and hands fast)
Klim based their company on snowmobile gear and all of their clothing is the absolute best, check em out

Resurrecting an old thread I found, any one have anything to say about pipes for Evo 290?
-
Oh hey, those Fox pads look nice, that's Mtn bike stuff I guess
Curious if they are hot to wear
-
Thanks for sharing
The audio is great, listening to some of the old 4 strokes is interesting
-
After doing this on an Echo trials bicycle I find it helps to not only pull the bike over but you kind of push off the front tire
Another thing is practice just stopping and balancing momentarily with the front tire straight, kinda gives you a better chance to set up

I would love to ride that place, should call it Awesome World

Sadly manufacturers look simply at a business plan, they would look at getting a reasonable market share in the category in question and then calculate an R&D budget, to see if it would be profitable in the time frame they decide upon
With the worldwide numbers of trials bike sales, a big company like Yamaha would not invest in it, lets just say they want 25% market share (which is aiming high) the number is just not big enough to be profitable when you consider millions of $ in R&D costs
It's not a market that is poorly represented by brands so consider that as soon as you introduce a new idea like an entry level model, and lets just say it was successful, then Beta, Gas Gas, Montesa and Sherco would all jump in for their piece of the pie, so profitability would be short lived
I would say that the Japanese would probably not be interested but the existing trials brands should definitely look at developing a simple and inexpensive entry level 200cc bike and try to market it as Retro to appeal to Grandpa who used to ride, he buys 2 so he can put his Grandkids on them
One thing is certain, all of the brands are competing for the same customer, top of the line only
-
One of the biggest issues a manufacturer faces is patent infringement, really hinders development
The trick new thing you want to see might be used on some lawn tractor or something and the manufacturer either needs to pay the patent holder or do something different
The game that companies like Honda plays is that they let some brands infringe on their patents, then a couple of years down the road they can threaten and control things through potentialy very expensive legal action
Honda makes Billions every year licensing things they will never use to other manufacturers
Sucks huh, so next time you look at your bike and say "why did they do that?".....it's probably because they had to, not cuz they wanted to
-
Really?, would anyone buy that thing based on that photo LOL
Pretty sure I could whip up something better myself
-
I had one on my 270 and noticed a difference in low end response, fit was good and it added a cool sounding snap but it was not louder
-
You might be over thinking the bike choice
I started trials about 1.5 years ago after 30 years of riding everything with and without wheels so I'm in the same boots you are
You will need to do 2 things
1) Unlearn all kinds of bad habits like "Seat of the pants" riding
2) Learn the art of trials, technique is paramount, balance is your new friend, you will be very intimate with your clutch
Smaller displacement bikes are the same size and weight, they just have less power
If you have substantial riding experience power will not overwhelm you, but having said that, big power is really not that important
Unless you are 140lbs I really don't think a small bike is an advantage
