  1. I agree with johnnyboxer. Send evidence of damaged landscape from ramblers stomping about in their fascist jackboots. There's now unsightly man made footpaths over the Cheviot hills, put there at public expense, to stop them getting mud on their boots after they chewed the scenery up with thoughtless overuse. Grrr
  2. So, getting your leg over = owning a Beta 4 stroke, sounds like a double win. I think the evo frame changed for more petrol capacity in 2014. I would get the newest model, unless its a wreck.
  3. This may be of interest to Ossa riders too, as some have the battery boost start attached to the light so numbers need to be taped to the headlight.
  4. I used to get cold fingers from clutch/brake levers riding in snow and ice on the enduro bike. A few spiralwraps of electrical insulation tape around each lever stopped the metal soaking the heat out of my damp gloved hands. You get a bonus with a bit grip on the levers from the ridges of the overlapping tape and also some insulation tape for use when needed. Seems to work on the old trials iron too.
  5. Yep, I think its a proven concept, Husqvarna, KTM and others did this on enduro bikes till recently. In an ideal world riders would turn their engines off while queueing, doing everyone and themselves a favour.
  6. Mine was fine with standard gearing and QA throttle. I also tried a flywheel weight ftom a 250, but it made the response too sleepy.

    4Rt Quality ?

Quality of mine was no better than other manufacturers. Same goes for other road, off road Honda's iv'e owned, all of which's fasteners were made of cheese and would bend/twist or round their heads when using correct metric tools, better off using a tight fitting imperial if possible. I no longer believe the hype and think they are over-rated.
  8. Only thing I can add is that I stuff a wine bottle cork in the exhaust to keep the packing dry. But caution is needed, as not removing it before starting the engine can cause blown crank seals or a broken window.
  9. I used to get tennis elbow when I first started and was riding a Beta. I changed to a Sherco and co-incidently the pain stopped. I'm not blaming the Beta as it did not cross my mind to try different bars/lever positions, but it may be worth trying on your bike. A few years later the condition returned after my job got more physical, the company I worked for arranged physiotherapy which achieved a marginal improvement. Eventualy I was given a cortazone (check spelling) injection which was a success and have had no pain for 8 years.
  10. Tremendous, of special note is the synchronised pointing. We need a point system for pointing.
  11. As earlier, my 2010 EVO 250 was a good one. Usual Beta problem of clutch drag and glass mudguards.
  12. Owned 09, 10, 11 + 12 models of Beta. No problems, 09's cracked frames but mine was and still is ok, I heard that it was Betas being pushed to the limits in the hands of expert riders that suffered the frame failures. No noticeable difference in engine performance between the 09, 10 +11 250's. The 12 was a 200 (prefered the 250's though). I rode a 2007 Beta 250 REV3 back to back against my 2010 EVO and did not think the EVO was a significant improvement, a bit better, but not night and day difference. I would not hesitate to by a REV3 if the price/condition was better than an EVO, but try before you buy any make.
  13. Call NASA, they may be interested in your bikes space travel capability.
  14. Hopefully the crank seals are fitted the correct way round. As mentioned, there is a small hole driiled through the clutch retaining countersunk allen bolt, ensure it is not blocked. Recently the same bolt became loose on my bike and caused no problems other than the clutch lever to intermittently lock solid half way through its stroke.
  15. I added some honda info on your previous Beta question.
  16. Had 4 evo's from new. One blew a shock absorber (warranty), all of them had glass mudguards which shattered by looking at them ( £80+ rear, £40+ front). Apart from that no problems, a good tool with a good back up by the importer. My one Montesa 4rt was a pain to service and worryingly for a 4 stroke, would get water in the air box, the bash plate was weak and the clutch dragged, I think i expected better fom the, so called, mighty Honda. At present and last year I am on gas gas with my fingers crossed.
  17. Owned 4 evos from new, 1 year each. Delivered with quality chains whuch easily saw a year out used every weekend. 2010 model shock blew and was replaced without question by lampkins. I was going to return to beta this year depending on if they had fixed the only problem i had with every one of them, the expensive glass mudguards. They haven't, so my money goes elswhere. Though they are one of the cheapest makes available fitted with an aged yet proven engine.
  18. Past attempts at bump sarting trials bikes have involved mighty steep hills and 3rd gear. Trials bikes are not the easiest to bump start, high compression, low gearing and no weight on the back wheel are the culprits. Check its not flooded with fuel, take plug out and crank the engine by hand while looking at the plug hole in the head. If you see a fair bit of vapour its flooded. Turn bike upside down, put it in 1st and spin the back wheel till the vapour stops coming from the plug hole. Put bike upright with a new plug in or dry yours out. Do your normal cold starting procedure.
  19. The engine looks different to the one my mate has from a few years back.
  20. Treeemendous. Thanks for that.
  21. I read that filling engine cooling systems with pure anti freeze does not cool the engine as efficiently as using 50/50 anti freeze/water mix. A slow actiom throttle will fit on, but you will lose the light feel as the new tube will not have the outer support stub. I used the original quick action type, but reduced the diameter of the throttle tube cable guide over 1/2 of its circumference, which gives slow action up till 1/2 throttle.
  22. Does your bike not have the original additional flywheel weight fitted, retained by 2 large philips screws?
  23. Gas Gas pro engine set a new benchmark in weight and compact design when launched, which other recent manufacturers seem to have mimicked to a degree. But the Gas Gas engine/gearbox is prone to failure possibly by shaving so close to the limit of material strength.
  24. Hello my Gas Gas 250 Racing has a slow action throttle, flywheel weight and standard gearing. Riding mud or slippy rocks I use 2nd gear and this works for me but I am bottom end finisher clubman. When I first got the bike I tried what most others advised and fitted front a sprocket with a tooth less, I couldn't get the hang of it though. I like the flywheel but this may be as I was riding Betas before. I had an 05 scorpa sy 250 but the suspension was dreadfull and the carburation was poor, otherwise it was a good tool.
  25. Ta for the advice Ask Greeves. I should have been more specific on the size of plate which will be a maximum of 1/4" x 1" flat bar. This would be the largest used for fabrication/repair of motorcycle or van parts. Also, in the past I have had access to oxy/gas for use with my exhaust blow out kit. I recently tried to repair a damaged expansion chamber using my butane torch which didnt even make the steel sweat. Please excuse my use of imperial measurements. This is due to my (poor) education at the time of the metric changeover, hence my vocabulary in metrinch. Its always mph, never kph, but degrees C° not degrees F°, its the goverments fault you know.
