  1. Some spares are difficult but lots of the engine parts are common with the watercooled engines up to the pro. Lots of GT/ JT / JTR / JTX stuff on ebay. You can fit modern wheels and brake calipers
  2. yes just enter gas gas and search under motorcycle category
  3. Im rebuilding a 327 at the moment. There is a 250 on ebay at the moment
  4. Where was the Beta ignition system made that kept failing on the rev 3 and early Evos ? You know the one that meant I rode round the 2003 SSDT with a complete stator plate and fitting kit suppled by Lampkins in my rucksack. 2010 SSDT Dougie breaks down Monday as ignition system fails. Same happened to him in the Scott and I think James Dabill won on Gas Gas Pro. Why Beta didnt fit a contact breaker system is beyond me. Sherco main bearings on early models where of such quality they would fail in weeks. So back to the same point all the bikes have issues. Most of this thread has been of little use to the person who originally asked the question.
  5. Post number 1. Is it me or did the poster not actually ask for a review of a gas gas childs motorcycle ?
  6. Modern technology is so unreliable. Stick to postal system.
  7. Woody is correct Michaud won the SSDT on the 300 Twinshock fantic in 84. In 85 he won the SSDT and WTC on the 301 prototype Monoshock. As far as I know he never rode the 240 in competition

Dadof2 will be along in a minute no doubt to explain 9 of his mates have had electric water pumps fail on some vehicle or other and what you really need is a 4RT with rigid forks and solid tyres.
  9. Id take the left cap out first as this leg has compression damping adjuster. The cap does just unscrew on both sides.
  10. The £5 for a spring isnt the issue, its when the broken bit gets picked up by the clutch basket / primary gear, that will be more than a fiver. We all have our views but the above wouldn't stop me buying another sherco they are a good bike. All im trying to point out is that none of them are actually bullet proof and people could be a bit more objective when someone is asking for advice.
  11. Take a look at ALL of the bike specific forums. None are empty.
  12. I have had 3 shercos. 2007, 2011 and 2012. All of them broke at least one gear change return spring. Betas I have had were ok except those small bonded bushes used for the radiator and exhaust which broke every few weeks. In 6 gas gas pros I have had one gearbox that didn't change 5th to 4th very well from new. It was replaced foc under warranty. Montesas for all there advantageous weight are not without fault. Three people I know have broken the frame where the footrest bolts on. Early models broke the kickstart stop from the crankcase. Id buy what you like riding as all bikes have their issues

But your "test" just proves, assuming you win, that you are a better rider. It doesn't prove the yam is better or equal. As somebody who owns a 2014 gasser and a 91 yam I can tell you I can clean sections on the GG I cant clean on the yam. Neither bike is a vertigo so lets get back to the topic.

Leg over I recently re built one utterly fantastic in your memory, good but not quite the same if you have just stepped off a 2014 280 GG.
  16. Dabster is entirely correct however to point out that the rules are not our biggest problem.
  17. The rules aspect has to be black and white but at the same time it can't be whatever rules are applied. The french system will now permit reversing I believe ? Is this just when feet up or can you do this with your foot down ? Both have been tried before. I still like the idea of guidance or rules for the layout of the section as much of the difficulties I see at local trials are around non stop trials with sections that cannot be ridden no stop.
  18. I look forward to seeing a rapid increase in entries from all over the world as the young people disillusioned by the dinosaurs and their no stop rules return in their thousands to spend £6000 on a bike. Observers will return to the sport in pairs, one of each pair carrying a stop watch and a whistle. All will be well again as before no stop everything was perfect.
  19. Seals spring down but dust caps I think have springs on the top.
  20. Take m cyl cap off turn bars so left side is high. Back the adjuster right off then just keep pumping the lever. Any air will bubble into the cylinder. Clutches are actually easier to bleed than brakes. If this doesn't work check for leaks. A 2007 should be mineral not dot 4. The seal in the slave cylinder is actually teflon coated and will work with either. But at the lever end if the rubber and cap are green it must be mineral. If its black cap and rubber then it must be dot 4.
  21. First trial age 12 on a ty80. It was a single route back then (34 years ago). I got through one section, in the results I got through two as one of the observers felt sorry for me. Id been riding since I was 10. It took another couple of years to clean a section in single route trials. At 16 things started to click. At 17 I rode the ssdt and have done all kinds of trials since and im still addicted. Trials is hard to learn and in someways even harder to teach. Just keep at it, practice is everything but you need to ride with someone better than you now to help you learn.
  22. I dont think that will work then its more about throttle control and riding stance
