  1. Is this where the funding from the shelved four stroke project went??? If my memory services me right a gas gas importer in europe created a similar bike not to long ago. Is this the same bike or a gas gas prototype? Strange way to release information about it through Redbull, if it is indeed the future of GasGas.
  2. Thanks for clearing that up guys. Looks like the only option is to do Direct Access then. On te bright side be better to do it while i am in my twenties so I do not need to bother when I have a mid life crisis and buy a R1 or another Motogp/WSB derived superbike
  3. Hey Guys I am considering riding a few road events this year but currently do not have a bike license. Simple question really can I ride my mont on a CBT or will I need to do a Direct access. Hopefully its not the latter as its bloody expensive. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Scott

    Blisters

Has a look in my kit bag and found out that mine are Risk racing. Provides good overall protection for the palms but do not restrict movement. Highly recommended.

    Blisters

Try palm savers. Have been using them for years when racing enduro and h&h. Never had any problems with them. Cant remember make of mine atm but will check when i go out to the garage.
  6. Msport is definitely worth a try. I have had a few dealing with them and always found them very helpful. Ebay seems the best place to buy 2nd hand PTB and cables. But it seems that recently the demand has forced the price up in particular the cables. I saw a set go for around
  7. It is rare but some people do acquire stolen bikes and turn up at trails events. I saw it happen at an event a couple of years ago. The real owner was their riding his replacement bike and someone came over saying that he thought he had seen the stolen bike in the paddock. After much arguing and phone calls the the plod the guy who had "purchase" the bike ended up just handing the bike over. He was boosting that he bought this two year old bike for under
  8. No this is not a topic about your favourite vid you picked up in Amsterdam all those years ago. Basically I want to tune up my technique a little bit. Actually a lot! I have been trying to find Ryan Youngs DVD but there seems to be no stock in the UK or on ebay. Anyone have an idea where I can get one from?? I have come across Dan Thorpe Basic Trial Techniques DVD but is it any good? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks
  9. Thanks for the ideas. I had a particularly bad one yesterday. Should have gone round in a clean as there was only one section with a really tricky section. I think I will need to take a step back and play around on the patio a bit just to dial in my throttle and clutch control. It seemed I lost marks due to over complicating things with the clutch. I think part of the problem is building back my confidence. At the moment I can't seem to ride on the bike week to week. Either life commitments or no events being on anywhere near us is holding me back on practise time. It does not help jumping between my enduro bike and the trails bike. The more I look at myself it may be down to me technique not being quite perfect therefore making me feel that I need these "safety dabs". Anyways who knows. Maybe I am just a rubbish rider
  10. Thanks for the input guys. It maybe down to concentration but it is not like I am thinking about work or the mrs when I am riding. But I am sure that may play a part. As far as fitness I would class myself as very bike fit as i ride every weekend and cycle to work everyday. I also look after myself and try to stay hydrated in the days leading up to an event. But again you can never rule it out. Any further ideas would be much appreciated.
  11. Hey Guys I am after a bit of advice on how to stop soft dabs. Recently I have been ruining good results due to silly dabs that even C riders would never do. When it comes to hard sections with big steps or really nasty rock section I can clean it confidently but then the next section I will drop a silly couple of dabs in a easy section. I never seem to drop them because I am struggling it seems more of an safety dab that in reality I should not need. Can anyone give me some advice or ideas how I can get over this. Thanks
  12. Hey Guys Just going to reignite the topic a bit. I find that the techniques work very well for two strokes. I can hop my mates gasgas with ease but i really struggle to hop the rear wheel on my 4rt. Can anyone recommend a technique that may work? I can load and move the front with ease but the back does not want to budge. Seems like the sections around here are getting tighter so hopefully if I can master this technique it will help my results a little bit. Any help would be much appreciate. Also I KNOW the bike is like a tractor so please do not point it out LOL Thanks
  13. I had a goal last year to ride The Scott but purchased a house instead so time and money became very scarce. But I am desperate to ride it this year. I just have one goal to finish the event! I am sure as the event gets nearer I will be bombarding you veterans with all types of questions

    Tong results?

Here is a video of it here: Both Dougie and Knighter feature.
  15. Just came across this on WOR events website. You can clearly see the skills and techniques learnt from trials. This is truly going to be a cracking event. Plus Jarvis still clearly has got "it"! I may even consider doing the trails sprint if they are running it again this year. On a side note they are running an extreme event in Tong as we speak. Saw some footage of the course a few days ago looked interesting, especially considering its DL first time out on the Gasgas enduro.

    280 4t

As I expected the standard body would work fine. I am sure the company in question were just trying to get some more money out of me. I No longer use them after several problems and no one returning my calls. Should do with out a single problem. I only got the Mitani pipe on mine due to a bit of luck. You could always try a Mitani or a S3 at a later date but save your money until you have at least got use to the new characteristics.

    280 4t

As above the standard maps will run with it fine but the Mitani 280 map works very well and will provide you with maybe the best overall result and power. I am currently writing review of a few maps i have been trying with the 280 barrel and Mitani exhaust. A brief review below: Mitani 280 Map: This maps has a nice spread of power. Off the bottom it is nice and smooth but the more you open throttle you start to feel alot more grunt and pull. However I did find that it felt like I lost a bit of engine braking. I also intend to test the Sanz 280 map but have not got round to it yet. I will post on here my review when I do. Wetflt Map: This one is perfect for tight sections or where grip is at a premium. Very soft and smooth across the board. Not ideal for maybe steep climbs or big rock steps but still very useful. It also has a lot of engine breaking which can help navigating steep climbs. I intend to be using this one a lot in the wet tomorrow Also I am not entire sure of the validity of this but when I bought my 280 barrel I was told that it would only work with a twin map PTB. I already had one so no big deal for me but please be aware. I cannot understand entirely why it is essential but just keep it in mind. Any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
  18. Perfect example is David Knight. He could not get on with the BMW bike or the team. Fair play to Fajardo for getting to offer to ride and showing some balls in taking it. I bet many people would turn it down because the bike nor the company is 100% proven yet. Deciding on what team to ride with can make or break a career.
  19. Simple answer No. You need a Programable Throttle body (PTB). However some people when they bought the bikes had the Throttle Body changed to a programable one as an extra. I even think some of the Repsol models had it as standard, 2006 possible?. Post the number on the throttle body and we should be able to tell if it can be done. There are two types out their a single map PTB and a twin map PTB with a switch for the handle bars. PTB appear on ebay from time to time and never seem to go for silly money. Also you will need the cables and software to change the maps. I point of interest as well maybe is that your computer needs to have a serial port which has become rare on new ones. Note: the Single PTB will need the 2005 Software while the Twin PTB will need the 2007 Software. The manual, maps and further information can be found here: Link Any further queries just ask and I am sure we can help you out. Scott
  20. Hey all I have just started having a play with these maps. Planned on trying some maps a lot sooner but work has kept me busy. Basically I have hit another slight snag. I am struggling to set both maps on the twin PTB. I can download and change the first map fine. However the first problem is that I am unable to download the second map. It has crossed my mind that both maps are the same map but this makes no sense. Also when I try to upload a new map to mode 2 just keep getting a error message "ECU unable to shift to data set mode." This makes no sense as I can set mode 1 without any problem. Any ideas from you guys will be appreciated. Thanks
  21. Hey Guys I lost one of my silver fork guards on my Repsol 4rt at a recent trial. I have search on the net and made a few phone calls but no seems to stock them any more apart from the black trick bits ones. it does not need to be real carbon fibre but have that silver carbon look. I know SXS used to do them but not anymore! Any help would be appreciated. Cheers

    New Fantic

Some photos of the new Fantics. New Fantics Sadly no sign of a new trails bike but if these are successful you never know. Maybe Fantic see more money in a range of enduro bikes rather than Trials??? Anyways if Fantic are watching this and want someone to ride a 300 in the British Enduro Championship give me a shout and I would more than be happy to test them out for you
  23. 1, what is your opinions on the build quality on the montesa 4rt? Great. I have had four 4rts and have never finished a trail due to a mechanical failure. At our events I have seen a lot of DNFs on GasGas and Sherco i.e gearbox failure, cracked frames and broken radiators. HOWEVER in the interest of fairness I do spend a lot of time looking after my bikes and try to ride it sensibly. 2, what is your oppinion's on the current position of honda montesa 4rt in the trials market compaired to other makes of trials bikes? Fallen behind due to the bike never having any serious changes in the past five years and new they are too expensive when compared to other bikes. Possible the image has taken a battering as some people have not got on with the bike. 3, what is your views on where honda should go to from hear should they continue with the 4 stroke or change back to 2 stroke trials bikes? Honda will not produce another 2t bike. However there is clear room for improvement and original ideas. For example Husaberg 90degree motor and yamaha leaning cylinder. Combine these with some ideas to distribute the weight such as lowering the fuel tank and montesa could be onto a winner 4, can you please tell me any good and bad points of the 4rt in your on opinion? Good: Great build quality, Massive amounts of after market parts Great suspension good support from suppliers and importer Engine is very good out of the box for some riders. Bad It is not a easy bike to ride. You need to concentrate and learn to ride it. I am good on the bike but it can and does catch me out from time to time. Expensive new therefore forcing 2nd hand prices higher. 5, Do you think the honda montesa 4RT is the best trials bike that has ever been made (build quality, life expectancy, ride quality, market range]? i have not owned many trials bike so it is hard to tell. Most important of all it is very fun to ride. When It is going well you cannot get the smile off my face. Am i in a Hurry to replace it??? No. I would like to try a OSSA in the near future but I wont have the money to buy one therefore I will keep the 4rt for a while longer Hope this helps Mark. What is it for anyway mate?
  24. Thanks guys. Any idea where I can get the 07 software??? Have any of you played about with these maps? Any recommendations? I would imagine that it is all down to personal preference. Is their a massive difference with the Sains map? I am curious to see if it is overly powerful or more progressive than standard. Once i get round to playing about with the maps I will report back my findings. Now just to convince the Mrs to let me keep the bike in the living room for a few days. Garage is really too cold for this type of work.
  25. Hey all. Been a while since i last posted so i thought I would end my duck as it were. I have a mitani 280cc kit on my bike now with a twin map PTB. This has made the bike even better to ride and control as i can use the torque more. However I have been wondering about changing the mapping to find one that suits me better. The PTB is suppose to be set to mild and wild but I cannot tell the difference between the maps really. Compared to the vortex on my crf where i can feel the map changes instantly it seems silly to have two maps so similar. I have the cables and software from a 2005 4rt but I have never used it. Can anyone explain the process or if I need an updated software for the twin PTB? I think the maps are different between the single PTB and twin PTB? Also does anyone know of any pre existing maps people have published that I can try out? I have heard that a Laia Sainz map for a 280cc barrel has been floating about. Has anyone got a copy I can try please? Any help would be appreciated Thanks Scott
