Mr. Bill put on another great West Coast Youth National at Donner Ski Ranch, the problem is not too many got to ride this awesome venue as turn out was pretty light.
I said something about in Lane's place, but for those that don't venture there I ask what would make all those that went to the Y.N. in Tennessee come out to one of the best trials places in the world for this event. I hope you don't just say it is too far as ten Ca. kids went to Tenn. and Donner was a ten hour drive for us here in Southern California. Chad Redman traveled the most since he went to both and he is from Oregon!.If Tenn. and Donner where part of the championship series would you guys then come out? Was the event just not promoted enough and you guys didn't know about it? Does it need to be with a adult national for you to make the drive? Next year from what Mr.Bill said the classes should be the same as the TTC so maybe that may bring some out. I would just like to hear any ideas on what would make the event the success it should be.

You beat me to it Dab. I was going to say the same thing about the ribbon. Also the trials that I have been at where they go around the trees with the ribbon they always seem to be higher than 12". I think that rule doesn't need to be there.
Also in section 5-b for doing the points it says only count 1/2 the events plus one. That means two people could go for a championship and only ride together once. Maybe just drop one or two events. We don't have that many trials to begin with.
As far as the classes, I like them . If they use numbers or letters for the classes makes no difference.
-
I think the lack of responses must mean people like it. People only say stuff when the want to complain. I know I liked it.
I thought the same thing about the four feet. The last trial I was at there was several gates that the handle bars could barely fit through. See what I mean here I am complaining again

Wow that would have been nice. We left Tuesday and just got home Friday afternoon, it was pretty slow going with three small kids back to California. Now that we are home after being gone for almost 2 1/2 weeks I don't know what to do first, mow the lawn, empty the trailer, shave.......I think I will just go to bed.
We had a great time and already reserved our camping spot for next year. I wish I would have met more people from here online, I just was having too much fun to even think about it. Thanks for coming over and introducing yourself Brian.
Now off to bed
Wow cool I just became a" advanced" member

As much as we talk about the fun that we have the competition level is very high. I noticed last year as the competition started the kids where a lot more serious and the kids I had joked with a day or two earlier didn't hardly even see me as they walked the sections and I did the same with my son.
As for how good they are we have two twelve year olds coming from California and one rides advanced and the other the class just above advanced. I know last year I was surprised to see how tuff the #1 and the #0 line where.
That brings up another question for me though. What is more prestigious for a kid, the NATC nationals or the youth nationals. The youth nationals get more coverage in trials comp. (I should know my son has gotten more than his fair share of pictures) Yet the NATC nationals are not broken down into so many classes and include more trials. I showed horses as a kid and we kind of had the same deal where we had a national show that all the best came to and if you won that one big class you where national champion but, if you had a bad go that day you may get beat by somebody not as good. Then they had a year end award and if you got the most points in a year you could be #1 in the nation, the thing was if you hauled to more shows or lived in a bigger state you could get more points. I never could figure out which was more prestigious and fortunately I as was able to win both. Now I wonder the same thing about this which would the kids rather win.
We are leaving tonight for the YN as it takes a while to get there from CA. with three small kids so hope to see you all there

I find that strange as besides the kick starter coming loose no matter how much lock tight I put on it my sons 80 has been rock solid
-
The water pump? The water pump is connected to a gear off of the crank so as long as the motor is turning over the water pump is turning.
He may mean the fan which is on a thermostat and comes on once the motor gets hot. If it needs to be replaced it's not that big of a deal.
-
It's 5 inches
Are you making one for me for the youth national Just kidding
-
Clive,
Your right I should have come by and said hi, but it is a two way street. I will say when I saw you riding the first thing I thought of was lier lier pants on fire
I thought that was something Doc would say that's why I thought I would dish a little back to him. I don't think he would say "dude" though, not a old west word.
I figured he was one of Ringo's Plonkers buddies just having fun. Now I don't know though since they had a ride this weekend and the ATA awards out at Lucerne. I didn't see anybody else there from SoCal, and when I finally drug my butt out of bed from getting home at 2 a.m. he had already posted. Now I can't even figure out where he is from
-
I don't remember seeing some pale white skinny dude there
-
10 reasons a seven year old wants to go to the youth national
1 go swimming at water fall
2 see all the kids he met last year
3 see the fire works show
4 light some fire works himself
5 he is now tall enough to drive the go carts this year
6 ride bicycle trials
7 wants to ride in a creek (we don't get much of that in SoCal)
8 take a ride on a trailer to see a farm
9 to see and catch fire flys
10 since we're already there ride some trial at the end that hopefully you get a big trophy for doing. Made by Brian
My point is, younger kids are there for all the fun stuff to do there, and it is worth making the effort to go besides just the competition
-
After all the fun we had last year we wouldn't miss it. We had enough fun even before the competition started to make it worth going. This year the hole family is going instead of just Ty and I. The drive from California should be fun with a 2,5,and a 7 year old plus the wife
We should be there the Sunday before it starts.
Ha, guys I don't know who you all are so hit the edit button and tell us who you are who your kid is and what class he or she is riding.
My kid is Ty Cullins 7 year old.
-
I am pretty sure he is doing it again this year. This is what our kids need
-
Elf is all I use in mine and it works really well The clutch feel much smoother than with other oils.
-
I can't tell you about the good old days since I have only been in trials for six years, and as much as everybody doesn't want to hear it he is still a very good rider. On his vintage Bultaco he easily won our Intermediate class(Sportsman for some of you or the class just below Advanced)and he looked very smooth doing it. The one time I saw him compete on a modern bike in the Advanced class he easily beat me and I am a lower to mid level ADV. rider. I didn't feel too bad though he has been doing it since before I was born. If as he said in one of the other places that you had to beat him to ride a national they would be pretty small, I also think he could be one of those senior "works riders" but then there would just be even less money for the pros
-
You mean there's money in those things? I guess I should ask MR. Bill where Ty's and mine checks are. I thought we just did it to promote trials and have a little fun. They would be more fun if we had a Cop car to ride over though
-
I would be happy to do it, but we might want to wait until later in the year so more people will come out when it's not so hot.
We went out there on Saturday and nobody else was there, just me and the kid and I think it was only like 100 degrees.....WHIMPS
-
I had to laugh(or would that be lol I still don't get all those computer things ) For those that don't know their old west history or saw the movie Tombstone, Doc Holiday killed the outlaw Johnny Ringo.
-
Ya, and I heard some of the guys where he was from laughing that he was riding INT. or then again maybe there INT. is like our Sportsman and they thought he was really cherry picking
-
The ATA may have all those classes but we still only have 6 separate lines and that is all we are worried about. For the separate classes we could just do the same thing we do now for example.
1
2
3-a
3-b
4-a
4-b and so on.
As far as which way it should go 1 should be at the top and 6 at the bottom. This is the way vintage does it and the youth nationals and it just seems to make since.
Either way though I don't care we need to get it done.
-
I agree we need to do the work if we want to have the fun If the BLM knows that we leave the area better than we found it they will be happy to have us there.
-
-
Come on Ringo admit it he keeps us all entertained and there wouldn't be half the posts or views if he wasn't here. You and Mich and some others keep me coming back

If you think that is hilarious check out all our classes here in the ATA in Southern California

I think the lack of responses means hardly anybody knows what to say, I know I didn't.
After thinking of it I think copemech is on to it with they should be competent in all the moves as described in our end of the year Trialsport Magazine...Splatter, The ride up, Zap, Holding pressure, Hop, Nose Wheelie, Floater, and wheelie drop, Probably not the Flip turn The only other thing I could think of is a Advanced rider should be able to balance for a indefinite amount of time on flat ground.
I like the unicycle thing and now I know what my cousin is talking about when he says he's at level 6 or 7
