My first trials bike was the '97 Techno, yes it's "normal" once the plates have a little time on them. I didn't bother changing plates until 5th & 6th gear started slipping

As much as I like my bike I can see why people wouldn't like them too, I'm glad we have choices and I hope the 2 strokes stay around so we always will. As for the power, you can reprogram the EFI to be more aggresive and now I see Lewisport is selling a 290cc kit for them so you should be able to get plenty of power out of it. Your right though buying the most expensive bike then dumping a bunch more money into it doesn't sound very good for a bike you MAY like as much as a 2 stroke I know I couldn't justify buying a new bike and doing all the stuff that is done to mine, heck my wife thought I was crazy for paying a new bike price for a used bike.
-
I'm suprised nobody else has answered yet, my bike came with the larger master cylinder already installed so I don't know if the fittings are stock or not without looking at another 4rt. I have been playing with the camera so here's a picture so maybe you can tell.

The way I read it on here and the way my NATC Rep. said it was they where adding a 125cc class for 12 to 17 year olds that would ride the expert line. The JR and HS classes would stay as they are, open to any bike size. Have you now heard somthing diffrent?

Thanks Utah,
It's the first time I have ever had for sale a bike that I still really like and it looks better than the new bikes.
That's one reason I go on the KTM sight, to talk about and show trials pictures as much as I can so when those guys see a trials bike it doesn't seem so wierd. Of course there is a KTM 450 & 65 in my shop too.

I don't think I need to be an expert on fuel delivery to know it is better. I am no suspension expert but I know single shock is better, I'm no brake expert but I know disc brakes are better. I'm sure if the Internet was around in the 80's we would have been debating if trials bikes needed water cooling and all the problems of a water pump & hoses and all that, seems a little silly now, I think in a few years we will think the same thing about EFI.
I knew I should have kept my mouth shut as knew I would end up in a debate like this and would come off like I don't like Betas, in fact I am a big fan of Beta
Your not alone

Ron,
Yes, my new Montesa is heavier than my old Beta and I have yet to even see a 07 Beta in person. I don't believe any of thier "claimed" weights, but I figure they all must lie about the same so with that the Beta is claimed heavier. If the Beta 4t does weigh only one pound more than a 05 Rev3 than that is impressive. The hole Beta 4t news broke about a week after I decided to get the Montesa and before I had taken delivery. I thought about it for a little bit, but decided to go ahead and get the Montesa. If the Beta did have EFI, I would have one on order. Who knows after I ride one I may have to get my wife another diamond ring, that's how I got the Montesa I'll ask what a lot of other people want to know, how soon do you expect them in the U.S.? Oh and the kid is doing very well he keeps bugging me for a 125

I'm suprised this is even a debate, I'll go with Don and say it's a clearly superior system and I thought that before I had one That's part of the reason I bought it, BTW Don doesn't have one. Even if the carb works well on the Beta it still needs maintaince and needs to be adjusted for elevation, You don't have to do eithier with a Montesa. If you want it to run slower gear it down! My bike has a 44 tooth sprocket on the rear and it feels perfect.
I have been wanting to say this for a long time. As a guy who has had Beta's for years and liked them very much, am I missing somthing here? Take a Rev3 put a 4t motor in it with a carb and have it weigh more than a Montesa and everybody is going crazy. I have always liked Beta's and I may like riding these bikes, they just don't seem that revelutionery to me

Ya, my bike has a fast throttle and it is shorter than other bikes with the same. I like it
-
My bike has the two stage programable EFI. You can put in any two maps you want. Two soft ones, two fast ones or one of each, what ever you want My bike has one that is softer than stock and one that is more aggresive than stock. When you flip the switch on the bars you can hear the diffrence just by blipping the throttle while the bike is not in gear! The soft one is very smooth off the bottom and works great where traction is a problem and it also works nice when you want to make smooth tight turns, the aggresive one is good in sections with bigger steps and where traction is not a issue like we mostly have here in Southern California. In the last trial I even changed it in the middle of a section. I haven't done it yet, but it is cool to be able to tune your bike with a laptop instead of a wrench
You can get the standard 4rt and buy the programable throttle body that you can put a diffrent map in to change the power to your liking or you could get the two stage programable throttle body that has a switch on the bars that you can change between two diffrent maps. You could also find a 05/06 Repsol Replica and it will have the single stage programable EFI. The new 06/07 Repsols don't have the programable EFI. As far as where to got it, where are you at?

My bike with the Mitani muffler is quieter than the stock muffler is with one baffle left in and is a lot quieter than a bike with them all out. I think it is a little louder than a Sherco 4t, but not much.
The hole Beta thing is kind of funny, after having Betas for so many years the week after I decide to get this bike the Beta 4t details come out. After seeing that it doesn't have EFI and that it is heavier than the 4rt I don't feel too bad about my decision. I would like to try one just as I would like to try any bike, but I don't get all the hype on the Beta side since it just seems to be a Rev3 frame with a 4t motor put in it, with nothing exiteing like EFI or great light weight.
So Steve of the 4t bikes you have ridden what have you not liked the power or the weight or both?
-
My bike is the 05/06 model and it came with the programable EFI, but it was swapped out for the two stage EFI that you can swap between two maps with a switch on the handle bars. Right now it has one map that is softer than stock and one that is more aggresive than stock and you can hear the diffrence in the two just by blipping the throttle when the bike is not in gear. From what I understand on the 06/07 Repsols you can't change the mapping
#156 in Australia, #158 in the U.S., any body here have #157? What country did that end up in?
I really like my Beta and really had no need for a new bike since it is still in great shape. When I saw Lewisport selling this bike though I just had to have it, it pretty much has every do dod in thier catalog and selling it for around the same price as a new 4rt. What I really liked was the small tank and the 2-stage EFI. As much as I like the handling and the feel of the Beta's I have always been able to jump on other peoples 4rt's and feel comfortable right away. At the same time I never thought WOW I have to have one of these, they just felt nice as the Beta's feel nice to me. For the first little bit I could feel the extra wieght and it seemed like I had to go a little more where the bike wanted to go and I couldn't change my line real easy, that feel soon went away though. It doesn't turn as well as the beta, of course I don't think anything does. I was suprised even with the extra weight it is just as easy to do my little baby hops. It has a 44 tooth rear sprocket and the gearing feels about perfect after coming off the Beta. The compression braking doesn't bother me at all, I don't know if I pull in the clutch more, but it is not a issue for me. During the trials the thing that bothered me the most was the 5 speed tranny, I never thought about it much, but having the 6 speed tranny is nice on the loop, esspecially when I have to catch back up to the kid when he leaves for the next section while I still am riding mine. At this point I like riding it just as much as the Beta, I wonder in a few months after I get real used to it and then I go back to a Beta what I will think. It will be nice not dealing with any carb issues and I rellly just like the idea of having a bike with EFI
-
I just picked up #0158 Repsol Replica, does anybody remember how many where made? I can't find it.
Thanks

I came off a '05 Beta, the first bike pictured in this thread, I like it a lot and really had no need for a new bike. When I saw this bike for sale I just had to have it, mainly for the small tank and the 2 stage programable EFI, plus it was being sold for around the same price as a new stock Montesa. Here in the U.S. our Montesa's come with the same red fenders or mudgaurds as you call them as in the U.K., the RTL fenders are special order from Japan and I was lucky they had another one
After I broke the fender on Saturday evening I rode the complete trials on Sunday and didn't put another scratch on the bike
-
Or he could buy my 270 and put all the "Bling" off of it onto his 200 I don't think that's Don's style though If the carb leaks do the fix they have said here on trials central or I could help you out with it, it fixed all my leaking problems. Other than that just check the peg bracket bolts every ride. I think you will like it a lot
-
I got this bike last weekend and after riding it for 5 min. I slid sideways off a rock on the side of a hill and me and the bike went tumbeling down the hill. I ended up having a nice view of the skid plate with the bike on top of me. Only five minutes of riding and I broke the RTL rear fender and scrathed up the end cap on the Mitani muffler I didn't want to ride back to the pits for everybody to see Fortunately Lewisport had another fender in his trailer and once I got home I was able to buff out the scratches on the muffler so all is well now. Wow did I feel dumb
-
I just picked up my new Montesa and rode a event on it yesterday, it already had a Mitani clutch installed and the larger master cylinder. The clutch felt as nice as any bike I have ridden and as I found out in my first day of riding it would start in gear as long as I rolled it back and forth once or twice to break the clutch loose. How much is the master cylinder and how much is the clutch plates I don't know, but it all felt good to me

After waiting in line for what seemed like hours to pick up a copy at the Keysville trial I finaly got my copy On the drive home my seven almost eight year old son watched it three times, with his head phones on we heard many giggles out of him and he gives it two big thumbs up and thinks that No Jive will win the academy award for producer of the year We can't wait for vol. 2 "special Sherco edition"
-
The plastics will for sure fit and will make your bike look real nice As to where to get them, where are you at? Your profile doesn't say
-
Sorry to hear that, two cool things and you're stuck at home
-
So are you heading down to Keysville this weekend? If so I would pick up a copy then Or are you heading to Las Vegas to pick up your National award? or doing both like us?
I don't know, If that where the case they would have ridden the bikes off the cliff instead of just pushed them off
-
So is that why beta went with the thinner tank area on the '07 to fit the bigger 4-stroke motor?
-
-
I totally disagree, love them are hate them everyone has to admit the Montesa's with EFI run awesome no matter what. I wouldn't get a 4-st trials bike with out it, In fact I am getting one next week A least now I won't be second guessing myself as I would be if the Beta had EFI
-
I have a '05 and have ridden a few '06 bikes and I agree with what everybody has said above.
