  1. Well our California Youth Team is once again getting geared up for the Youth Nationals at the TTC in July. We have a few fund raisers going on to help us with the large expense to get the kids and bikes back there. First at our local ATA events my wife runs the youth team Hot Dog stand in which we sell hot dogs, drinks and snacks. Everything is on a donation bases so you can just pay what you want, our riders and family's are very kind and we often have 10's and 20's even though nobody eats that much After one event we found a $100.00 dollar bill in the jar and we don't know who left it, we thank that person very much Next we are having our own youth team trial on April 14th. It is going to be a fun trial at Romoland which will consist of four loops. After the event we are going to have a BBQ and hand out the ATA year end awards. flyer We are also having a raffle that night with lots of good stuff including, set of Dunlop tires, set of Answer riding gear, Rental Dougie bend bars, Pro Taper trials bars. Donated from RYP(thank you) NZI tri vent helmet & videos and such. You need not be present to win and I will send all winning items free of charge. I hope I don't get in trouble for selling something, but tickets are $2.00 a piece if anybody is interested. Make checks to ATA-youth team 15687 Pico st. Riverside, Ca. 92508 I hope more states or clubs can do something like this for their kids, (I know our club has been very supportive) Maybe it would help more kids to come out to the Western Youth Nationals at Donner. Again thanks to all those who have helped us out.
  2. Three Rev-3's for me and no stator problems. I also don't know of anybody who has had a problem. I wonder about the moister thing too, It's usually pretty dry here, but I have done a few mud rides. If I didn't read Trials Central I would never even know there was a issue.
  3. I think he is a little more into shooting than riding these days It is a little funny though, he has always been better than me on a motorcycle whether racing or riding trials and I finally beat him by a few points at the El trial.....It only took until he was over 50 and not riding much anymore for me to beat him. It didn't last long as he beat me again at the Kraut Cup trial where he won and I got second. What he is not telling you is it's the SAME three girls for ALL the riders
  4. Looking at the pictures makes me really wish the trials wasn't scheduled on the same weekend as an ATA event down here, I would have traveled up there to ride at Hollister. I would also have liked to go to Praire City, but they had to put that on the same weekend as an ATA event too I used to race Hare Scrambles at Hollister, was the trials in the same area of the park that they run the races?

    Txt50

    1. yes it needs a fan, when my son's quit working it boiled over pretty fast. It uses a computer fan, in fact when my son's went out just before a trial the computer had to make a sacrifice. 2. That is the way they are, (not one of their best features) As tomsdad said turn up the idle and you could also gear it down. 3. For us we found the rear suspension pretty soft and worked well, but the front was more on the stiff side-all the 50's I checked out seemed to be the same way.
  6. Another vote for the Beta 80. My large 8 year old got it not long after he turned 7 and for a little over a year now it has been working great Nice easy to use power and they turn better than any bike I know of with 18"&21" wheels
  7. Did it to the '97 Beta that was my first trials bike and my son's current Beta Rev 80. It is well worth doing and makes a big diffrence

    Info Please!

As somebody who had a '06 Sherco and couldn't come to terms with it, I rode a '07 and it is much better. All the frame changes and the shorter swing arm make for a much better ride, at least for me. If the '06 felt like a '07 I most likely would still have it. It is a little funny when I told people that I might like a shorter swing arm like the 125 they thought I was crazy and now here is a shorter swing arm on the '07.
  9. After a little over a month my kids are loving their Oset's. My three year old still rides with his legs out like wings my daughter ride hers a couple times a week and her brother big brother trashes it in the yard daily The only thing that has broke is the chain cover when my oldest son tried to ride down a log length wise and slipped off. His sister was so made for breaking her bike that she hit him in the head with a stick.....good thing he was wearing a helmet It was pretty funny actually Oh, and the pegs still bug me
  10. Is the top motocross class over there not called Pro, that's where it comes from. Even at local motocrosses they have a Pro class and none of those guys make a living riding, of course they do get cash for the day. I talked to one local Vet Pro who during the summer would race Friday night, a Saturday morning race, a Saturday night race then a race on Sunday and on a good week he would bring home $1,200. Pro sounds cool, but I think you need a purse for that name.
  11. Is it a real helmet like say a Shoei, Hebo or a half helmet like some others?
  12. My son Ty and I went out to race a motocross at Glen Helen today and guess what....I forgot my gear bag Fortunately I remembered Ty's. My full face helmet doesn't fit in my gear bag so I had that along with my boots and goggles. With that a borrowed a long sleeve shirt and went out in my Wranglers, we had a great day but boy my @ss hurts after riding in jeans all day
  13. When I was 12 going to a Enduro I forgot my motocross boots So my Dad and Uncle Duct taped my feet and ankles. The thing I remember most was how at age 12 I was so embarrassed:unsure: Now I forget my cell phone all the time, at least I tell my wife I forgot it
  14. DOT is a U.S. certification and since our trials helmets are imported by our trials importers they don't get certified. I wear a Shoei and my son Ty wears a Hebo and after careful examination before I bought them I would think they would get a DOT rating if tested. I see no way the NZI vented helmet would pass and I wouldn't wear one do to lack of safety. I have checked out the Troy Lee helmets in person and they seem pretty nice, more protective than a NZI in my opinion and I would wear one. I think Troy Lee has to say that do to legal reasons.
  15. I have noticed reading these forums that it makes things sound much worse than they are. For example I have had three Betas and not one has had the stator go out, yet if I read the Beta forum it seems like a big problem and only one of the bikes leaked enough fuel that I thought it was anything but normal so I did the fix I learned about on here . 4rt's plug fouling? there is a bunch of 4rts here in SoCal and I never heard of anybody fouling a plug. If I never read these forums I wouldn't ever have thought that a 4rt idles high either, when I first rode one I just thought they where geared a little high. On my '06 Sherco that I had the fender fit just fine, so I don't know what is up with that . My point is I think reading the forums make things sound worse than they are. Go read KTM talk and its the same thing, it makes it sound like the bikes have a bunch of problems that I have never seen in my KTM's.
  16. My first trial, Feb. 2000 at Frank Raines Park. It was a rainy wet slop fest. Each class rode around in a group which made it easier for a first timer. My '97 Beta that my wife got me for Christmas (so I would stop racing cars) didn't have very good brakes and when wet pretty much didn't work so now I know how vintage guys feel. At the trial nothing that exciting other than I had a couple of crashes that seemed to happen for no reason. The only other thing is I like to think that was the night that my Daughter was conceived, I don't know if it was or not but it happened some time that Feb. and I had fun doing two things that day
  17. None of us would want to ride our bikes with pegs that hang up. I see no reason they shouldn't have springs. The battery power level indicator on the throttle is very nice. I thought they are pretty light, I wouldn't make them any lighter or big brother might break it. Ya, built in China or they would cost three times as much. Quality seems fine except for the peg thing. I got the little one on it today. He just kept saying "thanks for getting me this bike Dad" and that makes it worth it.
  18. As I stated above I got two, the 12.5" for my three year old son and the 16" for my 6 year old daughter. After a few hours just here in the yard these are my thoughts. Great value...I bought two for about half the price of one Gas Gas. Very light, the three year old can pick his up no problem. Obviously being quit is great. Many bicycle components, good or bad I don't know yet. It has a speed adjustment to limit the speed. One good thing with the electric motor in that it just limits the speed and not the torque. It's not just a throttle limiter as a gas motor would have. All three of my kids think it looks cool. I haven't had time to teach the littlest one yet on the 12.5" , that will take some time. Once the batteries where charged I let my oldest son who is 8 and is very experienced on his Beta 80 thrash his sisters 16". He thought it was a lot of fun to play on, but in his own words he "missed the hit in the power of a real bike". I had him ride his old Gas Gas 50 to compare. It was obvious that the suspension was also lacking as where the brakes. This was not really a fair test though as the bike isn't for him or his ability and he also weights 100 pounds. Then it was my daughters turn. She has been riding a Yamaha TTR 50, but has been afraid to try the Gas Gas because of the size and weight. I turned down the speed for her and she got on and rode off just fine. The smooth electric power was great for her and the small size and weight made her fell comfortable. She has yet to stand up while riding and often rides with her feet out. That leads to my biggest complaint about the bike, the pegs fold up like regular pegs but there is no spring so they just stay up. She would often push the pegs up with her legs then when she was ready to put her feet on them they would be folded up It does seem pretty cheap to not have springs. So far I like them, my daughter said she wants to practice more so she can ride in her first trial
  19. OSET I just received two last night, one for my 3 year old son and one for my 6 year old daughter. No time on them yet
  20. I was wondering what kind of tire pressure my son should be using on his bicycle? He is 100 pounds and doesn't do anything too extreme yet. Thanks

    Endurocross

Ya, it has gotten big pretty fast. The first year the crowd wasn't so big, but the last two years it has been sold out! If they had say a six race series I'm sure they would all sell out. To me it seems more like a extreme MX than anything, short race around a small track. I think the winners reflect that, two old mx'ers and one World Champ Enduro guy. What would a top MX guy do? Of course those "old" mx guys can still get a top 10 at any national mx. Mcgrath was going to race before he got hurt at his invitational race, that would of brought even more interest. As for top mx guys not being there, they had the Mcgrath invitational, the U.S. Open and the Canadian SX rounds after that. I think they needed a little off season

    Endurocross

Ya, I'm sorry to say the coverage stunk. Only a few seconds of Nick in the Semi. It was only a half hour show, so that means what maybe ten min. of racing? I got home just in time to turn it on from riding....I should have kept riding
  23. When my Beta's started backfiring and losing power at full throttle it was time to change the plug. They would last three or four months and a new plug would fix it All three of my Betas did this, I thought it was what they all did when they wanted a new plug.
  24. Well it has only rained in Southern California about three times this year, yet this morning we had a strange occurrence.......SNOW. I know this may sound stupid to the rest of the country, but a small dusting got us all exited especially the kids. This is out my son's window and my daughter on the balcony it was the first time she has seen snow. It was also a little strange as I drove them to school the sun came out and there was still a little snow falling. The kids where a little disappointed they didn't get a snow day though
  25. If it is I am suprised, I had know idea Parts Unlimted had any trials parts
