  1. I'm just as bad I still don't know about the IMHO and FWIW, but I knew right away what TTFN stood for. Is there a dictionary for computer talk? As far as this topic goes, wasn't there another topic in here a few months ago that I think may have been started by Ishy that said somthing like the nationals may be too easy? If I knew how to look for it I would. To me if one group thinks they are too easy and another group too hard then they must be about right I don't think they should be too easy after all they are nationals

    Gear Box Oil

The book says 550cc, I was told by the U.S. Importer to use 500cc. I'm also not a ATF believier, use a good quality motorcycle gear box oil, I prefer the ELF oil Yes you are right about where it goes in.
  3. I still like the idea of adapting the new CRF 150 motor, it would be much lighter. If they made one like that I would most likely buy it for my son when he moves up from a 80 No matter the cost.
  4. Lucerne usually is not one of my favorite places to go, but the trials that the Plonkers put on was excellent I had a really good time riding the trials and the water section made for a nice change. I wasn't able to stay for the night fun, but knowing the Plonkers I'm sure it was wild. While I was there I talked to Ringo for the first time and he's not such a @ss in person of course I think his truck might think otherwise

    4rt Trans Oil?

O.K. guys I don't get it I know the ELF is expensive because I use it in my Beta, but as much as we spend on our bikes and as little oil as our bikes use it's not that much in the big picture of things. It's not like we are using it to do oil changes in our cars. Montesa recommends it and as much as they cost I would defenetely use the oil they recommend, I would use it in any brand I know here in the U.S. you can get it from usbeta.com

    2 Rt?

I thought the same thing when I saw pictures of the little motor It's time Montesa had a 125 . I have ridden the Scorpa 125 and it's a pretty decent little bike and it's Yamaha motor isn't near the motor of CRF. I don't know all the technical aspects to do it, but I think a different cam, head, more flywheel and the fuel injection would make it one awesome bike
  7. Ya, that would be great I would appreciate the measurements. Back to the main subject, seeing the new Sherco's it says all the changes are for 125 on up. Could they be making a new 80? I also like one of Alan's ideas, since your son is moving down get a Sherco 125 and put a 80 top end on it. That way if he is old enough in a year or two you could just put the 125 top end back on
  8. D'oh......guess I should have talked to the wife first Her family is having a reunion that weekend, I guess it's just one day in the desert for me.
  9. A sane person wouldn't drive as much as I do unless they had a hybrid. I had a 65 gallon tank put in my truck which brings my total 110 gallons. Before I left home I filled up and it was around $240. Without the trailer that got me all the way there and would of got me home, but I filled up at the Grape Vine because they had Diesel that was cheaper. The enjoyment Ty and I have is all well worth it though, along the same lines as Alan's story. It's funny though, Ty tells his Grand Parents how great it was and how he won and how on the loop there was this really hard hill that me and his Uncle Matt had to push him up, It's hard to believe that hill almost brought him to tears and that he was in tears after one of the sections. I don't know if he only remembers the good parts or what, but on the drive home he kept saying how bored he was and how he just wanted to ride his motorcycle some more, then on Monday when he should be sore and tired he sees the Bear Valley pictures and wants to go to that trials. Ya, it's all worth it
  10. We just got back from another 500 mile drive from a trials in northern California. Then yesterday my son Ty was home from school and wanted to look at trials pictures on the Internet so I clicked on lewisportusa.com for him and he found the pictures from Bear valley last year and I happened to say there is a trial there in a few weeks, so he says "let's go". I explained to him it was as far as the trial we just came home from and that we had one that same weekend that is only a 1.5 away. He says "but Dad it's only 8 or 9 hours of a drive" So I think we're off again to another long drive, Going to a great trials place for two days of riding instead of one day in the hot, dry desert....
  11. Did the Sherco rear wheel just fit on there or did you have to do a lot of work to make it fit?
  12. Hmmm.......Sorry to hear that, makes me glad we won that war for our freedom a few hundred years ago .............Please don't take offense, it was just a joke.
  13. This is something that I can say I know something about. I didn't buy my son a Beta because I ride a Beta, I looked at them all and I was going to get him the best bike for him. First I rode a Gas Gas and was pretty disappointed. First the bike didn't feel much smaller than my Beta Rev3 so I knew it would be too big for him and it had almost no bottom end power at all, something a seven year old learning a to use a clutch would need. I have never ridden a Sherco 80, but I know it has the same frame as the full size bikes so I knew that would also be too big and heavy, also looking at the spec.'s the motor has the same stroke as the 125 just a smaller top end. When I finally tried a Beta I was very impressed. First the bike felt very cramped for me which would make it good for my son, also the suspension was way to soft for me which also meant it would be good for him. The bike also has a very tight turning radius. The motor is also very impressive, it has a lot of bottom end power and it is very forgiving for a rider just learning to use the clutch. The only thing I can say bad is some of the components are not top notch, like the steel handle bars, steel swing arm, but the bike rides so good it doesn't really matter. The bike has also been very reliable When I read all the modifications a few months ago that some have done I thought why do that? Then I realized that on that side of the pond kids have to ride 80's until there pretty old. If your kid is just moving up they won't need to do all that for quite a few years. I'm glad I can put my son on a 125 instead of having to work over a 80
  14. You think that is horrifying? I Traveled (as did 10 other kids) over 2,000 miles for our true national championship. Of course that wasn't for a days trialing, it was 3 days, and a week of fun prior to that ......no joking
  15. Thanks Nigel, sometimes it's hard to tell if someone is being a @ss or just being funny It must be nice all the events are that close together. Heck, they would all fit into California. Our close youth event was over 500 miles away
  16. Do I need to defend my kids Diet? He eats anything and everything and that includes lots of salad and fruit and yes the sea food that he mostly eats at my Moms house. She has high blood pressure so most of it is grilled. He also does 1/2 hour a day on the tread mill (because he thinks it's fun not because I make him) two days a week at the BMX track, not to mention riding his trials bicycle and motorcycle quit a bit. He is a solid kid, but not fat (see picture) I can't believe I thought I needed to say all that, maybe I just took what Nigel said the wrong way So can somebody please answer those questions? I just want to know how it is over there
  17. Believe it or not a lot of fish, the kid loves sea food of all kinds, fish, crab, oysters, shrimp what ever. Kind of funny since his Mom and I don't like fish at all
  18. Thought maybe nobody read it, since it was at the bottom of page one.
  19. I have some curiosity questions from across the pond as it is said. I know Americans like everything bigger, but is there ever any problems with the younger kids and the size of bike they must stay on. For example my 7 year old is 4'-7'' tall and 95 pounds(I don't know how to translate that to your measurement so I hope it makes since) which is already too big for a 50 and I can't imagine him riding one until he is 9 years old! He currently has a Beta 80. Then stay on a 80 until 12? I know some darn big 12 year olds too. Is this ever a problem with kids being too big? Also how many youth nationals do you guys have per year? How far do you have to travel to go to them? And on average how many entries do you have per event? Thanks guys.
  20. Sendro, That's a cop out and you know it
  21. I'm not one for bashing Geoff Aaron like Lane, but Geoff didn't do that great last year. He didn't make the main event and was off the pace to the top guys. He was very smooth threw the toughest parts as you would expect, but just lacked the aggressiveness needed to be up with the top guys. Actually David Chavez did better than Geoff even though he didn't make the main either. It was a great show and I hope they make the track tougher so the trials guys have a better shot.

It seems the bike finally got some much needed graphics Where's the black rims though that the 2-strokes have. I am anxious to try one, then if I liked it I would get one for my next bike.
  23. I have never had any dealings with the tryals shop, but I'm sure they do a excellent job. The thing is RYP just has a bigger dealer network and a bigger following which can only help Scorpa.
  24. I just got my new Trials Comp. and see it says that RYP will be the new Scorpa Importer for the U.S.A.. This should really help Scorpa be a bigger player in the U.S.. Seems good news for all the Scorpa guys.
  25. Dan those are some good ideas on different things to do and I kind of had some of the same thinking to make it a youth extravaganza or what ever since the Y.N. is the established family camp as well the national championship at the main trials venue in the U.S....not to mention a fun event for the whole family. As far as the events so close together, they need to be during the summer when kids are out of school. I would still like to hear what would bring the other families out west. Would having it around New Years or Thanksgiving (a good reason not to have to go to the in laws ) as motocross does help? Of course that would take out Donner unless we are doing snowmobile trials We don't want to take anything or anybody away from the Y.N. as we will always go to both I would just like to know what would make more families to the same.
