    I'm lucky!

A lot of the Spanish guys stay at the Alexandria Here It's at the other end of the high street but still an easy walk to Parc Ferme. At lease you'd have people speaking your language and a really nice group of lads too. I think Carlos Casas (Trialero13 on here) stay there.
  3. Cracking photo. Must be one of the best I've ever seen and they say trials is too sedate.
  4. Fort Bill's pretty safe as long as you've got a good lock. Most just park up outside the hotels but B&Bs should be able to give you safe off street parking or maybe a shed/garage. If you'e reading this thread for the first time this year (2011) please note the route plan mentioned above is very old post. The route could be different in 2011.

    I'm lucky!

West end is best if you can get a room. Its always busy of an evening, good food, plenty of beer and a stones through from the start/finish. Its right at the end of the main street too so a very short walk to other pubs and restaurants. Even though we are no accommodated at the Ben Nevis we still end up in the west end most nights.
  6. No Mark Grant though. Who am I going to take the P from this year? I hope Steve Peat doesn't think it will help his downhill results at Nevis range next year.
  7. We've seen an Enduro bike do the Scott now. How about trying it on an R1.
  8. For many this is the main event, don't forget.
  9. Welcome back Mark. Missed you at the trials for a while. Can't stand the heat eh?
  10. Superconductor. yttrium barium copper oxide
  11. FFS please don't be intrigued by this p1sh! Just think about it for a minute. How the f*ck does a f*ckin holograph which is basically an image burned by laser in to a aluminiumised plastic sheet help you with anything, let alone balance. If this was my site I'd set up a filter to stop any mention of this ****. Not for any personal reason, just to stop the poor sods who think this is the magic cure to falling off a trials bike and are happy to spend money they probably can't afford to waste on it. Rant over. (for now at least). Bigfeet help balance! Sent me all your money and I'll send you a big O'ring you can wear and it will not only help you balance but also help in the bedroom too. In fact if you wear it for a month you'll may grow a extra few inches in length and girth where it really matters. The power of this wonderful ring comes from magical power of modified hydrocarbon, carbon soot and H2O and Glycol. (yes, these really are used gas gas cylinder head O'rings.)
  12. I agree about ground clearance but this thread was showing 4WD cars on very little snow. Your point on tyre pressure is also a good one. If you ever get really stuck let the tyres down a bit at a time. As long as ground clearance is OK and you have a pump you can let them right down to a few PSI and even bald tyres WILL grip.
  13. Both Michelin and Dunlop trials tyres are road legal in Europe. A previous bike of mine failed an MOT on the tyre due to the 'not road legal USA and Canada' on them. I spoke to Michelin and they faxed a letter to the garage with the type approval documentation. It then passed. I was once stopped by plod and when I demontrated that the rear mudguard wouldn't support a full size number plate and that even the police team at events such as the SSDT ride with these smaller ones they took a note and said they'd tell the other local traffic cops not to pull me just for the plate in future. Now that's why I call sensible policing.
  14. Donald, I put my ones on about mid October and take them off around April. I've told anyone who will listen that they really should try it. As you'll know, unless you've tried them yourself you just wouldn't believe the difference and unless you really, really push it in warmer weather you wouldn't notice a big different using them all year round. They just wear out about 10% faster. My wife didn't get round to changing her ones back this year and is still using them fine in this year snow and ice. She done about 16K on them since the last snow of early 2010.
  15. I'm sorry to have to say this but 2WD and 4WD doesn't matter that much its more down to the tyres and the driver. Many 4x4s these days come with wide sport patern tyres which just don't work well in snow and ice. A couple of years ago I was driving home and got to a steep up hill with a tight bend half way up. There were cars and 4x4s everywhere. One 4x4 driver coming back down after failing stopped me half way up and said it was impossible. I smiled pulled off again(from the steep bit) drove around all the other cars and disappeared over the top. God knows what they must have thought. I was in a Honda Civic. Now, I live on a hill side in North East Scotland and have driven in deep snow all my driving life so I know how to drive. I also have a pair of snow tyre on the front. Not the studded type just normal tyres with a slightly different patern and high silicon content compound. If you haven't driven on snow tyres you just won't understand how good they are. It doesn't need to be snow and ice either. These things work better than a standard tyre when the temperature drops below 7 deg C. They cost less than most insurance excesses and you can use them for a few years if you change back to the normal tyres again in spring. I bought a soft road 4x4 last year just as the snow started and found it almost undriveable. I bought snow tyres for it within days and have them on again this year. Nothing's stopped me yet and I've had to plow through up to 2-3 feet of snow on the roads in the past few weeks. It's easy to look at online video and comment of the cars but we don't know which tyres they have on or how good the drivers are.
  16. Both Power Director and Corel Video Studio are good powerful packages. Andy's right I tend to use video Studio most. Both will do far more than you are ever likely to use and both can be downloaded on a 30 day trial without any limitations or watermarking so try before you buy. Both are fairly cheap too. I did the first TC SSDT DVD with the trial version of video studio and you'd never know. My mate Matt uses Adobe Premier Pro which is super powerfull but needs a bit of time and experiance to get used to. Its also very expensive if you buy a legal copy.
  17. The gopro is a great camera with one of the best wide angle lens of all helmet cams but and its a big but for me the thing looks like a Gatso speed camera and appears very vulnerable. The footage from the gopro and the contour will be pretty much the same quality.
  18. Matt and I have both moved to the Contour 1080 p HD for 2011. We will be using these a lot more in FW in May and should give you good results. The camera is small and neat and comes with a lot of optional accessories. We've both got the waterproof cases too. The camera is pretty waterproof but this cover keeps the grime off and also allow for total submersion (think of the rain we usually see). The camera comes is two versions a 720p and 1080p version. The 1080 version is worth the extra money as it can record at 60 frame per second in 720 mode (most do 30 fps). That means better motion tracking and very smooth slow-mo's. 720 HD is more that enough for viewing on the TV or online. We produce our DVDs in standard def anyway as fewer people have HD DVDs yet. Editing 720 is easier to as it doesn't take so much processing power. I'd avoid 1080i or 720i cameras if you can. The i stand for interlaced and removing de-interlacing during edit is a pain in the neck. If you view video on any sort of PC or laptop that was recored as interlaced you'll get terrible ghosting and its almost unwatchable. It can be removed but I've not found a package that will recode nearly interlaced footage without some ghosting or loss in quality.
  19. I'm not sure how many of you guys are aware of this but the Scottish Auto Cycle Union (SACU) adopted the use of the no-stop rules at all trials a good few years back. All club and national events are run to no stop rules and in that time I
  20. That's the one Tim. It does look the business.
  21. I was reading a interesting article in a quarterly YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE here in the UK two issues ago on a guy who built an enduro bike with bits from some enduro bikes and a 4RT. Not only had he done a great job but its looked like just the thing for many enduros. I've seen trials bike do well in enduro but never quite enough what's needed is something in between like the bike in the article. If someone sold such a bike I'd be very tempted to give it a go. I'm sure I'm not the only one looking for a good cross over.
  22. Not while people are still pocking fun at you, No.
