Check the barrel definately, and ring sandifords.
As you can usually just put a bigger piston in, unless you have the largest barrel, alternatively sandifords usually have 2nd hand barrels!
I had a friend who had a 98 model it sounded a right pig, he put new piston and rings in, and it ran for 3 years perfectly - all for about

Like it.
Reath 3 Day or 2 as it was then. It was the first trial i done up north and never ridden a rocky stream before i was hooked. Every year slightly diffrent route not all the sections are the same, well flagged and all is friendly even to a southern poof. Cheers again Richmond Club.( the Marquee climbing was impressive)
thank you kind sir

you are dead right atomant- but who is going to invest money into the sport, it has been tried for years and still no luck - the best thing that ever happened to trials was kickstart - but you tell people you ride a trials bike and they go
"oh so you ride over a few oil drums, and up and down a trailer"
Lets face it you can get 30'000 people to watch 22 overpaid fairies kick a bag of wind round for 90 minutes - who's going or wants to watch 15 - 20 lycra clad men ride there bikes up rocks and streams for 5 - 6 hours. Only people who are interested!
Everyone can play football, and dream of being beckham, for trialling you need to outlay
-
One can -
you can tell you come from over the border you tight git!
-
I have a mate who has watched trials and ridden a bit, owns a couple of bikes and he summed it up completely over the weekend with
"Who is going to invest or pay large numbers of cone heads (trials riders) to ride up becks and over rocks, and then get there feet wet and have to venture out in the cold - when they could spend there money on other more viable sports"
He has a valid point,
I bet if you went to a particular section at the ssdt or scott you would bump into at least 60% of the people you saw the previous year - it was just the same at this years world round at hawkestone. Its the same old people supporting these events year after year. There are only a significant amount of people who are interested.
They put off shore power boat racing on tv - does that mean they are going to get extra entries at world events - are they buggery!!!
Its just it is an exciting sport, with an attractive way of life for its sponsors - lets think about it -
monte carlo, on a beach with a load of women in bikini's a rake of stella and food on tap, couple of big tv screens,
or
Hawkestone in the rain, and a couple of tmx birds strutting around in a pair of shorts looking totally pi55ed off at a bunch of "cone heads" watching "cone heads".
The WTC trials scene will only evolve as the top flight riders make it evolve as will the BTC scene.
Club events are booming - ie richmond, Y&G etc so why try and push the sport into something it is never going to be!

Having ridden a variety of bikes over the last few years -
Montesa 315r 2001 - 2004 all models
beta rev 3 2005,
gas gas 2006,
montesa 4rt 2006 still on
I can confirm that the montesa's are the easiest to maintain - airfilter and carb as and when, amongst oiling chain and general checks on 315r
on 4rt, oil changes and also airfilters plus usual checks - other than that not had to lay a single spanner on them.
They are a bit more money to buy, but will save you more on spares and fettlin over the length of ownership.
They also hold there money much better over time.
Spares are available next day from sandifords.
Of the bikes mentioned above i took all of them (apart from the gas gas) round the ssdt, and they all went round no problems at all!!!!
PS i have a good 2006 4rt for sale - only done two trials - mint! e-mail me for further details
-
Hold on a minute -
ssdt entry full
Reeth Three day entry full
Scott entry (probably will end up being full as usual)
All with riders turning up on spec to blag a ride when they dont have one !
Hardly any UK Clubs folding due to lack of riders / members
To me that sounds like the sport is flourishing, even if you altered the WTC you would still only get a few more riders, because the likes of Fuji, Doug, Raga, etc will still win, a few other lads/lasses will have a go - But the costs remain the same, even with TV rights etc- WTC sponsors want the top riders, not also rans.
and in all honesty you are never going to get 150 riders at a wtc, the paddock would have to be huge, never mind the logistical nightmares!!!!
Look at the BTC, 50 riders most of which are supported, same old faces for past 10 years with a few youngsters coming through when the older ones retire or start families etc.

You should by rights only follow where the programme allows you to go.
There are a number of sections you could watch, such as whaw bridge, walk upto richies revenge by grouse moor, also you could watch winterings and potting, which are at the back of gunnerside ghyll, but easily accessible from the road. then watch back on by roys rocks, over to goats then rotten wood and then back to the start, but you'll have to be quick, its easier to watch on a bike.
But keep off the moors and the tracks - if you stick to the road, and walk to the sections you are fine!!
Alot of spectators forget this and it puts a magnificent event in danger of being stopped!
If you want to have a go - just get your entry in, you get to see at least 20 or 30 sections you wont have seen before!!!!
-
The sections are easy when you are stood looking at them, but id have to say it is a different kettle of fish when youre riding them.
You get a quick glance at the section, then you have to ride it.
I would also mention the fact it is not uncanny to get a bit of abuse from the quicker riders, ie if youre stuck in a section and in the line, and not making much effort to get out, because you are so physically tired. Then you'd end up getting some grief.
However dont let that put you off - you have 9 weeks to get fit, and have a go. As the entry form says its open to all!!!
Get that entry in the post.
-
I think i might call by surrender on the morning of the scott, and put a litlle sign up saying - BOG!!!
No doubt some little critters will pull it down, and i wouldn't be suprised if i did it again, red mist and all that!!
-
Entry just gone in the post!
and so it starts for another year - Bring it on!!!
-
I'd have to say we are pretty serious about this trial, so maybe not the night before,
We try pretty hard all day on the bike, so its only fair to try pretty hard in the pub at night!!!
Just a shame there is nowhere open when the presentation is finished!!!
-
not for that day! just a tad cold on the field -
But it would be a fair finish to the trial, a few stellas and a hot tub, wouldnt want the cleaning bill afterwards though!!!!
Any offers for a sponsor for one out there would be greatly appreciated though, cant see any maidens joining us either!
-
Just wondered when the regs are out for the jaunt round the dales???
Perce do you know?

I was watching at section 15, Ron was fiving riders for going out of the line of the markers, not riding through other markers of seperate courses.
Ron had told all the riders where they could go, and where they could not go.
Ron 5'd Cabestany who was quite clearly out of the line. I watched Fugi ride through and he quite clearly went out of the line (for back up - see andy's video of fugi on section 15) and he was given a clean.
I dont mind any observer being keen, as long as evryone is treated the same, quite clearly as can be seen in the video's this did not happen.

How many superstars out there are attending the (annual beer drinking competition!!!) excellent trial, in a fortnight.
Most of our lot are going up on Thursday night - to make full use of the facilities that have been ordered to the start field. (Lads no speedo's, and girls no swim suits).
Hopefully the weather will be like it is today - red hot! giving us all plenty of chance to cool down at night with a pint or two.
See you there

quite simply a golden duck, one hit one catch, (at least i hit the ball though, which is more than at least two of our other stars managed!!!
Hey but did you see my bowl that got wriggie out!!!!!! Hook Line and Sinker!!!!

Whilst the bradford club won't be so speedy to upload the results!
Steve Lampkin's select 11 took a narrow but convincing win in last nights annual cricket match,
Bradford and dmc went to bat first, with Nathan Wrigglesworth and Ross Crosby opening the batting, a few keen shots were played, until wriggie was cooly caught and bowled by myself and little Gary (Beta uks Gary).
Kevin "Freddie Flintoff" Hickie quickly disposed of four batsmen in the space of 10 bowls, and the scene of Bradfords disposal was set.
1st lap was over and it was Bradford 108 all done.
Steve Lampkin sent out his promising batsmen (Tim McParland and Harry Lampkin) first, who were all disposed of in a matter of minutes, and it looked pretty grim, in fact you could sense a loss after 5 batsmen were out for a total of 7, but in true lampkin fashion, all the stops were pulled out.
With Rob Barber and Big Norm knocking the balls all over the field, Bradford couldn't match the skill and agility of our big sloggers. Steve Lampkin came back onto the field to record an impressive 40, (after a retirement at 25) and the team finally retired at 110 off 21 overs.
A big thankyou to all the players, and Mr and Mrs Arthur Lampkin for preparing the BBQ, and Sislden Cricket Club for there hospitallity.

I rode my first scottish in 2002, along with a close friend who had been entered by his brother in law (incidently his brother in law has had a podium result in the ssdt).
This lad had been riding a trials bike for only six months, and was a real wobbler (to be fair). He rode all the course, attempted all the sections, got up witches burn, cleaned cameron hill etc, helped numerous riders on his way (including rubbing a chain link away with a rock, to split a chain on one of his riding companions bikes, who had given up all hope of untangling his chain). He lost about 20 minutes on time, on thursday and his early day.
He finished in the last ten, but got a bigger cheer than the winner when he went up to collect his award!!
He professed never to do the event again, but he got round fair and square!!!
