  1. Owen I have a front hub/backplate from an RXS100 Yam which has 110mm dia and a slot to locate the brakeplate like you are after.Be happy to swop it for a TY type one....
  2. Been following this thread and taking on the various points of view..... Scotland is a long drive for me as it is for many others, lots of trials mates go up each year,I've not managed to get around to it yet.... But, I have to say all the arguing and bits and pieces that come back direct from the event make me feel its not worth bothering - is it really worth it ? I organise and ride trials for enjoyment - the love of the game.I dont think I'd want to be around at an event where people are cheating or certain riders bikes are being let by because of who they are. Please forgive me if I have the wrong end of the stick, but I wonder if I'm alone with these thoughts.
  3. Cant you get a blank one from Talon and get it machined locally ?
  4. Glad you have it sorted, the Falcon shocks have made a huge difference to my HT5.
  5. Talk to the club, they will help you with choosing the right route.I often get asked this, its just a case of listening to the riders background to work out what they will be happy with.Worst case they can ask the observer for a 5 if they dont feel happy to attempt a section.
  6. Trouble is they are small outfits and are very busy, dont have a phone receptionist etc.I'd persevere, the results will be worth it. I have the same problem with my business,I cant afford to have someone answer the phone for me,or deal with people calling in for a chat/book Land Rovers in etc, but just yesterday I reckon I lost at least 2 hours work to interuptions.....
  7. Why do you say contary to other threads on the forum ? I cant help with actual experience of the BTH electronic mags, but it seems most people I have asked get on well with them.A couple of people I have asked have had problems with them, but I think if the truth were known they have been pressure washed.Back when I was having spark problems with my HT5 the chap that owned the BTH outfit wouldnt sell me a unit because he was fed up with off road users pressure washing them and complaining when they wouldnt work.... (Seems they have recently changed hands and now are happy to sell to the muddy crowd) I then had the original Lucas racing mag rebuilt by Paul at APL Magneto's in Shaftesbury - been fine ever since. The rigid AJS I bought earlier this year has the same mag on it,the chap I bought it off had been using it for a long while, its still working well. So,if you have an original in good order I cant see a problem. My only reliability suggestions would be to make very sure its well waterproofed,(The advance / retard cable is good at fillling them with water...) and keep the points cleaned.Oh yes,I leave the points cap off the mag while its in the workshop waiting for the next trial, just to make sure its as dry in there as possible. It seems to me that many running / starting problems with old bikes stem from worn or badly adjusted carbs fouling the plugs rather than the poor mag that usually gets the blame.
  8. Been using WD40 for 30 years, never had a problem, keeps my 62 yr old AJS and 56 yr old Ariel looking good. Smells nice when warming up waiting at sections too.
  9. Not familiar with the electronic system you are talking about, but is the air gap set correctly between the flywheel and pickup ? As said the spark from electronic systems can look weaker and whiter than the blue spark from a traditional points/mag set up - the only real way to see what is going on is by using an oscilliscope. From this you can tell the strength and duration of the spark, which needs to be more than 1/2 a millisecond in duration to be sure of lighting the mixture.
  10. I'd go for a rigid AMC product - but then I am a bit biased. This photo was taken at the start of our Bath club trial yesterday, and we all had a good thrash round - despite the rain.
  11. I would have to agree with the Dellorto, most of the Cubs around the South West that run well have them.My club will accept a Cub in any form if you are brave enough to keep one running....
  12. Get on and do it ! There are not enough rigids being ridden, every extra one helps. That alloy motor is a real treat,I missed out on a genuine ZB32 Alloy because my next door neighbour didnt think I'd pay the money for it.... I would have, happily. A distant relative has recenty given me a 1946 B31 to do up in trials/trail trim - its a few projects down the line, but will get done. They make a good bike, but like yours the frame will need some chopping around to get more ground clearance and to get it to steer. You could always do a B40 as well.
  13. I dont know if anyone else on here rode the 25th anniversary Dartmoor two day over the weekend, but I'd just like to thank Mike Naish and the SWCTA team for putting on a brilliant event over some lovely trials land.(Aptly named Paradise...) The sections were excellent, the variety of bikes was too,(Apart from there only being 2 rigids out of nearly 140 bikes) and the banter was top notch. There were many hangover stories on the sunday(Not me - learnt my lesson there, the sunday is always harder) If you have never ridden this event I think its one of the best - well worth a look if you can get an entry.
  14. I dont know for sure about the modern clubs,I only ride P65 and twinshock. If you are over 50 years old you can ride modern bikes in most classic clubs, but they would rather see you on a twinshock or P65. The easy routes at classic trials are going to be easier than the C route at modern trials. I often get people coming along as complete novices or returning riders who have been out of it for a long time. Our B route is always laid out to be friendly to novice riders and older pre unit/rigid bikes. My advice,( I may be very biased so dont take too much notice...) is to come along to a few events and see what good fun it is at classic trials. Then find a decent Ty175 or 200 Fantic and join in.
  15. Plenty to choose from,if you want modern there is West Wilts motor club,Swindon and district mcc plus plenty of others, just look in TMX regs available. If you want Twinshock or P65 trials then there is Bath Classic,Golden Valley or Somerton Classic all in the area.
  16. My only bit of advice,(for what its worth) is to listen to the riders and try to put on events which they enjoy. The majority of riders are not at a high skill level,so keeping the sections to a non dangerous, achieveable level is a good start.Remember most riders will need to go to work the following day.

    Ty 250 Mono

They had both, from memory the earlier Ty250 S had a steel tank, cant remember if that changed on later S's.My Ty250 which was an 85 model had the smaller plastic tank. Dont be afraid of either the mono or the earlier twinshock, both are great bikes, fun to ride and reliable - parts situation is excellent too.
  18. My suggestion is to go to a decent trials shop and try them all on.I get stuff like this from BVM as they have such a good range,my current lid is a Hebo with removeable liner - not at all what I went there with the intention of buying, but its the best helmet I've ever had.
  19. I use Domino's on everything,except my AJS.Really nice to use,not cheap.
  20. Is it a good idea to put Ian's number up on here ?
  21. Having a removeable liner like the Hebo lids do is a great step forward in having a good smelling dome...
  22. This is good advice, and last sunday I saw a rider get a shock from his kill switch when it was peeing with rain - make sure its well sealed...
  23. Please dont do the black rim thing, what you have done so far looks really good. Its a 1970's twinshock not a Gasser !
  24. That must have been quite difficult to do,not having a Majesty frame to make a jig from like I did - well done.

    Ty250A Carb Swap ?

Should be fine,I've recently "lent" a mate of mine a Mikuni to go on his Ty250a - he says it works a treat.
