  1. What was it the gasgas folks called the old standard bike still built in '02 TXT or Edition? Always figured them sound enough, not as light, but?
  2. An alternator will not work as a starting motor, but a generator will, and has. As far as I know, this is still used as a starter and generator on jet engines. Not really sure how many bikes before early-mid '70's had electric start really. My 305 Honda Scrambler did not, but the Dream may have!
  3. Dan, did you get the PM I sent you?
  4. Men strike back! How many men does it take to open a beer? None. It should be opened when she brings it. ----------------------------------------------------------- Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick up a woman? Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will probably never be able to support you. ----------------------------------------------------------- Why do women have smaller feet than men? It's one of those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to stand closer to the kitchen sink. ----------------------------------------------------------- How do you know when a woman is about to say something smart? When she starts a sentence with 'A man once told me....' ----------------------------------------------------------- How do you fix a woman's watch? You don't. There is a clock on the oven. ---------------------------------------------------------- If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at the front door, whom do you let in first? The dog, of course. He'll shut up once you let him in. ---------------------------------------------------------- Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a woman's sex drive by 90%. It's called a Wedding Cake. ---------------------------------------------------- Why do men die before their wives? They want to. ------------------------------------------------------ Women will never be equal to men until they can walk down the street with a baldhead and a beer gut, and still think they are sexy. ------------------------------------------------------
  5. All you have to do is compress the suspension, jump up and forward while popping the clutch and throw the bike under you to the left or right. You must be commited! I suggest football pads for practice!
  6. I have forgotton what we are trying to achieve here, not sure I ever knew! Yea, Jon, I seem to recall the old Yam's as in DT 125, 175 not sure about 250, using the generator as starting motor!
  7. Ish, what jets you running on 2T ?
  8. I don't know why you need 110 leaded in the first place. Acyually it does not burn well in a motor that does not requier it, then add the potential TEL residues. You might ck the deposits on your piston and head as well.

    Sherco 2010

I know it varies with the fuel and conditions, but if you cannot get your fuel screw down to the truely adjustable range of less than three turns, you are out of bounds and cheating your transition circuit as well which does nothing to smooth the bike. Add to it if you are getting the alcohol in your fuel! Pick your own poison!
  10. Jon, you gotta remember these guys speak RON, not R+M/2 method ! Yet still, i think their premium gas is comperable at 98 RON to our 91/92 best i can tell. Seems most are getting the 10% ethanol treat to go along! What crap!
  11. Bob, A friend sent me some pics. One can clearly see the spring yet not the clip. It surely goes on the backside of where the shaft enters the cam. These are in the normal running position, kicker lobe not engaged. All said, I think you may have to remove the cam to get things back in situ. MC
  12. I came up with a solution to all this "power application" stuff many years ago. It was called a "clutch" and was totally independant of engine revs or crankshaft speed. The non-stop riders would not use them, so the idea was trashed!

    Sherco 2010

If you are having to run the screw out that far, you need somemore jet! Try the 35-36 range, I had to go to 38, which really helped eliminate ping in the off idle transition range below 1/8 throttle and smoothed things. Get your fuel screw down around 2 turn range for maximum control! You are not adjusting anything a 4 turns! Look at the tip of that needle!
  14. I am unsure if this is related to the alcohol or not, or just simple HC permiability. What I would like to know is if they will shrink if dried or baked out? It just seems to me this has always occured even prior to the alcohol laced fuels.
  15. I do know how they basically work, yet never had the Sherco apart. Cannot tell from the parts illustration excatly where the retaining clip fits, as it seems it must be on the backside of where the shaft enters the cam. Hopefully you can pull te bugger out through the plate hole. And if the shaft is bent, this should be easily detected as it should rotate freely in the installed position against the minute spring pressure. Where's the clip?
  16. I would doubt all this, as smoother application(or reduction) of power is what negates breaking of the available traction, not the opposite! This is why some of the mont 4T riders complain, as they want to ride clutch out and let the power pulses work. If you want to create an ABS/ traction control system, connected to throttle, it is much easier done via wheel speed than crankshaft speed.
  17. RETIREMENT BONUS If this doesn't make you laugh, you are truly humor impaired! The Navy found they had too many officers and decided to offer an early retirement bonus. They promised any officer who volunteered for Retirement a bonus of $1,000 for every inch measured in a straight line between any Two points in his body.. The officer got to choose what those two points would be. The first officer who accepted asked that he be measured from the top ofhis head to the tip of his toes. He was measured at six feet and walked out with a bonus of $72,000. The second officer who accepted was a little smarter and asked to be measured from the tip of his outstretched hands to his toes. He walked Out with $96,000. The third one was a non-commissioned officer, a grizzly old Chief who, when asked where he would like to be measured replied, 'From the tip of my weenie to my testicles.' It was suggested by the pension man that he might want to reconsider, explaining about the nice big checks the previous two Officers had received.. But the old Chief insisted and they decided to go along with him providing the measurement was taken by a Medical Officer. The Medical Officer arrived and instructed the Chief to 'drop 'em,' which He did.. The medical officer placed the tape measure on the tip of the Chief's weenie and began to work back. Dear Lord!' he suddenly exclaimed, 'Where Are your testicles?' The old Chief calmly replied, Vietnam!
  18. My ' 05 250 Sherco is still the fave in my mind! 'Twas good bike!
  19. I had noticed this a bit as well in earlier years, but never had the bikes long enough to be an issue. One can actually get a bit of adjustment out of the top post on the earlier bikes. It was always suspected, but on the '07 I have pornographic evidence of the fact! The tank has grown about 10mm in length and is getting really difficult to cram into the hole! Add it is indeed to the point where things are getting critical! I am not sure if this is just a normal reaction of nylon to gasoline, or a reaction to the other stuff in the fuel, nor am I sure if it can be corrected and shrunk! Do we have any local plastics engineers that could enlighten us, seems we did at some point?
  20. They get SOO good at finding traction in the slick conditions it is rather awesome!
  21. You can usually reach (dad) Noel, at smageshercosales.com and click on the contact link. He will be glad to hear from you. And I will add that I will do my best for Pat this year as well.
  22. It would probably take me DAYS to type out my complete thoughts on this subject(using both fingers), yet I shall start here. Just how good should an average bike be for the average rider? Do the bikes we have now do anything to attract your average rider that may be into other things like enduro or mx into even wanting to try to ride one, or are thet just too specilized? Now mention the novice off the street. Where does he begin? Bikes are a bit too radical! Cannot sit on them! And the ones you might mostly belong in a musuem now. Old pos that cannot get parts for,and if you did you would pay!!! Although lots still love their old TY's or Pinkey's, or even the ole Fantics and such, none of this is really good for a clean start in trials, better for the collector type. So we see those who cannot balance try to start out on a well worn 2000 model something, that is just as unforgiving as a new bike, yet worse because it is a worn out pos that creates more headaches than they are worth for many. Yet even back then, when I came back off my long layoff from riding dirt, I asked the simple question " Is there anything with a SEAT that I might be able to play around with and enjoy?" Simple answer "no" ! Not unless you want to find an old one! Now I do admit there are exceptions such as the Scorpa long ride, yet they are few and still a bit kinkey, and seem to be out of balance with what many beginners may want or like. It just seems to me we are really missing something for most. A new Raga or Evo may be tempting for some, but how does any of that help a novice or punter? Simple reliable bike that actually attracts riders and is versitle and functional that does not cost an arm and a leg. Does not loose half it's value in the first year. And is fun to ride! Someone please show me one!
