  1. Riding trials bikes renders all other forms of physical exercise boring.
  2. Small aluminum shovel can be cut and converted into a cheap but very effective bash plate 🤓
  3. I have an awesome riding area if you travel to Central Frontenac Ontario hit me up 😎 I regularly host competition events and riding is all I do when I'm not fixing broken things.
  4. Do you have nice wide grippy foot pegs mounted now? they make a big difference, do that first before altering peg positions is generally best. Biggest problem I had with any twin-shock bike was all the bruises on the insides of my legs. Best riders don't use the bash plate so on that item ymmv depending how good you ride. Crashing is going to happen if you try hard enough stuff and at 69 I don't mind the crashes if I can ride the harder stuff, crashing is motivation to ride better 👍 I stud the tires and winter ride too which is a blast and extends the riding season significantly for our latitude. On gearing you need at minimum one off road gear range that takes you from 0 to as fast as the engine can hall you by only just controlling the clutch friction zone, biggest hills you need to climb or biggest splats you will ever ride are usually the best gauge. Some of your questions require seeing you ride, knowing body weight and dimensions, level and terrain you typically ride etc. Reflex is almost as good as twin-shock bikes come next to SWM but brakes and suspension would be inadequate for where I ride and I know I would crash badly. Ride lots and prosper 🖖
  5. Maybe I will rip an old one apart and see, otherwise I have fallen prey to the same advertising misinformation bait & switch for the past 25 years.
  6. " Brand MICHELIN Tire Profile: TRIAL Tire Classification Racing / Trial / Tyre Size Front Tire: 2.75/-21, 80/100 R21 Rear Tire: 120/100 R18, 4.00/ R18 Carcass Type: Tubeless / TubeType / Diagonal / Radial / "
  7. I guess some riders don't remember how much of an improvement radial tire technology made to trials bikes. Radial is now the first and most important spec I look for when buying a competition motorcycle tire, be it for street or dirt the radial tires blow away bias tire performance by a huge margin. If it does not say radial on the sidewall or have an R represented in the tire size code, it's probably an inferior product and I won't be buying it.
  8. Darned if I can find the answer to the most important questions; is the TL01 front even a radial ply tire? and are TL01 stamped 'Not for road use in North America' on the sidewalls?
  9. The dellorto tuning manual available free online states: "prolonged use of a vehicle at an altitude higher than 1500 metres" in reference to jetting change requirements, that's almost 5000' so I would read that as you being able to adjust the carb for the elevations you are riding using stock jetting. Have you already adjusted the needle valve cir-clip position? You won't be able to tune it until you have the air intake in place.
  10. Other than the copper wires looking over gauge, the white glue looking very heavy and the green colour finish on top of the normally bare steel magnet cores. I think you are looking at a non-oem refurbished part. "… holding the throttle wide open, engine surging but not reviving. Had to walk back and get the truck. Started later. " sure sounds more like a carburetor float needle and seat problem from here.
  11. I agree with you that brake model is a pos. Had one just like it seize up on only the outside pistons and it was braking only on one pad. Worked again after I used the hydraulics to break the stuck pistons free (with a bang) so assumed it was corroding on the inside and lost faith in it, bought a Beta brake to replace it and then ran into some issues with the size of the hydraulic fittings. I've never experienced this problem with the brake models fitted with a bolt or a spring pin to hold the pads in place. Speculating it was related to covid era production shortages just like the 'pink' rims and anodized parts that came on my 2021 TRS 300 e-start that were suppose to be 'red' but material shortages caused production problems with the anodizing process and were allowed to pass quality control due to covid times, that's my take on it.
  12. I heard KTM uses the same sprag bearing setup. I knew the sprag was going to be a high maintenance item from the start but this is over the top, when you get a new bike from the factory and it already sounds like a bag full of hammers that's a big problem.
  13. All of my electric start problems repeatedly turn out to be related to the sprag bearing spring, I have both a 2021 and a 2023, replaced the battery on the 2021 and likely did not need to, the 2021 is on its second rebuilt sprag bearing and my 2023 sprag has failed in less than 37 hours of operation and I have been using the kickstart most of the time. That light weight sprag bearing spring is going to be a huge problem if we can't buy them cheap and 6 at a time.
  14. Never get my fingers pinched even if I punch a tree, rarely damage a lever in a fall.
  15. No the levers should be roughly 20 degrees down from horizontal. If you tilt the levers too far downwards you won't be able to reach them on steep down grades.
  16. I solve that problem with shorty levers and by moving the lever mounts way far in on the handlebars. There is only enough room on the lever for one finger so the lever can never crush the remaining 3 fingers and you are operating with the index finger near the outmost end of the lever giving you the best possible purchase and power to operate the lever comfortably. Clutch friction range should be where your index finger can operate easiest and not give you arm cramps. If your index finger needs to extend too much to fully engage the clutch then you will get arm pump fast so set up of the levers is very dependent on the size of your particular hand.

    TR77 Wiring

Or you could wire the lights to run dead loss off a lithium battery and charge it from a wall outlet when you are not riding.

    Which Gearbox Oil?

Transmission and wet clutch oil actually, since it is not a 4-cycle engine. You are looking for a lubricant (oil) that is suited to the operating temperature you are likely to be running in. I use all season hydraulic excavator oil which is ISO46 why because I buy it in 5 gallon pails and it works as good in a motorcycle transmission as it does in a farm tractor transmission or excavator that is full of gears and wet clutches. More important is that you keep the oil clean and free of water, so change it frequently which is going to happen a lot more frequently if you are buying it at 7$ per litre and not 20$ per litre. Viscosity charts will show you where !SO46 fits relative to other lubricants. What you don't need in a manual transmission and wet clutch is multi-grade 4-stroke engine oil with friction modifiers.
  20. Some days nothing seems to want to work good
  21. Easy to cook a rear brake by dragging it against the engine power, front brake not so much if you don't have pavement. Last time I had a trials bike front brake steaming hot on trials terrain was never.
  22. Blow torch or do you do this on pavement?
  23. I just sand them dry and put them on dry to break them in. One thing I did run across recently was wedge shaped pads, one end contacted before the other. I had to keep sanding the high side until the pad face was parallel to the steel backing plate. Might want to watch for that, they performed poorly out of the package. Bought a set of pads with lots of brass flakes in them, those were garbage and I went back to Galfer reds.
  24. You have to buy a GasGas service manual? that sucks, it should come with a new bike.
  25. Hints for all on reassembly; torque charts are based on wet threads not dry. Service manuals or the net sometimes give inappropriate torque values, triple check them because many confuse inch pounds with foot pounds during conversion, or they are just printed wrong. If you are not using a 1/4" drive torque wrench on M6 or M8 bolts it might be the wrong tool for the job, I've also seen people not use the handle correctly, the handle pivots at the correct distance to the tool, it doesn't flop back and forth like that without reason. If unfamiliar with operation practice on something that does not matter first. 👍
