  1. IF 80-99% don't care about WTC then WHY does it matter if Bou rides a works bike??? The standard 4RT is great Clubman entry level bike......... but all we hear is bitching about Bou's bike. Alfredo Gomez won the Euro Champ on a standard bike with some aftermarket bits that anyone can buy. If the sport is to grow then we need more Honda and Yamaha and less Greeves and Xispa. How many new riders have been financially forced out of the sport by poor quality bikes that require constant input of $$$$ and offer p*** poor resale. Quality bike = more riders can afford to stay in the sport. How many lads have started into the sport via the TY 80 ? a 35 year old bike. Quality keeps bikes in circulation longer and creates a good entry level price bikes for the Noobies. Name another Manufacturer besides Honda that has been building trials bikes since 1974.
  2. Very Impressive. Innovation + proven ideas. Congrats to Tarres and team. Shock looks like it could get warm.
  3. Yes, you could shrink the series OR you could aggressively market it, grow it and bring in some real money for the riders and promoters. It's possible.
  4. This is the point I was trying to prove. That some buyers are willing to compromise on long term reliability in exchange for short term weight loss. If you read both of my previous posts you'll understand. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to do the "mulitquote"
  5. You are wrong...some factories design their bikes knowing that there is a segment of the market that will accept less reliability in exchange for a lighter bike.
  6. Yes, I've seen a steel frame failure recently due to the lack of fork stops. the sharp edge of the triple clamp hit the frame tube , creased it and it not long after it broke...all due to the lack of fork stops. Crikey! bikes have had for stops for 100 years.
  7. The hotel bill for the last US WR 2008 the TTC owner/organizer had to pay was repotedly $15,000.00 + USD.
  8. That was then Steve, as I recall only 11 teams competed in NY that year and 2 of those were USA and Canada. Today a TdN is 20 to 25 teams. Costs and logistics would eliminate most of the amatuer countries and they are the grass roots of the sport.
  9. Make sure the bike is well secured. In case of even a minor accident the bike will become a deadly projectile and crush you.
  10. What is the serial number? See list at Southwestmontesa
  11. TdN in the US would never work. The logistics and costs are prohibitive. Most of the countries/teams have small budgets and would not be able to make the trip, let alone ship their bikes/gear over and back. Tools, spares, gas cans, bike stands, EZ Ups.... Plus where would they borrow bikes? From US Importers? In September when the new models have not yet arrived and inventories are low? Each team would need a minimum of 8-10 bikes times 25 teams that is over 200 bikes. I think a US World Round benefits us all more. We get to enjoy watching the best and our young riders can be inspired by and ride against the best, if they are up to it. A trip to the TTC is a lot easier than a trip to Europe.
  12. Try Rectificados Bellavista in Spain. I think they make rod kits.
  13. Nigel, I am not sure you understand completely, it is not just paying hotel costs for FIM officials, the "Solidarity Rule" requires the US organizer to pay hotel costs for ALL riders coming from another continent. Even for the Raga , Lampkin and Bou who all have these costs covered by their respective teams.
  14. I think we will see a US WR in 2013. It sure would be nice to see them in action.
  15. the clutch cover can leak IF the skid plate rubber pad is crushed up against it. If so you may need a new skid plate and clutch cover gasket.
  16. US World Round : 1987 Bodines, Pennsylvania (Motoworld bibs and Yank tank in background)
  17. Dungey to KTM for 2 years
  18. Andrew won $350.00, got to display his skills on a major stage, got a full page picture in Cycle News with a side story, TV coverage and media exposure for his sponsors etc... just what any young rider wants....
  19. anyone know why Fuji didn't ride for Japan @ the TdN?
  20. It's a Cota 247 "C"....somewhat rare in the USA. Older Montesa forks will stick after sitting for a long time. Take them apart, use a broom handle and hammer to push out the damper rods. You will see the aluminum bushing on the damper rods have "swelled" and need to be turned down a wee bit. Looks like aftermarket shocks. The tank can be fixed, the rest of the bike is not bad. Does it run? The serial nimber 21M25425 25K+ that is a lot of 247 Cotas Nice find. Make it a runner and ride it. I'll give you $400 for it and two Busch 30 packs
  21. He's impersonating me impersonating Dabster
  22. as I was told it was a cracked Cylinder Head that did him in.
