  1. But thats my point. Why are they spending money on this by giving Bou a great (albeit different to standard) bike, watching him smash everyone to pieces on it, spending
  2. The TXT is a great bike - light, well balanced, reliable and well priced. However, as a first trials bike I'd say the 280 is the wrong way to go. You should IMO look ideally at a 250cc or a 300cc The 250cc is very soft and linear in its power delivery but has a nice amount of torque, so your weight dependant, should be perfect and suits 90% of average club riders The 300cc is again nice and soft, with greater torque and more fire as you climb the revs and becomes a real flyer if you give it some. But again there are many average club riders who prefer the 300 over a 250 due to the low down torque and progressive feel to the engine The 280 is (in my experience) a very different beast, much more fiery, revvy and snappy off the bottom with less torque and again a proper flyer if you give it the beans. I think that this is also the smallest seller in terms of units sold in the UK but GG UK could confirm or deny this. For a first bike I'd say the 280 is the last of the Gas Gas range to get although there will be people on here who love and swear by the 280 as a novice bike. As always, it's down to the rider. see if you can ride all 3 (ideally nicely set up so you can gauge them accurately) engines. Reliability wise, it's the same with anything - If its been well looked after you'll be fine. GG did have some issues but these were pretty much all ironed out by 2005 bikes. For some reason this is still bought up by riders of other bikes who have either had an experience or heard of an experience. IMO they are now (2010/2011 bikes) as well built as anything you'll find out there. Although you will still find Friday afternoon build bikes out there If you take 10 minutes after cleaning to check tightness etc on everything and keep up to date on your maintenance you'll be fine. I'd take my time, try them all and not rush to by the bike thats located nearerst to me.But that's me, I'd rather travel 200 miles and get a good one than travel 20 miles for a dog Good Luck
  3. Mmmmm so maybe not! So are they still making new 4RT's or are they just getting someone to slap stickers on a 2007/8/9 etc and calling it a 2011 (is there even a 2011 model) If Honda are so anti 2 stroke surely they would allow Montesa to make/develop a new engine or bike under the Montesa name whilst putting support etc into the project as HRC. Seems a pity that they are missing out (albeit on a TINY market for Honda) for the sake of not making a new bike! Obviously my knowledge of Montesa's and their plan is minimal but a few years ago they were everywhere at trials now I see b*gger all anywhere.
  4. Bit distant to riding/attending trials at the mo so apologies if this is common knowledge. Are Montesa making a new bike at all? Last I heard was of a 2 stroke. Is this rumour or have they said / done anything? Ta
  5. I've only used Galfer for about 20 years. Perfect all the way and O.E from factory
  6. Quality riding Emma. Well Done
  7. I'm on my way, cheers for the heads up! Also I know GG factory bikes use ATF as I've seen them doing both Gubian and Raga's bikes with it. Think GG UK might as well but not 100%. Might be an 'officially we use xxxxxx' but actually use ATF, kinda like when Jordi Tarres had Nolan painted on his obviously Shoei helmet.
  8. lol he's shocking. Go Burnicle, you the man!
  9. 'maybe' IF it was a minter maybe but dont even look that great.
  10. As someone who has posted on this topic against JB due to inane rambling and basic errors I have seen a few very good reasons why JB is OK. RAY WILKINS commentating on Sky Sports football. For the love of god is he really the next best thing to Andy Gray?? His knowledge oils obviously good but he is NOT a commentator so maybe having a trials expert as commentator is not such a good idea - although having a trials expert co-commentate still seems best bet to me. Sorry for bringing football onto the forum but thought it highlighted a good point : )
  11. You might want to ask about the 2011 Raga Rep before you ask about next years As for the 2011 nothing seen anywhere yet but am lead to believe it's a 'newer' (could mean anything) design to incorporate the 'radical' new rear shock by Reiger. Whether this is correct or not I do not know. I dont know if this shock has been tested enough (unless Doug has been doing lots behind the scenes) to make it onto the Gas Gas flagship model. Colourwise, I'd guess it will stay gold frame and similar to 2009 and 2010 models engine size, again I'd expect same as 2009 and 2010 : 250, 280, 300 UK due date, normally late May time with announcements in April so should be anytime soon for pics and announcements.
  12. Best way around it 'if' you're that way inclined... Get an official, full size numberplate , attach it correctly to your bike, when you have the correct holes etc in yourmudguard remove it the numberplate and snap the numberplate at the top. Then, whenever you are doing a road trial attach the bracket with the broken 'bit' of the numberplate on and if you do get pulled over at a trial you have a 'bit' of the regulation full size plate and bracket attached but had an unfortunate 'crash' in a section. You can show them the snapped bit in your pocket, bumbag, camelback etc etc. This is then all OK and above board, nothing canbe done as you will get a new plate ASAP on Monday morning when the shops open.
  13. Best answer you'll get and true! preventative maintenance
  14. They dont remind you the thieving scumbags! I filled mine in, posted it about a month ahead of time (about 2 years ago). 3 months later I get a snotty letter and a £80 fine. I then chased around the b*stard DVLA for hours and hours trying to find someone to talk to and explain that I had filled in the SORN. Everytime you think you can speak to the next person but you cant! It's all a MASSIVE swiss and I'm 100% that the thieving b*stards use it as a cash cow especially if you dont post your SORN recorded delivery. Since then I have not had a SORN reminder or a fine though. Best bet, post using recorded delivery and do as Bultaco does and put in a reminder every year to stop the robbing @rses from fleecing you.
  15. Really down to you, I know of some crazies that do it after every trial.... and some that do it every 6 months or so! I personally do it every 6-8 trials, but as mentioned really down to what you want to do. On a new bike I'd probably say every 3-4 trials but as it gets more run in the you can space out a bit more. What are you putting in / planning to use oil wise?
  16. If it says it contains x x and x but only ships with x and x then legally the supplying dealer is obligated to ship everything. You shouldn't even need to push hard. Sounds like a packing balls up
  17. Same here! Best option IMO is France. will be cheaper, more accessible and easier to go to France and they have a 2 day event there. Been to French rounds before and they are awesome with whole villages/towns closing down and fully welcoming the trials circus with open arms - cant see that happening in the UK If not you could look at making a holiday out of Spain and Andorra (think dates on front page must be wrong and Andorra is 26th June) by flying to Madrid and driving to trial (approx 150km) then fly from Madrid to Girona and drive to Andorra. Or alternatively just do Andorra (fly to Girona then drive 150km ish to Andorra) as they again totally throw the village/town at the event and run ace events. Even the Italian round is only 130ish km from Milan Airport although I've never been to an Italian round but again they look very well supported. I've actually driven from UK to Monza for F1 and its an AMAZING drive through France and Switzerland. Took about 15 hours to get from Calais to Milan and the Italian round is not as far as Milan! Lots of options open to the UK trials supporter at relatively low cost and probably similar cost that you would spend if you went to Scotland (at least if you live in Southern England..) Food for thought!
  18. Or you could just say..... Why has he left then?
  19. Will this be similar to the old ground that they had? i.e available for practise every day and then hosting monthly (or so?)trials?
  20. Simple Answer - No! I doubt it, but think CJB does an SSDT DVD
  21. They all do it even the most sorted Gassers rattle inc Raga's bike It's the clutch basket inside the casing and the engine vibration so they pretty much have to rattle.
  22. Not bought one but roade a gasser with one and held one in comparison to the standard. The weight saving is actually quite scary and more than you'd think and its definitely noticable when riding and sounds LOADS better too. Re: Price they were
  23. your rear tyre will be tubeless and front tubed (probably) regarding which is best. Again all depends on where you ride and how etc. Michelins are very good and seem to be the tyres of choice on rocks etc, so if you derby, yorkshire etc the Michelin all round is maybe best. The new X-Lite I believe is as grippy as the standard Michelin but seems very puncture prone. IRC are (IMO) better than the Michelins on the rear, but again depends where you ride. Where I ride there is no real rocky trials and the IRC grips amazing in the mud/ Dunlop never used and dont see that many being used (round here anyway) think (sure someone can confirm or correct) that lots of riders use them in Scotland for the 6 days trial cant remember why but think they stay on the rim when punctured. I ride Michelin on the front and IRC on the rears. As Des mentioned if you're at a new rider standard, chances are you wouldn't notice the difference. Michelin and IRC are similare in price (gone are the happy days when an IRC rear tyre was
  24. From reading this and the subsequent posts it appears that only yourself and Jack believe it was a 5. I'm not a rules expert, however as I understand it there are slightly different rules for ITWC (X Trial) to WTC. For example when they teeter on the edge of something and use both feet not only on the pegs but also to get up the obstacle. Outdoors I think that is a different call to indoors as is going up something, not making it, coming down, taking a dab, getting your feet up and trying again. I'm pretty sure that outdoors this is deemed a 5 but indoors it is NOT a 5 hence Bou got a 1. Dabill, went backwards and with both feet off the bike thus meaning he had only his hands on the bike and not having control over the bike at all. Bou went backwards then put one foot down with one on the peg and both hands on the bar, thus being in control of the bike. As you will have witnessed on one section where most riders put a foot down, lifted the front, then dropped off the top - in control. Pretty damn sure you couldn't try that with both feet off the pegs As per previous post you could nullify a lot of JB's ramblings with a co-commentator. JB as the professional commentator doing most of the filling the gaps (and hopefully talking less about the buildings architects and year it was built) and a co-commentator with trials and rider knowledge who could actually discuss what happened/will happen.
