I was an observer at the Wallace on another hard section, and was as consistent as I could be all day. I run my own buisness have two teenager daughters a full time working wife and try to help at my local club. I have never been so stressed for ages as I was for those few hours. 3 or four riders were very up set at my decisions and the reasons are simple; 1) we have ridden stop allowed so long that people have forgotten a momentary pause is a five, if marked exactly to the letter 2) Each observer will choose his own standards (I know I felt obliged to explain that a nose wheelie would be a 5 if the front wheel stopped) and I felt a leaway should be give to hopping the front wheel in a forward direction (the section was tight). 3) each observer was able to choose his own "momentary pause" In my section Sam Connor was very much no stop as was Alexz, they were riding to "my rules" and may have got the benefit of the doubt on a step Sam more than wiggy but not a stop imho. Now here is the problem, at the BTC both riders and observers will have to have a demo rider do a demo section or there will be massive arguments as to whether riders actually stop or not. THIS MUST BE DONE or the BTC will descend into one big long argument and the BIG IDEA (no stop) will ruin the championship before its started.

Trying to do what precisly. There is a big difference between what is sustainable (think you didnt mean that word) and why the wtc is having problems in getting larg entries, but who said you must have 30 plus riders? Times change sections are incredibly difficult and only a few can manage them, but this is the same in Spain Italy and France aswell. From the meeting at the ACU it was clear that pretty much every top rider is against no stop. If its such a good idea then why not the ladies and the youth british champs aswell?

Its called progression of the sport. Even btc level there are only 10 who can do the top route, and the ssdt no longer attracts the worlds best, sadly. Craic at the scott? Dont think so.

Fixation on reeds after not trying what others who have experience of Bultos above will get you no where. Comparing a modified Yam with a standard Bulto is like comparing an enduro bike with a motocrosser.

Name one rider who will participate at the top level if the rules went no stop?

What changes would you make to increase participation at the very top level? Name one rider who would participate with these changes.

This person is fictitious, just the same as at any top level of sport does any newby think they can tripple that whoop section, finish the romanics alongside taddy,drive an F1 car to the limit, have the ability to beat a nadal serve, canoe through a slalem course and so on? no of course not so why is no stop going to sell one more bike? I actually believe when riders start off that a five every time they stop momentarily mainly through nerves is a bigger turn off.

The cost is an issue, agreed. Bou is getting older but the next 3 are much older and there are real podium places up for grabs for our British lads. I meant that whatever rules you have there are never going to be more than 25 who can ride the top route period.

i personally spoke to taddy in poland in his first year at enduros and it was indeed costs/funding that was his main motivator to turn his hand to enduros. This played right to him insomuch that as he started the extreme enduros where becoming more prevelent and more importantly paying.

I really disagree with this analysis. The lower classes were added when younger riders needed a stepping stone to reach the next level. The top route has increased in severity which has made the numbers willing/able to attempt it dramatically reduced. I think doug is riding maybe only 90 % of when he was at his best, but certainly much much better than when he was 19. The problem here is that too many,and gomez is the latest of a long line,gibert oliveras bethune morris connor and so on, are capable of the top route but have fallen by the wayside. i have no problem with the feeder classes this happens in many sports. The fim need to find a way to keep those who can, in the sport at the top level. The numbers are a side issue, 25/30 is plenty for a quality championship, 10 is not.
