Which year for an older Beta 250
Defo go for condition over age. Personally having bought a supposedly well looked after bike from a decent source. Unless you're really clued up on these things I'd recommend you up your budget and get a much newer bike as you can easily spend a fortune on bits for a shiny turd

Look at the back of the engine/ gearbox casing on the flywheel/ sprocket side.- Funny!

It's a good point. Anybody see that article and video on the bbc site last week about the cycle trials guy from Scotland? Skillful but a good trials man is equally impressive yet very little recognition compared to this guy.- Beta Rev3 Knocking :(

Coolant is generally better at dissipating heat than water. Plus the right stuff will contain additives which won't cause corrosion in the way water might.- Bring Back Kickstart, On Facebook!

Just a thought, but have you checked your car insurance. Mine covers me Third Party only for any vehicle I'm licensed to drive/ ride so long as I have the owners permission.- Stolen Bike
I have access to a system the motor trade use for doing vehicle look ups for makes and models. Ran it through, nothing coming up which is odd, but does sometimes happen. Coca Cola- Leaking Fuel And Clutch/ Gearbox Issues
Not sure about the fuel and fluid issues. It's normal for the clutch to drag when first started. Just keep doing what you are doing or place the front wheel against a wall or something that won't move easily, pull the clutch in, rev the engine a bit engage a gear and let the clutch out.- North Yorks Newbie
