Still sorting all the little jobs on the M91 I have been rebuilding for months and months, and now another project gets added to the list. A 1974 Sherpa with Homerlite tank, all there (or so it seems) with the usual tank and seat separation! Sadly this one is a long way down the list (5th I think).

[Just thought id let you chaps and chapess's see the fruit of my latest project  . You may recall i had this imported from Spain and arrived wrapped in bubble wrap. It's Merlin DG350 Gallach replica. It was named after thier main man , just like Sherco made the Cabastany replica. Ive made clear spacers for the rear wheel to make it ACU legal and plan to ride is shortly when im not riding enduro. The hardest part was trying to get a good job done by the chromers on the exhaust. They said they specialised in restoration projects but I had to return it twice to be repolished and chromed. The engine on this is really strong with muchio compression. The fiberglass seat and tank unit had to be rubbed down to the matting (because of fractures) and re gelcoated. It was a hell of a job. I even had Gallach replica decals made up or the tank and throttle top. All to match the origionals. I spent lot of time on it and Im really pleased with the result ... its a bit unusual isnt it.

That bike looks ace mate! wouldn't mind one myself!!! are they only avalible in spain? when you said about fitting spacers to the rear wheel dont you have to do the front as well? dosen't make sense to me, As these bikes were used in world trials did they use wheel spacers then?

Hola Mr Greeves

As a M49 rider (with the round engine cases, 1968) I became courious about your "powerful" brakes...

What brakes are you using?

My front brake is ok, but I would not say it is powerful, needs all finger and pull strongly to slow the 100 kg down.

Any hint or source for Bultaco front brakes is welcome.

Regards

Patrick

I seriously need to take the ability to mess about with fonts away from users...

Thanks for the photos rcGods. Shots of these bikes being used back in the good old days are hard to find . Here is one other one i have.

Big John ,

Id love to ride the Robregordo trial in May. I saw the review of it in the classic bike mag. Ive got a few extentions to build , so it may have to wait - - - the extentions , that is - ha ha

Without doubt this is my favourite bike to ride. I find it better to ride for me

than the Fantic 240 i have . That might be going soon.

Can anybody recommend any zinc plating firms? I want to get my gear lever, kickstart lever etc done.Any idea of cost anybody? Cheers

Rod Gibson of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics uses a firm called Simms in Halifax 01422 305340, the quality looks good and he wouldn't use them if they were rubbish
