June 27, 201610 yr In the days leading up to the EU Referendum I noticed quite a few comments on Facebook from trials riders indicating which way they'd vote. Interestingly there seemed to be massive support for Brexit. This I found surprising as it contradicted predictions of a win for the Remainers. Anyway, now that the voting's over and we're all trying to come to terms with the devastating implications of a Brexit win, how will British trials be affected? Well, for a start, as the pound crashes against the euro, trials bikes and equipment manufactured in Europe will immediately become more expensive. This will have a knock on effect of pushing up prices of used machines and maybe even forcing a few European manufacturers out of business. I notice that GasGas has recently re-emerged from the brink of collapse with a fine new product - they must now be worried sick due to the difficulties they now face in marketing their bikes in the UK. And what of the many UK bike shops specialising in trials? Well, their prospects don't seem good. It's a dwindling sport and their goods have just become more expensive. It's going to be even harder now to attract youngsters to trials. And youngsters is what the sport needs. But it ain't going to happen. Alas, I fear that the Brexit vote is yet another nail in the trials coffin.

However, as European friends, I think some (or a lot) people (and especially the elderly) think a little bit too much of the UK. There is plenty of other countries. I hope the brexit will be perfomed in a sort of shaved way, not changing much. And I hope it will not backfire on the UK, but I am affriad for you guys it will...
June 27, 201610 yr Im definately taking in a euro trial before the regulations change. I think getting bikes in and out of europe may not be so easy, and the french instead of stop and talk may take a different attitude. Conversly i got a driving infringement fine in English from Milan last year sent to my home address. Wondering whether to pay or not.
June 27, 201610 yr We can be pessimistic about this like the first post or we could even make equally optimistic predictions. My personal view is that there will be little if any impact on trials in the UK.

The way I see it: You go on a holiday with 10 mates, some like cycling others dont, some like walking etc. You end up sitting on the beach drinking beers with your mates because thats the **** you have in comming. You can go alone on holiday and do the things you like, but well you will be drinking alone... It aint perfect, but leaving is imo a much worse scenario. Edited June 27, 201610 yr by crazybond700
June 27, 201610 yr Riding a trial yesterday near Cognac, completely driven mad buy this Brexit nonsense..Every bloody rider wanted to give me their opinion. After lots of pontificating and shrugging of shoulders, its seems they Frenchies I know, are happy.... as sterling has dived and the bits they buy in the Uk for their classic bikes will be cheaper. Happy days... In motion, should now be out motion....
June 27, 201610 yr What kills me that is that 52% to 48% 'popular' vote now swings these sorts of things. Major shifts in political trajectories occurring, essentially leaving half the populace p****d regardless of which way things go. I don't think that's a very tenable position to be in anywhere, and it's certainly not the only place it occurs.
June 27, 201610 yr I tend to agree with Baldilocks but, as the subject has been raised; the price of bikes and bits might be totally irrelevant - how long will your favourite local farmer survive if the UK Government chooses not to replicate EU subsidies.....................

Now here's a different scenario: You go on holiday with 27 mates, some like cycling others don't, some like walking etc etc You all end up sitting on the beach, yourself and 9 others of the group contribute various amounts of cash to buy beer for everyone, due to financial circumstances the other 18 couldn't contribute to the kitty. The next morning you wake, count up the bottles and find that the 18 have drank more than their fare share. Because everyone seems to have had a great holiday, you all make a pact to do the same again next year and every year after that. After about 40 years you declare to the group that you won't be coming next year as you have decided to go on holiday on your own for a change, the other 27 members try to convince you that you'll be lonely and will have to drink on your own You reply to them, "lonely? you must be joking, where I'm going, there's 17 million folk who feel the same way as I do and with the cash I'll save from having to chip in every year for the extra beer, I'll be able to afford an extra days holiday Edited June 27, 201610 yr by ourian
June 27, 201610 yr If the price of euro bikes and parts do become more expensive due to the our exit from the eu maybe some dealers could ruduce the margins on some parts to offset this ( you know who you are ) Ive recently discovered the mark up on some items and is borderline just an out and out rip off
