May sound like a strange question, but I’m sure lots of you will be able to answer it for me! Does anybody what the triangular alloy plate with the large hole is for? It is riveted onto the front of the Airbox and looks like it has been added by a previous owner. I’m thinking of taking it off but before I do I wondered why it was there. many thanks

Hello purchased a rather snotty looking 77 ty250 last week up in Nova Scotia, Canada. Have started the tear down process and it has been coming apart amazing well. Have the motor and everything but the headstock off the frame as of now. Just the two bolts for the rear fender snapped into the frame. It seems to be all there parts wise, should clean-up well. Wondering on just the usual stuff that should be looked into that has proven to be problematic through the years? Suggestions for parts in Canada? Have found parts sites in Britain and France and in the States. Have removed the autolube for the oil tank sight glass was cracked Have cleaned the carb and flushed …

I've been bothering you guys on this forum for the past six months with questions about my TY. Things are coming along nicely and I am about to start doing the part that seems more interesting to most people, i.e. the cosmetics. Yesterday I did a trial fit of the WES exhaust system. I have been documenting this build in my blog. Take a look for better higher resolution pictures and a bit of commentary. Below is a shot of the exhaust meditativemachinery Mike

Hi all, so? Ty80 forks were knackered so in the usual spirit of repair rather than source a replacement which are often as knackered as the ones I've got i sent them off for Re chrome, straighten and rebuild with new seals. It took months to get them back, so all looked good till the first ride and son says they are locking? They are not moving up and down? When completely compressed back in the garage they knock side to side so I diagnose worn bushes, are these still available and from previous threads I see you can remove the spring clip and slidehammer the whole lot out? But there's a screw in the bottom of the fork leg which I thought held the whole lot together? I d…

Guys, So after getting my parts back from Millenium Technologies- new bore on Ebay cylinder and new piston- I noticed quite a bit of vibration. So today I tore it down again and weighed the new piston, pin, upper end bearing and compared those weights to the ones on the original parts. As I expected, the new piston was significantly heavier than the old original piston, even though the piston size was still the same. Old Piston 213 gm New piston 241gm a delta of 28 grams. Old pin 57 gm New pin 60 gm delta of 3 grams The remainder of the parts were too light to measure on the scales I borrowed, so I am forced to ignore those …

Happy new year to you all, hope its a good one ! Having a couple of issues with my sons "new" Ty80, the main one being that it feels like the throttle is sticking open after reasonably large throttle openings when the engine gets up to temp.I've proved that the throttle isnt actually sticking. It has a brand new, freshly oiled venhill cable and I fitted a really strong return spring as an experiment. When the engine carries on revving you can close the throttle completely then when you start to open it again you can feel it pulling the slide open right from the bottom. This leads me to think it must be pulling in air elsewhere, perhaps around the reed block, main seals etc.Any…

Hello all again ,not really a problem but ive never seen this before, and hope someone can help , the float bowl bottom drain nut on my recently aquired TYZ has been drilled and a pipe connection brazed to it, then a length of 1/4 " hose connected and run down past the gear box sprocket and the end of the pipe sealed with a bung, With the obvious result that if the bung is removed fuel runs straight out. I intend to run run the hose up higher than the float chamber so this wont happen . The bike also has paint dashes on casings etc so I suspect it may have been thrashed in the Scott or even the Scottish but that carb mod doesnt make any sense to me or do you think it may …

I am currently looking at a late 80's TY and have had no luck locating any maintenance or parts manuals(microfiche acceptable) for the air-cooled monoshock years on this side of the pond(Canada US) and was wondering if anyone could direct me to a shop or someone that has these manuals available. Please forward any information and contact details to dirtmudnroost@yahoo.ca Cheers

Restored a TY80 for my son last winter. Recently, it has developed a puzzling little problem. It starts up and runs fine when cold, but after it is warmed up, if it is shut off for a short break (or he stalls), it will not fire back up again. Kicking, choke, no choke, bump-starting, throttle, no throttle, nothing works! After sitting for a half an hour or so however, it will then fire right back up again. Any thoughts on what I should be looking at first? I was wondering about the condenser; if bad, would it create a symptom like that? One other question, do you know what the proper torque setting is for the cylinder head nuts? I'm thinking maybe loose head? Acco…

Hello all. I'm happy to have found this site. I have done some reading and you all seem like smart people with a large base of knowledge regarding the world of Trials. I have a question and some pictures. I have always been very interested in Trials. Especially vintage trials. I'm 28 but I grew up around vintage trials, motocross and vintage racing all of my life. My dad was a big time Motocross rider before I was born. I got to see a lot of his pictures and sit on a lot of his bikes. Anywho. That's besides the point. I picked up what I believe is a 1975 Honda TL250 from a guy for a great price. It was mostly complete so I figure I can't go wrong with this thing. I've …

Me and my dad recently acquired a old Ty80b, and after cleaning it up we are now stuck because we don't know what oil we should use and where to put it. The bike needs oil for the transmission, we *think* that we need to use 80w gear oil, but we don't know. Then their is a small oil tank that sits under the seat, and we don't know what to put in it. We can't tell what was in it originally, but in the transmission we found ATF fluid. I have asked around and their's no trend, so when I went to the internet everything there was also conflicting. So if you know, or have an idea on what I should use I'd love to hear it. Thank you.

What is the difference between the original Majestys and the new ones you can buy now? As I understand it the new ones are built using NOS frames from John Shirt and most other bits are TY. Did the original ones have the fibreglass tank or were they alloy?
