I used to browse the French ForumTY.com before (translated), but now I cant access the topics as it requires a login. I cant seem to get the gist of registering to this site, it seems it requires a Paypal donation or such? Am I reading this right and this is the intention, as the google translator is at times vague?

Hi Further to my recent post - I'm making progress with some of the major parts needed. As far as I can make out these Japanese spec bikes had a conventional instrument binnacle and a battery box, has any one out there got a fully specced version of one of these or a good scource of pictures - I really need to know which bits are missing and what they look like (part numbers etc). I'm building the bike for light road use and to do some green lane days so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Tim

I have a TY80 I bought for my son. It's in nice shape cosmetically, burns clean, starts great, and has *lots* of mid range power; ticks like a watch at idle too. But throttle response from idle/low RPM to maybe 2,000 RPM is lackluster at best; it feels like the idle jet is off a bit or the throttle slide cutout is too big. The jets are clean. But before I start messing with changing out carb parts I thought I should see what tuning advice this community has to offer. I'd love to hear any general TY80 tuning tips, but I'll start with some specific questions: Should I be expecting snappy off idle response out of a 80cc bike made in the 70s? I mean it works as is, but I w…

Hi all Apologies for my first post if it's in the wrong section. I am wondering if the crankshaft seals can be replaced on a TY175 with the engine in situ, or is it necessary to split the cases? Any hints or tips would be gratefully received. Alan

Is the 52500 marked clutch cover the only one that will fit a TY175? I found that the same gasket fits a RT100 so bought one off of Ebay but it is about 10 mm wider. It is also 10 mm wider at the kick shaft area so would at least require a longer kick shaft. https://ibb.co/f2vnmJ6

Sorry all, I know this fault has been spoken about before but was just wondering if somebody could just give me a little more info. My TY175 cuts out when hot, no spark, i have noticed it will not cause any problems on a cold day, but on a warm day after a few sections it will just cut out,let it cool for 5 mins and then your away again. So far i have replaced the HT coil, the wiring, points and condenser. Its the ignition source coil which i have some doubts about.I have measured the resistance and its about 1.8 ohms cold and rises to about 3 ohms when you heat it up with a hair dryer. Not sure what else there is to check but somebody did suggest that the condenser although n…

Hi I have been thinking about building a Mini Majesty for some time, and have the TY parts that I need. Is the Mini Majesty frame smaller than a standard TY175? (and suitable for an adult rider?) Does it really make much difference to the handling characteristics? By how much should the swinging arm be extended? Has anyone had any problems with building one, or issues with owning it?

The bad news came this morning, I need a 3rd OS piston ( and ring ) for my 250 Mono. I didn't find one and I am told an IT ( or YZ ) or a TS piston would fit with modif made to the cylinder and head. Quite a few post are scratching the subject, but if someone as done the job with good result I would apreciate the details. Of course my first choise would be a 3rd os TY but ... I also will change the rod , but replacement is avalable. There are 2 different type of IT piston, the one with the '' arche '' is suppose to be beter but wear faster. I don't realy use the last bit of power of the bike since I am an average rider. So TS or IT and if IT, withc one choose? A couple…

I have just bought a very original 1974/75 434 Ty and whilst it has a few little jobs to be done, the carb is one issue. Is it worth trying to resurrect the original TK carb or is it as people in the day seemed to agree , just get the correct Mikuni. What was wrong with the original, Yamaha even then, didn t seem to get it wrong. Thanks

I have just been reading an item in a book called The world of motorcycles about Mick Andrews, printed in 1977. A bit of history etc about his trials riding up to that date. At the end it says he is helping to develope a 4 stroke trials bike with Yamaha which will be popular in a few years. Anybody shed any light on this? Thanks.

Hi, Searching for a work shop in the UK who offers the same knowlegde and machining as B&J Racing US. Need to optimise my squish band and port the cylinder. Im even interested of data for correct squish and head cc, so I can send it to a work shop closer to home. About porting, guess only encreasing width gives benefits. My TY250R-84 set up Engine Boyesen #663 Sammy pipe Tot rebuilt engine Pilot 44(have tested 35 and 40, but RON105 dont cover the pinging)The marks on ign.plate/crank case matches.
