I`m just going over a TY80 that I got for my kids to learn trials and have a couple of questions about some of the things of how they work. The first thing I want to know about is the rear brake pedal. Its seems to either be hitting the engine casing when not being used, or hitting the small angled bar that comes off the frame when trying to use the brake. There isnt a lot of room for travel, so whats the angled bar for ???? Whats its purpose ?? The other thing I want to know about is how the rear brake set up is meant to be, The way its set up is, having the thin rod connecting from the back of the brake pedal to the actuating lever on the rear wheel over the top of…

i have a yam ty250 1984 i am 13 years old and find it quite heavy and would like a newer bike but i absolutly love my TY its an extremly fun bike and does ok in trials plus it never breaks like newer models do! does anyone else have one of these bikes? cya richard longstaff

Here is a picture of my Yamaha Pinky which I recently bought, it's in pretty good nick I suppose just cleaned it down and slapped some stickers on it. It's a jumpy buggar though, as soon as you turn the throttle the power is instantly there, almost enough to catch you if you're off guard, anyone know how I could make it a little bit safer?

Hi all i have a TY250 1984 bike. the kick start lever hits the clutch case when starting the bike. this has left an indent in the case which iam sure will split. surely there should be a stop somewhere? i cannot see where it should go or where i could fit one. any suggestions thanks andyh

I picked up a 1977 Yamaha TY175 recently and the bike works fantastic. Rode my first vintage trials last Sunday and it never missed a beat. The one thing I am not happy about is the stock silencer. All is intact, but it just seems too loud. I repacked it before the event on Sunday and it seemed a bit better at first, but by halfway thru the event it seemed too loud again. I checked the packing this evening and it was fine. Is there anyway to repack the stocker to make it quieter? Or should I look at one of the aftermarket systems? And if so, which one?

Someone told me you could get a boost bottle for a yam 175 that goes between the carb and reed valve which gives it some more oomph is this true? and if so where can i get one from and are they any good and how hard are they to fit? cheers

Hi all, I´m not a TY guy (had a used mono in about 1990). Theres a red and white 1977 twin shock TY 350 for sale and I didn´t ever hear of there being a 350 one. The seller says it has registration documents where it says TY250 but he´s got a pic of the barrel that say´s 350 (351 cc exactly). It´s not cheap as he want´s 1250,00 Euros and its a non runner thats been standing outside with rust on the forks etc. etc. Any information about the 350 from 1977 would be interesting !

hello all, I have just bought a ty 175 for twinshock trials with the local club. after some shed time and research time, the bike has the following faults: * autolube has been removed, leaving the autolube pipe unplugged and hanging off the carb * exhaust baffle had been squashed closed in a vice * a piece of sponge as an air filter * blow by on the piston when viewed from the exhaust port * although it did run ok, the bike refuses to idle unless the choke is on / idle screw removed and hole blocked with finger * what appeard to be play on brake side rear wheel bearing, but was play between brake drum and wheel. I keep coming back to the idea of replacing the stock right-side crankcase cover with a single-piece unit from a YZ or IT. I've seen pictures of bikes with this mod and love the clean look. A while back I found some info on this but could not currently locate the thread. I remember that, as the YZ/IT motors changed, one model's cover was a direct fit while others needed to be modified (JB welded and filed - I've never had great results with JB weld). Has anyone out there done this modification? Does anyone know which model of YZ or IT would bolt right on? Thanks,

My 1985 TY250 has always (well for the year that I've had it anyway) been really hard to turn over on the kickstart - and I'm not a little lad either! The mains and conrod were rumbling, so I've stripped and replaced them and the seals etc ........... and now it's even more difficult to turn over! I was turning it over by hand (using the clutch) as it was being assembled - that was until I fitted the head and spark-plug - so it's free enough. If I take the spark-plug out it's OKAY; but put the plug back in and it's like a diesel to crank over. I don't know if it's a TY piston - as it was rebored previous to me buying it - but the piston doesn't foul the head or the s…

I am just about to finish the rebuild of my TY175 engine, have had it bored and tightened the piston to cylinder clearance up, I intend careful running in and hope the better piston fit will quiten down the noisy engine. question is, has anyone experience with using a better quality oil to help prevent a seizure whilst piston is fully run in, I was thinking of Castrol A747 or XR77 just for the first ten or so hours of running (it also has new mains) any recommendations appreciated, ps I then intend running it on Castrol TTS (after flushing the castor based oil out of course).

This tank just came up for sale and the guy only wants 100 bucks for it. i was thinking of it as a spare but i am out of my depth in assessing the rust damage on the underside of the tank. the seller says it has pin holes leaks and will need work but i think it looks in ok condition other than the outside rust? if that rust went all the through then would it need to be welded and would this strip off the last of that nice paint? Hi everyone, I'm having trouble trying to date my ty 250 mono. Engine and frame numbers match and start with 53Y. I've noticed on all the pics I've seen of ty 250 monos that they have a long 'rubber' tube leading from the carby to the airbox (plastic?). Mine has a short tube leading to a fibreglass airbox.
