  1. Started by mmmexico,

I've been bothering you guys on this forum for the past six months with questions about my TY. Things are coming along nicely and I am about to start doing the part that seems more interesting to most people, i.e. the cosmetics. Yesterday I did a trial fit of the WES exhaust system. I have been documenting this build in my blog. Take a look for better higher resolution pictures and a bit of commentary. Below is a shot of the exhaust meditativemachinery Mike

  2. Started by badmotofo,

My forks have been apart for a couple of months and I am not positive how the front fork is reassembled. Could someone confirm? Right now I have the damper inside the slider and extending through the bottom of the slider. The small spring and aluminum cap are then put onto the damper and the unit is inserted into the outer fork. I tried it with the small spring inside the slider but the slider would dig into the aluminum cap. Thanks,

Hi all just fitted a keihin carb on my ty,the bike runs OK but could be better.Has any one else done this mod and what jets did you use.

  5. I've recently bought a TY175 that has what I believe to be an (early) Majesty frame, with the frame modifications (upper shock mountings, lower frame/bash plate) found on these. It's been yellow, overpainted silver, so I'm sure that I'll be able to get at enough of the original (?) yellow paint to get a colour match done at a paint specialist. If I do, I'll post the results here. Meanwhile, does anybody know what shade of yellow was used? I've already posted that Paul Cowley, of Shedworks, uses RAL1003, Signal Yellow, for the yellow replica components he makes. And does anyone know who did the original paint finish on the Majesty frames? Thanks. John

I'm currently doing up a 1977 TY250 twinshock. I'm really pleased with the engine and steering but I've been considering moving the rear shock in a more laid down position like the majesty (I don't see the point in modifying the frame to getting more clearance etc). Can anyone give some advice to how to do this? Dimensions etc? I have a nice pair of Rockshocks at 340mm (standard) at the moment, would repositioning it mean I would need a shorter shock? Any help would be really appreciated.

Hi All, Nearly finished my Majesty and I am in two minds what exhaust to use Option 1 WES center box with no rear silencer Option 2 two part WES system but by the looks of it it will need cutting and welding on therear silencer. Option 3 refub the original system I will ride the bike when done so performance is a factor. your opinions welcome Regards Scorpa250

My TY 175 is progressing nicely. I have read on this forum the mixed results that people have had with the Electrix World system. Some have said some very nice things, others have had no luck and everyone seems to agree that they are not especially communicative with their customers. In my case, I sent several e-mails and none received any response at all. When I ordered an "electronic ignition" from an American source, the Electrix World unit arrived. So...that's what I am using. The unit appears to be very well made, but as you can see from the photograph, the unit just doesn't quite match up, so I'm going to have to be doing some grinding with my Dremel tool on the en…

Hi all, My brother in Australia just purchased a TY with 125 stickers on it. Frame number 5890047-- and engine number is just 589, nothing following. Bore is 66mm so guessing it's a 175 bore. . I have searched the id tables but can't find a model 589. Anyone any ideas what year this may be? And should it be a 125? Thanks!!

  13. Started by metisse,

I have a friend with a mint original TY 125 looking world wide for a mirror ( Round, chrome and stem ) . He has had no luck sourcing in France, could anybody point us/him in the direction, preferbly the Uk, if not further afield. Apparently these were particular to the Ty range unless anybody knows different. Thanks

  14. Started by macduff,

Hi there. I've recently picked up an 85 TY250 mono and I'm thinking about putting a disc conversion to the front end. I've trawled ebay but there's nothing kicking about. Can anyone recommend a particular conversion or solution and where i can get one from. Reading between the lines the disc and drums are pretty much the same in the dry but I live in Scotland and not afraid to get wet so hopefully the difference in wet conditions would be worth the conversion. Cheers.

Now I dont know if this has been done before but would it be possible to take my 96 yz250 and mount all the parts onto a beta/sherco style trials frame. I want the low frame and maneuverability and the a yz is what I have to work with. I just want to know what I would be getting myself into or if there is someone out there that has converted a bike into a trails setup

  18. Started by cuzzy,

Hi all New owner of a TY here with a quick question. The bike has had its oil tank removed and all the connections to the pump removed also but the pump is still in place, in the box of spares which came with the bike is a new oil pump blank from TY spares so my question is can I just remove the pump and fit the blanking plate or are there drive mechanisms inside the engine that have to be removed prior to fitting the plate. Regards Cuzzy

  19. I am in the middle of assembling crankcase halves for my TY 175. Because the guy who owned it before me only used one dowel when he re-assembled the crankcase last time, I did not realize (until just now) that a needed two of the things for the upper and lower mounting points. I noticed when I was trial fitting the dowel to the lower mount that it fit snugly and would seem to do a good job of reducing vibration. However on the upper mount, it was so loose as to be apparently useless. Are there two sizes of dowels? Are there two sizes of O-Rings?? For pictures or to follow the restoration of this bike, take a look at my blog at http://meditarivemachinery.blogspot.com/ …

Trying to remove the piston from my front forks. I believe I need to hold the top of the piston while unbolting from the bottom. My 175 has a stub and I customized a socket to hold it. The 250, as well as I can see, has no stub and my tool does nothing. Does anyone know a good method to hold the top of the piston? Thanks,
