I picked up a 74 model 250 a few months ago from an ad on OfferUp. The ad made it sound like it just needed an air filter and a quickdusting off but after an hour and a half drive I found a badly neglected bike missing lots of parts and a seized up top end, no paperwork and the back wheel was locked up even though the chain was missing. I reluctantly gave the seller a few bucks and dragged the bike into the van. I hate returning empty handed in these cases. When I got it home I tried removing the cylinder but it was welded onto the piston. I could see that the crank was not seized but it was going to take some serious punishment from the cylinder removal process. Aft…

Does anybody know if the crank and cases from a TY250A are interchangeable with later ones like a TY250B or C ? I know the clutch and clutch cover are different but dont know if the rest is different or interchangeable.

Haynes manual says to remove packing (fibreglass) and 'discard'. Any thoughts? Will I have to re-jet the carb? I have removed the oil pump from my competition machine. Haynes manual says I (may) have to increase the jet sizes 5 to 10% "to allow for passage of the oil, or the engine will be running weak at all throttle openings". Chapter 2, section 12.9. Probably going to run synth @ 50:1. I find this doubtful, any thoughts? Jonny.

Hello, I picked up a TY250A twin shock a while ago for fun. Picked it up for only US$125. Runs like a dream, needed some TLC but that's part of the fun. I feel that the 14/53 sprockets have it geared too high for trials, OK for trail. I plan to change the front and see that Sunstar makes both 12 and 13 teeth options. What does anyone recommend? I ride Novice to Intermediate. Also, do I need to remove the left side cover to change the sprocket?

So I'm fixing/upgrading a few things on the 250. Brake arm bracket is missing on the current swingarm so decide to replace it with a spare from my parts bike. Nut came off fairly easy, bolt will turn with a wrench with no problem. Absolutely will not budge (sideways)(I have beat on it with a hammer). There is quite a bit of play in the swingarm so my guess is that there is a groove cut in the bolt. Any suggestions on how to get the bolt out ... or the swingarm off? Thanks in advance. Alan

I have a 1976 TY250. It's missing the heat shield '250' decal and I have not been able to find one to purchase. My plan is to create this decal – it is white on clear. As my bike is currently stored away from my house, I'm asking to see if someone can measure the heat shield decal area on the heat shield – specifically the height. I believe the heat shield is the same on all models (though I may be wrong). I plan on making a bunch if anyone else needs one. I believe the same decal is used on the left-side plastic cover. Thanks,

On turning the fuel tap on I noticed petrol pouring out of the carburettor breather pipe at the bottom of the carburettor? Is this because the needle and seat is not shutting off?
