Cos it has been such a grot day and too wet to do firewood,I got a pass out - spent the afternoon building up my second ty250 twinshock. Now I dont need a second bike the same but was fed up with shuffling boxes of bits around the workshop floor.Cant make up my mind wether to go ahead with the XT225 electric start conversion or to just flog it.Really like the idea of a proper four stroke Yam - plus I get a complete spare 250 motor for my other bike. Anyway my question is,the bike has no log book but the frame/engine numbers are clearly visible. Is it possible to get an age related plate for it,as I read a while ago that the frame numb…

I bought a TY80 for nephew. I got it running like a top but still have one problem, the clutch is frozen. I know it's not uncommon for a bike that been sitting to have the clutch plates freeze up. I tried riding it in first and second gear with the clutch pulled and then I would stand on the rear brake. It didn't work. After about 10 attempts I figured I see if anyone has a tip for freeing the clutch without pulling the case cover. If I do pulling the engine cover I assume the oil pump has to be removed to fully pull the case cover. How hard is it to pull the oil pump and are there any pitfalls to avoid? Thanks for the input.

I understand it is possible to up grade to electronic ignition. What is the general feeling with regards this mod ie. Price, avaliability and performance enhancement and above all reliability. Also I have, I presume the standard flywheel weight, I would like a little more sharpness on the pick up . Without discarding completely what is best considered weight or size. Any help would be greatly recieved as recently traveled many many miles to a trial, only to fail at the first section with electric problems , was so peeved I nearly bought a Honda.......

I bought a Ty175 a few months ago, it felt very underpowered so after checking I took it for a re-bore, it turns out it wasnt a 175 but a 125. I took it back to the dealers where i bought it and they were great, it took a couple of weeks but they got me a 175 barrel and head, and had it re-bored for me. Now i've put it all back together it just not running right. It doesnt want to rev in gear and its not to keen on revving out of gear, the carb was set up for a 125 so i've changed the main jet back to 175 size (240), the only way i can get it to rev somewhere near what it should is to remove the air filter and even the air filter box lid, putting either back seems to re…

Does anyone know if the tyz250/Scorpa engine shares parts with any of Yamaha's non-trials models? I am specifically looking for clutch plates. I am hoping I can find those parts at the local Yamaha dealer (USA), where my sister works. Thanks for your help.

Bought my twinshock ty250 off Ebay back in the summer, lovely looking bike - shot engine. No problem,I thought - have it apart and do a full rebuild and then I'll have a reliable bike that I can ride for a few years with no worries.Built it up with new mains, seals, big end, rod, small end, bore to +1mm,piston + rings. It rattles, more than I think it should. What I would like to know is are there any special tricks to stopping it rattling. The parts came from Hursts, the barrel was bored to the bottom tolerance and I spent a long time with swiss files on the ports making a good radius on each edge.I built up the crank and straig…
