I have a '74 Montesa Cota 247. I have owned it for approximately 28 years. After many years of mediocre service, my Amal carb began to give me serious problems at my last trials event. I am running with the stock Amal carb (rebuilt, in great condition). At the previously mentioned event, the throttle response deteriorated rapidly as the sections clicked by. It took longer and longer for the revs to fall as the day went on. It was not a hot day. By the third loop, I could barely maintain "3's" and control the bike, as the lingering revs would propel me MUCH farther into a turn than I anticipated. I am aware of the consequences of over tightening the carb flange mou…

Probably been asked loads of times but... Got the trials bug again after a long absence, have a 5 year old beta evo I've just started riding again but the twinshock scene is pretty decent where I live so want to get a competitive twin shock, got a budget of £2k but looks like the bikes I'm after won't come in at that budget! Was after a fantic or ty175 but both look over my budget, have seen a few ty250 for around £1500, which are about a grand cheeper than the fantics or ty175's, are the 250's that much worse?! Or shud I just stump up the extra grand? Or are there any other alternatives out there for a competetive twinshock?

I am acutally posting this for my father who owns four greeves. Three all angelicans and a pioneer??? He rides AHMRA trials series. Either way he has an orginal 19" tire on one of the angelicans. His others were converted to 18" ers. He is trying to find a 19 incher without going to a knobby mx tire. After much surfing I am comming up with nothing. Preffereably not a cheng sheng. Any body know of 19 by 4.00's out there? Europeans do not hesitate to answer. He is located in New York. Thanks in advance --Biff

Here is a few pictures of my latest project bike that I got on Saturday. It's a BSA bantam D10 that I'm making it in to a Trials bike to use in Pre 65/twinshock competitions. Firstly I will need to source and Engine, hopefully a 175cc, 4 speed. Here is what I have done so far: The bike as I got it: Most of the un needed tin work removed: Year 2000 Sherco front end fitted: Longer rear shocks, well, one, fitted: And thats it so far, Will update the thread as and when things get done. Thanks for looking, Jamie. (I have stuck this in twinshock as the bike uses modern forks, thus it isn't a "true" pre 65 bike in some peoples eyes, don't want to start t…

  11. Thought I'd post this here rather than Monty section as most t/s's run drums. Bloody odd this. Front brake creaks when applied when stationary and the lever feels spongy. The drum lining isn't split which was my first thought. Stripped the brake down and still does it...bit of a strange one? When moving the brake works ok but is still spongy. Any ideas welcome no matter how bizzare

Can someone explain to me if there's such a thing as a recognised British twin shock championship? I've heard of the normandale rounds and the Sammy miller series. What's the difference in the two series regards in severity, roadwork etc?

Just spotted this. Why oh why do this to a Bultaco 199B? link I'm stunned! Seeing as a nice 199B made 2500 gbp on evilbay recently I'm wondering what this will make now. Nowhere near the value of an unbutchered 340 I'm sure, but you can never tell. I guess he could started with just a frame and running gear as its not got the correct tank. Wayne...

I made the below post a couple weeks ago and didn't get any replies. So, perhaps someone could chime-in on this follow-on question I have. A friend of mine rode Dalesman trials bikes (with PUCH motor) back in the early 1970s. He told me all three of his bikes he had (with the PUCH) all "lost" first gear and that it is nearly impossible/very difficult to fix; I assume what's happening is that the first gear teeth break off the spline. He tells me this is a very common problem with the PUCH 125cc motors in the trials bikes. Besides not riding the bike, does anyone have a suggestion that could reduce the chances from this happening? I was thinking of pr…

I'm working on a 74 Sherpa T that I recently purchased. The bike was in storage for over 10 years and was reported to be "in running order" when it was put away. But after tearing in to the motor I found she is stuck solid. The broken kick start shaft probably should have been a clue So now I need suggestions on how to get it apart to do a proper job of getting her back in order. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A freind of mine brought his two SWM's to my house the other night to see what I could do with them. one is a 81 240 (black framed) in box's and peices. The other one is a 82 240 ( blue frame no rear loop) that rolls on it's wheels but alot of bits to it in a box too. So after a note to MartinM to see what the correct plug should be ,I cleaned the tank and carb , dropped in a new plug and some good fuel and the 82 ran on its own ! I just had to try it out ... And I have to ask those that may know , is the 240 fantic a whole lot more powerful than these or do I just have alot more work ahead of me ! Now that the 82 does run at least , it gets remanufactured ,The bike is s…
