Twinshock

  1. Started by feetupfun,

I've recently bought an unused SM Highboy TY175 frame kit. I am in the process of puting it together to ride. I have have never seen another one and am trying to learn all I can about it. The frame looks remarkably similar or identical to a Whitehawk TY175, but it has a fibreglass one-piece SM seat/tank unit rather than the Whitehawk setup. Can anyone give me some leads or info about this bike? All I have heard so far is that they have a tendency to crack the front frame tubes and that the frame was probably made by Dave Cane. All suggestions welcome thankyou photos here http://www.trials.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=7408

I was sent his link to probably the finest twinshock video footage i've seen in years. It's of fantic's, Bultacos and swms at the italian world round and the fantic factory . It really captures the 70's feeling and has some cool riding and a mean looking section. Slightly off topic but i'm sure you guys will like it.It takes a bit to download but well worth the wait. Go to http://www.fanticmotorlegend.it and then FANTIC PAGES .....then videos and then click on the trials links

  7. Started by bridgwaterjohn,

I now have all the parts to reassemble my Cota engine, I am checking things prior to assembly and one thing I am not sure about is the kick start shaft. It appears that the assembly is as follows. The shaft is located inside the engine in a brass bush, a circlip and washer are next, and the shaft then goes through the engine casting where there is an oil seal. , the outer casing and bush are next followed by the kick start. My query is should there be a spacer after the oil seal, or if not what stop the shaft moving inwards, if this happens the cam on the kick start shaft will foul the case as is kicked over rather than correct position were the can hit the stop. Has …

I bought a brand new tank and seat for my Cota 247 ages ago but it was a bit wider than standard and so I never got round to fitting. I finally rigged up some rubber mounts and got it secured and it looks good but when I put fuel in it - it leaked from the petcock and I removed and used plumbers tape then sealant and then I had a good close look and this is what I found. I guess at some stage it has taken a knock on the petcock and now it's cracked. Suggestions please

I am rebuilding a Montesa 242 and although the bike is low hours and relatively untouched, when I washed the clutch case and gearbox out with petrol, what looks like thrust washer dropped out of the primary case, evidence as you can see, a ham head took the clutch apart, the nut was also loose, has anyone any advice on dismantling these clutches please? Many thanks 242.pdf

This beauty is the latest addition to my bike collection. It's in Colorado so it will be about a month before I get 'hold of it. Looks like the "infidels" have had there way with it. I just feel lucky it hasn't been converted into a chopper yet. I hope to track down original seat, fenders, one side panel and wwhatever else it needs to get back to it's original glorious state. I must be sick.

Hi, just bought a Malcolm Rathmell replica from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 and was wondering what , if any , is different on the bike from a std 348 ? also what year was it made ? frame number is 51m 7995 with matching engine numbers. It rides superbly thou it may have a worn main bearing but for the price its a great toy Thanks Dave

A little while back I put new rings in my TLR200 and now she has better compression and more grunt. However my impression is that the engine is running hotter - i have no real way to measure it , it just feels hot. The plug is browny grey and clean. I also notice that the engine idles higher as it warms up and it is harder to start ie: takes more kicks. It stalls easily when cold and tends to kick back much more often than it ever used to. Any suggestions welcome

  19. Started by gaff,

Just found a Kawasaki KT250 (age un-known), toying with buying and restoring it. The bike has obviously been stood for many years, and there is a hole knocked into the right-hand casing that i can put the tip of my index-finger through (this could be repaired or replaced), but saying that, the bike does have a good compression and looks as though it is complete, even has the original fenders and not much wearing-off of the decals. Also there are two cables going into the top of the right casing, one's the clutch (?), but whats the other ? Lastly, what year/years were they made, what is spare's availabillty like and are there any web sites for these bikes. Thanks in adva…

I'm a beginner with Montesa Cota 348 (year 1978). Maybe someone could help me? 1. Any ideas on a firm that supplies gaitors and seat cover for my bike? 2. What kind of foam plastic I should use in the air filter? Have I to use air filter oil? 3. What oils to gearbox, clutch and front suspension?
