Hi, i`ve come across a real gem of a montesa 247, its been sat in a garage since 82 and is totally original although a little rusty in places and the seat has dried and split. Unfortunately the rear guard snapped at some point but I do have the part to piece it. Its road reg and still has the rob edwards stickers on the tank. Trouble is I cant get the thing to start. I`ve done everything I already know it will need. I emptied the tank and filled with fresh premix fuel. Ive checked the points and timing (.40mm gap and opening at 2.5mm btdc). the spark is blue and strong. I`ve completely stripped and cleaned the carb, the choke jet was blocked solid, the main wasnt much b…

I now have all the parts to reassemble my Cota engine, I am checking things prior to assembly and one thing I am not sure about is the kick start shaft. It appears that the assembly is as follows. The shaft is located inside the engine in a brass bush, a circlip and washer are next, and the shaft then goes through the engine casting where there is an oil seal. , the outer casing and bush are next followed by the kick start. My query is should there be a spacer after the oil seal, or if not what stop the shaft moving inwards, if this happens the cam on the kick start shaft will foul the case as is kicked over rather than correct position were the can hit the stop. Has …

hi guys, has anyone out here fitted a yam mono (drum brake) front end to a yam framed majesty 250 i understand that the mono yokes cant also be fitted? and have to mill out the STD ty yokes to accept the mono forks! does anyone know what the wheelbase will be after this conversion's been done? as the bikes already seems short with (i think) 51" wheelbase! if i cant get the above parts i need ive looked at the b+j racing web site and see there still doing the uprated( i think) fork springs and also a boyesson reed valve and alloy spacer kit that looks interesting, anyone tried these? on a different note i cut off the std footrest mounts and offered up the oversized foo…

I have decided to replace the AMAL 627 on my 76 MAR and go with the Mikuni VM Carb mod, what I would like assistance with is has anyone out there done this mod and what size Carb did they use and what size Jets did they select. The other question that I have is what setup was used for mounting to the Barrel and to the Airbox. Any and all assistance and recommendations will be greatly appreciated. Cheers Glen

Ive got a 320 majesty, the engine has recently been rebuilt so everything that matters is new, this work was carried out by someone who knows what they are doing. It has got the electronic ignition that craig mawlem sells. I have opened up the standard TY air box by removing the seat for the origional filter that restricts the air flow and fitted a TY mono filter to the top of the air box. It has a WES exhaust and a standard TY 250 Mikuni carb with larger jets, but after all this Im still having problems getting it set up to run ok. Its great in the sections but as soon as you get it out into the open fields and try to open it up it starts to pink and knock. The only thi…

This is it - 18mths down the road and far to much money invested, the end is in sight. A complete stripdown restoration-engine/gearbox every nut / bolt and seal i could find as been either replaced or reconditioned. She has matching engine and frame numbers, new stainess steel spokes and nipples original rims. Unfortuntley the `Hydrobag` rear shocks were beyond repair so new period `Falcons` were fitted. New electrical loom made, waiting for headlight surround to come back from the chrome people. Will post the completed photos soon. I am on the look-out for a new oject once the 348 has been sold.

A friend of mine bought a well used 348 Cota last year and rode it a couple of times without much pleasure. It was very hard to start and when it did, took time to pump up and go when you turned it on. It sat in his shed 'till last week when I went round to fetch it. He helped me move, so I told him I'd fix it. The bore was like glass and the piston clunked around in it, so I had it bored and put in a new 1st over piston. It started on the third kick after the new parts, and with a little fiddling with the Anal carb it ran very well. so... with my friend's blessing, I decided to give it a go last Sunday at the Blue Mountain trial, here near Vancouver, B.C. I took it ou…

Hi, just bought a Malcolm Rathmell replica from ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 and was wondering what , if any , is different on the bike from a std 348 ? also what year was it made ? frame number is 51m 7995 with matching engine numbers. It rides superbly thou it may have a worn main bearing but for the price its a great toy Thanks Dave
