Pre-65 Bikes

Hello, Further to the other 3TA thread, I have a question about shocks. I've had a read of all the other threads, and Falcon shocks are the ones I'm looking at getting, since they're made in England too, but what 'type' should I be looking at? Do I go for the pre-75 shock designed for limited suspension travel, or actual trials shocks? I'm looking at just the steel ones too. I also don't have a clue about what spring rate and length I should get. I assume it goes on rider weight etc, so I weight about 165lbs in trials gear. A quick google tells me a 3TA weighed originally 340lbs, original shocks were 11.9" long and spring rate 135lbs/in. Wild guess here, but ima…

Can someone please help with advice on crank end float for a C15. Based on Rupert Ratio and Google I am not clear whether it needs shimming to control the setting between crank and main bearing or is used to centre the con-rod in the barrel. Either way it seems to need a ‘dry’ build to measure the clearance but assume this will not take account of any gasket material between the crankcase faces, although this will be minimal. I have had the crank refurbished by Alpha bearings including a timing side bush to bearing conversion. Any experience/advice gratefully received.

Hi all, Just wondering what spark plug I should be using in my 500T. It's running a standard BTH TT magneto and the plug cap has no resistor in it. I do get a bit of sooting of the plug but I guess that's from running slow a lot. Thanks in advance.

Hi members. will someone tell me the best spark plug to use in a bantam 175 for trials use? and the best petroil mix using fully synthetic 2 stroke oil? ???ml per 5 litres petrol. Paul

what tappet settings are mostly used on 200cc cub with std cam & 9:1 comp (does this alter settings?) Haynes says .010 on inlet & exhaust but i have been told .04 &.08 and also .06 & .08! any idea what yours are set at?

Hi all. I am rebiulding a new Trialsbits WM1 21ins 40 hole non-valanced alloy rim, onto a standard Bantam front hub and would appreciate help with the spoke lengths I require, if anyone has the info available. I believe they are 10swg, but am not sure of the length and the hub was not in a wheel when the project was purchased, so I cant even have a stab at it The nipple holes on the rim are 7mm and i'd like to use stainless spokes if they are available. I hope to lace it myself, as I have rebuilt plenty of British iron, but never done my own wheels. I will have it trued by someone professional just to be safe, but I'm determined to have a bash at it. Thanks. Steve

hi. i was just wondering who sells or modifiys modified barrel and heads for bantams. also i have been told alot of people like the d7 engine more for trials is that true. thanks charlie

Hi, have just acquired what I assume is a 150 Villiers engine with 55mm bore. The gearbox,primary & flywheel mag seem fine. Unfortunately it's seized, so rather than rebuild this probably underpowered unit, I was wondering if a 197 bottom/top end would fit into the existing gearbox,primary,mag set-up? Thanks in advance... Hi guys, i'm about to fit my clutch plates - using an eight plate clutch upgrade. My experience with more modern bikes is to soak the plates before fitting. As my engine is likely to sit on the bench for some time as i'm keen to do this. Consequently, i'm seeking advice on what oil to use? I'm not too fussed about price i'd rather run with something that doesn't encourage slippage. QM

Hi. I've modified my Cub forks to have cartridges but now need new fork springs. Could anyone advise what sort of rate I might ask for when speaking to the various suppliers, who I guess include Hagon, YSS, etc? On the rear I'm thinking a set of Betor Alloy jobs for £150-ish. Hi guys. Well after a long week it looks as if my brother as bought two bikes off of a e-site that should be Ok for the pre 65 Scottish but do you think we will get an entry.The Ariel Ht 5 comes from Scotland, in the same spec as it left the factory. And the B40 as every thing BSA on it .So give us a clue or should our name be Miller or Andrews.or even "Bultaco Banbury Dan".

Gotta build up my first Ariel 500 bottom end, any tips or things to aim for? Also, the roller bearing numbers would be useful so I can get some locally. I`m having the crankpin done for me, as haven`t got a press nor the experience to do one myself. What sort of end-float should I aim for? cheers

I have recently fitted new UPB PVL type electronic ignition and UPB Delorto Carb to my cub in an attempt to make it run better. I consider these good pieces of kit and already set up to run with my engine. (Bob is very helpful). The engine currently oils plugs and appears to run rich. It dies when the throttle is opened quickly and will not rev above 1/2 throttle. The symptoms get a bit better each time a new plug is fitted but not great. I didn't rebore the barrel when I built it as it seemed o.k. I fitted a good standard piston with new rings (all at +40"). This is my 1st engine build. It seemed to run o.k once the rings bedded in but has got proressivly worse…

Hi there , ive just bought these forks for my Cub , they are 30mm diameter sliders the yokes have a big offset and have the tapered top Does any one know what they were off and how old are they suitable for the pre 65 scottish ?

Hi Just wondering haveing built a bantam and have a collection of parts over as you do, with Telford coming up have thought about doing another,question is which ignition pvl or electrex the latter being cheaper aside most people I have chatted to have the electrex is there a reason for this besides price I have pvl in mine Many thanks

Disregarding an aftermarket frame, what mods have you done to your cub in order to improve competitiveness?

Out of my area of expertise, but a friend of mine is thinking of buying this bike, it's got a Triumph tank on it with what he thinks is a BSA C15 engine but the sellers not sure what to class it as. He asked me knowing I have trials bikes but my knowledge is Spanish Twin shocks so I said I'd ask on his behalf. Can anyone help him out. Thanks lads.
