Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by timdog,

I have a c15 which has standard road gearbox, I’ve lowered gearing including primary drive to make first ideal for sections but obviously it makes fourth rather slow and the rear sprocket is large, chain has jumped off couple of times. I’m not very up on gearbox internals so hoping someone can help. If I replace 1st and 2nd with these 29 tooth 40-3176, + layshaft 2nd gear 26 tooth 40-3132 and mainshaft or 2nd, 24 tooth 40-3130 will it make significant difference. Does it lower first gear internally so I could reduce size of rear sprocket. Thanks in advance for any help

  3. As most of you know this winters "project" was an upgrade for the bike i am using in Pre 65 and Classic Trials to replace the old B40. Well it's "finished" in as much as a competition bike is ever finished. Anyway now the real work starts. Fine tuning carburation, playing about with flywheel weights, ignition timing, port timing, suspension rates etc etc etc. And yes i know the frames the wrong colour but i couldnt find any maroon and i had loads of black plus i like black frames

Hi All, Does anyone make longer spindles for the front hub of a D14 Bantam? I've got a set of MP600 forks I want to fit instead of the BSA 'Cub' ones and the spindles are about an inch short each side. Thanks in advance!

Has anyone got any advice regards cam followers on a B25, I'm pretty sure I've got one sticking that releases then drops making a metal on metal sound, or they're touching each other, the noise is only there when the engine gets hot.

I've just spotted this HT5 for sale, advertised on the leboncoin site. It's in France, just south of Paris and asking €9900, which is about £9000. Could be of interest to someone, but, alas, not moi.

Hi, I need to fit an engine kill switch to a 1960 Greeves with 250 villiers engine. The switch I have is a standard Yamaha TY replacement, with one back wire and one black/white lined wire. Can anyone tell me how easy this is to fit, I understand that one wire should be attached to the coil and one to an earth, but to be honest I'm not at all good with electrics and stay well clear of them usually! Any help would be appreciated Thanks

Can anyone help me? I've recently bought a 1959 cub, nominally it's a T20C but there seems to be very little of the original bike left! The forks need some attention and I'm trying to identify them. I am sure they are HW and off a nacelle faired model 3TA/5TA. The springs are internal but the stanchions do not have fill holes at the top as they should according to the manual I downloaded. Can anyone tell me if there is more than 1 model of internally sprung HW telescopic forks?

Hi I am building a Francis barnet up and am looking for a tank to suit. I know about the lovely holtworks tanks and also the ossa? style tanks that look very nice too. But does anyone know of any more tanks that suit the bike? Ideally looking for something slimline and not too expensive (not that the others are expensive for what you get) i just want to keep my budget down. thanks

Hi all, I'm just starting to make the fuel tank for my Bantam and was wondering about fuel capacity, how much fuel do you think a trials Bantam needs? I'll only be doing club events and won't be doing any road trials, is a gallon enough capacity? Thanks.

I collected a pile of bits from John Bartram yesterday afternoon for me and a mate,(Well he says he is when he wants a favour...) I now have a new frame and all the other very smart bits that John makes, including the first of the new design of swinging arms we persuaded him to design and make. This afternoon I laid it and all the other parts I have so far,I thought it would enthuse me to start the dry build... Bit of a shock really, its a realisation of what is ahead. There are some very nicely made bits there,John Bartram,John Budgen,Alan Whitton and Mick Ash are great to deal with, and clearly are able to deliver the goods.I took a picture so I can keep track of what els…

I would like to convert a Triumph Tiger Cub for trials. I have two Triumph Tiger Cubs basket cases. I would like to know what should be done. What forks to use? What motor mods should I do? What aftermarket trials parts are there for a cub? One of them somebody had started to convert already it is a roller.
