Pre-65 Bikes

Well having arrived in Kinlochleven at 3am on friday we've just got back! Two great days of trials half decent weather with rain ( drizzle mostly ) and a fair degree of sunshine. Paul Heys seemed absolutely determined to win , his concentration was a step above most others, Tony Calvert is a very cool customer and he always looked in control. the frist day started with the observers on the first two sections standing on the wrong two sections! ( they were in fact on saturdays sections, ) an impasse looked inevitable until a resolute we've started so this is were we'll observe decsion was made. and so the riders made thier attempts. Mick Grant took a 5 for a tumble as h…

I'm assembling a C15 and see that the drive chain hits the inside of the engine cases. By inside, I mean the clutch side. This is a 428 chain with the smallest (13 tooth?) sprocket. I know you can run a 520 chain so something must not be correct. Can someone tell me what a notmal or expected clearance should be? A couple of pictures are attached.

Hi all, my mate has pulled his c15's gearbox out of the centre casing without removing the clutch so all the bits kind of fell out. The camplate has been inverted to give an other-way-round gearchange. He's stripping the clutch off the shaft to reassemble it but was wondering if the selector forks still go back in the normal way that they would with the camplate the right way up. The reason he's opened it up is that it's jumping out of first gear, any ideas?? Thanks for any help / info, Craig

  7. My old man is finally going to ditch the horrible standard ignition system on his C15S. What options do we have on a electronic version? I think we would like to go down the crankshaft mounted route to avoid the backlash in the distributor system. Do any of them have lighting coils fitted as standard/option. Thanks

Hi, anyone know of any very light oil l(5w) that's good for primary chain case lubricant. I have tried a mineral transmission fluid that was OK but did tend to let the plates slip after a short period which was noticeable on kick starting. I did wonder if Diesel oil would be any good?

Hi everyone, I am confused by the process of adapting modern internals into a pre-65 type fork leg. I am an engineer by trade, but find it hard to visualise the process. Is anyone out there able to explain the concept? Do you bore out the classic fork bottom? That would weaken it. Do you make special bushes? That would be difficult, as modern fork stanchions tend to be of larger diameter than classic. Do you machine the outside of the modern leg, and somehow fit the entire modern fork within the classic fork bottom? I can only imagine that classic fork legs must be chosen carefully, with larger diameter ones preferable, or modern forks chosen that are close to the d…

Hello all Why do we have this so called pre 65 rule book which i hear quoted at every trial when clearly most of the bikes do not fit within the so called rules! Mcdonald cubs that do look the bizness and brand new dots that are 2010 made..how are they pre-65? frames are nothing like the originals front loops. there not meant to be altered are they. but all the trails i have been to recently the organisers havnt battered an eyelid. it seems ok to run these trick extra light engineering genious machines..but its not pre 65. How do the dots get into the scotish? there not pre 65/67. Am i loosing the plot bringing this up does anyone else seem to be bothered this all happe…

  11. Hi All, I have the opportunity to get a 1964 DOT Demon square section scrambles frame with 2 Villiers engines(197 and 250). Can anyone tell me the difference between the trials and scrambles frames and what the necessary mods would be to make it suitable and/or better for trials please?

hi there, I'm planning to convert my Royal Enfield Crusader from an Amal Concentric to a Villiers S22. Trouble is I have little or no information on settings or tuning of these carbs. I understand that these carbs are very good once set up, and if it was good enough for Gaunty! Does anyboby out there have any tuning or base settings for one of these carbs with the 250 RE, I also have a S24 and a S25, would one of these be better suited? I know that the current trend is for 22mm Dellorto's but at
