Hi, i'm just after any advice someone might be able to give me regarding piston / bore clearance when reboring the barrel of my villiers 32a engine. I have been given sizes ranging from 2 to 5 thousandths of an inch, what is the best clearance to have? Also where is the best place to get a new piston and do you need to fit a head gasket, I have been told it is not required. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi I've been trying for some time now to get some details on enlarging the capacity of my B25. It's had several mods already done, including changing the cam, and it now plonks and pulls pretty well. I would like to know the easiest way to get it out to say 280 ish ideally without having to bore the crankcases. I did hear a 650 triumph piston would do it? But which model and compression, is there enough on the standard liner to go out that big, if not what liner will I need? thanks Paul B

Hi Guys. I have decided to build an exact replica of Scott Ellis's last works BSA C15 F. I have several photos of the bike with Scott riding it, but only one picture of the bike from a side view, in Don Morley's book. Has any one out there got any side view shots of the bike, or does any one know where the bike BOK228C is. It is still registered at the DVLA as a BSA 250. ( this is the frame that the copy is now reffered to as an Otter). Regards Charlie.

Hi, I`ve recently bought a C15 head ( part no. 40-338) that according to the Rupert Ratio book is ` scrambles `59 `60 and big valve with 15/16 choke. The exhaust is standard C15 but the inlet measures 1" 7/16 ( no valves with head). I`ve read that SS80 is 1" 13/32, but does anyone know if mine is standard?. The inlet is ported but don`t know whether that is original or later. I need a new inlet valve and not sure where to get one? Thanks in advance, Dave

Looking through Ebay in the Trials area and see this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Triumph-196...=item439d3bdeaa Is this really a Trials Bike or just somebody trying to sell something? I sure can't picture trying to get that "lump of lead" around any Trials Section that I've ridden. I'm not knocking Triumphs, just can't see riding a section on something that big and heavy. Alan

  11. I need to find out the thread and length of the studs that thread into the crankcase on the Villiers 9e, 32a, 37a etc Want to get some new ones but i'm not sure of the thread in the crankcase, i think it's 5/16 Whit but i seem to remember the alloy barrel studs for a Greeves square barrel were also 5/16 Whit. However i have a pair of crankcases to be rebuilt into a spare engine that i feel sure are 5/16 W x 5/16 BSF which seems weird. Can anybody help with the correct thread and length?

  12. Hi need to replace the chain and sprockets on the James. Now it's been running on a 428 chain but i've seen some on a 520. Same with cubs now most people seem to run a 420 on the cub but it seems a bit light duty to me. So what does the panel think about chain sizes? i know sprockets are a personal choice but i was wondering what people are fitting to their Pre65 bikes. twinshock is easy as most of the factory details are pretty good anyway so stick with them but the Pre65 bikes are all so modified nowadays i was just wondering what you have fitted to your Cub, C15, B40, James, Bantam etc etc etc

the tail pipe on my villers engined bike is so close to the tyre as it passes inside the frame that it is wearing through. My question is does the tail pipe at the exit of the silencer serve an purpose? does its length effect performance? clearly if i mod it to fit easily inside the frame i will reduce its volume which i believe will restrict performance would shortening it so that only an inch extends from the silencer have any affect on performance?

Hi, Will kindly ask if any of you do know the mesaurements of threads at the back end of Amal MK1 body? I do need to extend the rear end of the carb by ~3" (have seen such solutions somewhere, made of nylon..on a Bantam) Do you think any tube ( for other assemby..?) with matching threads inside is available? I might can use a std part, Polished Alloy Bellmouths, but dont know if its perfect to seal the air boot to a chone. BR,

I have just bought a 2nd hand Dellorto that was from a Fantic 125, it wouldn't run properly the existing jets are 95 main 45 pilot had a job to read needle 22!. Has anyone running a Dellorto and could inform of their jetting success ?

  17. Started by pat,

Hi, Im confused.. reading at a well known classic trials dealers site..their default recommendation is 18" x 1.85" rim for e.g. Cub rear assembly. Are you satisfied with rear end trials set up: 4-5psi, 1.85" ally rim and available 4.00? (well, people did use 1.6" x 19" rear for trials and scrambler back in the days.........and agriculture vehicles did perform with none "rubbered wheels" at driven axles in an other century... ) cheers,

HI, Somebody out there must have a good tale or two regarding a boxing day trial, passed or present. Amusing, or a hard luck story, or both !. to kick off I'll start, I started up my C15 just to "check it out" on Christmas day afternoon in (I think) 1964. I knocked it into 1st gear and there was a "orrid" clunk, so I pulled the engine out of the frame took it into the warm kitchen at home at striped it and cured the problem. ( a tooth had fallen of a gear). My mom was not amused when I pushed the bike into the kitchen to fit the engine back into the frame, it had got very cold in the shed!, but she turned out as usual on boxing day with large flasks of hot coffee to …

Hello, I recently acquired a 1960 Greeves Scottish. I live in Washington State north of Seattle. It is in pretty rough shape but its not locked up and most all of the parts are there. My mission is to clean it up, get it running and ride it. Perhaps get into a few pre 65 trials. As I bought her (minus the Villiers carb and air filter) Tore it down to the frame. Cylinder is on the standard piston. Bore looks ok. Will probably go first oversize. gearbox is another story....lots of cleaning needed. Gonna ditch the points and get an electronic ignition. Probably the Greeves unit. 500 bucks! Any suggestions out there? This should be a fun project. Mike

Hi All, I'm new to the forum so go gently on me! I'm building a C15 for chugging up and down green lanes and the occasional really easy trial. I've decided to fit lights and have converted to 12V using a solid state regulator/rectifier. My question is, can anyone suggest a battery I can use? I just wanted the smallest, lightest 12 Volter I can tuck away somewhere with enough capacity to spit a few sparks out when I start the bike. it would be highly advantageous if I could fit it in any orientation so sealed or AGM would be ideal. I'm not particularly concerned about being able to keep the lights at full brightness at tickover. I don't really understand electrisity …
