I need to known the best set up for trials gearing, primary rato ,secondary ratio front rear sprockets etc. ,gearbox ratios etc,,,it looks like this motor has had the gearing changed in past maybe to used as a scrambler so i need to known the the best set up for trials and where to get sprockets gears etc. What sort of 1st gear ratio should be aiming at. Thanks in Advance Peter

tired of hitting the wrong lever on the cub after riding my beta . the cure would seem to be moving the brake lever over to the right, and using a cable instead of brake rod. anyone experience of this( did don smith do it on Greeves, was it done on bultacos'?) if so what should it look like or have you a picture. or can you reference or link a picture cheers yours in the garage..TS

Just got my Greeves Scottish on the road (actually a 250 TAS with a 37a wide gear cluster) but having problems with the clutch lever coming back to the handlebar when riding in slow traffic and a bad bunt oil/metal smell. One thing that struck me as odd was that there is a 1/16th inch end float in the clutch shaft. I have followed assembly of the gearbox to the official Villiers drawings so I'm baffled. I would be really greatful of some advise as there doesn't seem to be any useful info relating to assembly of these engines on the web. Cheers in anticipation..

Which way is the little oil pump cover/ sump plate supposed to be installed on a 1960 C15? The documentation from BSA does not say but a couple of their diagrams suggest that the deep part goes toward the front. However, I have a rebuild article that shows it installed toward the rear.

Just wondering how many people stick to Bantam forks when doing a Pre 65 Bantam trials build, are they usable? what mods if any? or is the C15 fork conversion a better bet? I've already got some Bantam forks (D7) so would like to use them if they're suitable, but if not I'll look for others, any recomendations? Thanks.

Hi all, Have a 250 replica james I have recently finished. The only problem is the carb. I have it on a MK1 amal 24mm, 20 pilot, 130 main and 105 needle with the clip in the top notch. The slide is a brass one and is a 3. Whilst it was fine at the previous trial it ran really rich on Saturday and cost me marks. The carb is a nearly new one so don't think there are any issues there. I am open to ideas as know they can be a bit funny on carburation. Thinking of a dellorto as they are faily cheap on e-bay. Any views welcome. Cheers Steve

There's been a lot of discussion regarding moving the start of the SSDT, most at present, want to stay as is. The start of the Pre 65 Scottish was ALWAYS at the old school, which has now been replaced by allweather football pitches (or something) Not a word, didn't affect the trial or atmostphere as far as I could detect, so the question is - Why would a move (admittely further) make such a differance ? Covered parking might encourage more traders to set up stalls and add to the hussel and bussel which seems to have been missing. Just a thought. Ross

Have had a problem with my AJS trials tank this weekend (absolutely gutted!!!!!) Where can I get a new one? I would like an alloy one, but a very good copy of an original one in fibreglass would be ok. I'd really like to have one with the original type filler cap, rather than a push and twist one that Miller sells. Any one got any pointers? Names / numbers and indication of price would be very much appreciated.

The small (17 tooth) gears on each of my C15s transmission shafts is a press fit on the splines. I used a gear puller to get them off. What is a good way to press them back on? I tried tapping with a hammer but they got stuck. Then I tried using a mill as a press and snapped off the hand lever (3/8"). I can see that the gear was not going on straight. It seems like they need to be pressed on very straight. Thanks!!

The Rupert Ratio book mentions a steel/ bronze combination sleeve gear bush for the C15. It says it is a later model option but the distributor and side points parts books do not show such a thing. Where could I purchase? I'm in the US if that makes a difference.
