Pre-65 Bikes

  1. Started by famousamos,

I've started riding a Tiger cub, and I'm wondering what differance's there is in the Tiger Cub motors. What is the time frame of the "round" barrel and "square" barrel engines? Is there a differance in the cylinder heads? Other differances in the motors? Thanks Fred

My B40 currently has silent block swinging arm bushes. I've felt for a while that the rear suspension has a slightly dead feel to it, and wonder if replacing the bushes with same would improve it. Alternativly, having some bronze (?) bushes made up with grease nipples. Any thoughts / experience ? Thanks Ross

I'm trying to find out what steering head angle ( or the angle of the fork tubes on a complete bike) is built into the Duncan Macdonald's tiger cub frames? http://www.armac-design.com Fred

Hi , anyone have a rough idea of the best gearing for a 1955 350 bullet for pre 65 trials? Is it done on final drive sprockets or can you change the engine sprocket? cheers Dave

Hi, Does anyone know what sort of job it is to kick out the RH seat unit tube to take an inside frame exhaust? Many Thanks

  9. Started by b40rt,

Hi All I recently changed the fork oil on my WD B40 and replaced it with 200ml TQF per leg , as before. Now they're topping out, I added 20ml extra per leg but all that did was reduce the movement, and still topped out. The forks are standard issue BSA with external springs. Any thoughts appreaciated. Ross

Idle thought to which any comments or knowledge are welcome. You could tie knots in the forks of my '49 350, also the front brake inspires little stopping resistance; I've yet to incorporate the advice in this forum on tweaking performance of SLS. So was thinking that if I could source say AJS Stormer forks and wheel this would be an improvement. I was thinking that they are not too modern for year of bike and should not be too out of place. Any comments on down sides ie falling foul of compliance rules or being an engineering nightmare to fit?.

I found an older post with a similar title and thought to reply to it but the last post was two years ago and I thought this deserved a new topic. Anyway, a few years ago I rescued a bike that was listed in the paper as a "Triumph Cun". Figuring he meant "Cub" I called him up and picked up this thing from the side of the guys barn. It was in ROUGH shape, missing the engine, tank, seat etc. I started collecting parts for it on eBay, even found most of an engine though it wasn't a T20M but a regular old T20. I even listed this thing on the Cub website that was started back in 2000 or so and it was through here that I found out that my bike was a Commerford's Cub…

working on the latest bike and changing oils etc. Mazzocchi 35 mm forks , what would a good 'starting' grade be and how much in each fork leg? Villiers 37a gearbox oil, what grade and how much and clutch, again what grade and how much? simple when you know as always but when starting from brown sludge anything has to be an improvement!! cheers.

Hello - I've just Reg'd with the site and I dare say the details of my bike are visible somewhere?. Can any one suggest an active trials club suitable for 4 stroke rigid frame competition. I'm in the SE 10mls SE of Gatwick airport, so far the only lead I've had is Bognor Regis & District MCC which I need to investigate further. Any other suggestions?, thanks in advance.

Sorry if it's a bit basic or has been asked before but........ is there a set of rules that pre 65 bikes have to follow or do different clubs have their own? I couldn't find anything on the ACU site, in fact couldn't find much apart from the Yorkshire Classic Trials site (good site). Anybody help? Thanks.

Does anyone have a diagram or detail on disassembling the Lucas distributors for single cylinder British bikes? I have the long shaft/ cam/ advance mechanism out of the outer housing. It is rusty but looks salvageable. I would like to know how it comes apart so I don't just start trying to pull stuff off and end up breaking it. Thanks!!

Hi I am new to the site & to trials too, though have built from scratch many British Frame based specials over the years. I have a couple of old Bantams, one based on a 69/70 B175 Bushman, which has been Trialled for 2 or 3 years, t'other is a D10 engined D7 & its gonna be a Trials style road runabout! I have a friend who is going to rebuild the Wheels for me shortly, & for the rear I wondered if anyone could advise what offset from central to have the rear wheels laced. I have 4.00 x 18" rear Trials Tyres, & was intending to use WM3 Rims, though it has been said that WM2 Rims should be used? I have some thicker rear engine plates from Rex Caunt Racing,…
