General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

First, I apologize if this has been answered. I'm trying to track down a over the counter API GL-4 gear oil for my 21' TXT300. My options are pretty limited to auto parts stores as I've already been to the local dealership. With KTM overseeing the production of GasGas, they only list the motorex brand gear oil in the manual. Nothing against motorex but between the cost of the oil, taxes, shipping, It's almost $40 for a quart of oil. Would this work? It's rated API GL-4 & GL-5 so it meets the criteria. https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/c/max-gear/oil--chemicals---fluids/maintenance-chemicals/lubricants/gear-oil---additives/75w-90/1e1e9866…

Hi I’ve got hold of a virtually unused Tx125 (2008) that’s been in storage. I want to convert it to a 225 either using a kit (S3?) or parts. Can anyone advise where I might get hold of the necessary bits? Many Thanks Andy

Checked the spokes on the youngsters Gasser the other day and found two adjacent spokes loose. No problem I thought, just tighten them up.... Trouble is, the thread on the spokes and/or the thread in the nipples appear to be sh***ed as any attempt to tighten just results in the nipple spinning and the spoke remaining loose. All other spokes appear fine. Any suggestions before I leap in and replace the offending spokes?

After much discussion the decision has been taken to cancel the Lakes 2 Day Trial. Despite restrictions on cattle movement etc being eased, many of these changes will not come into place in time for us to gain access to the land in time to organise an event of a standard that we would be happy with. This has been a very difficult decision to make but our relationship with the landowners has to be the priority. We apologise to all those who, like us , were looking forward to another great weekend in the Lakes All cheques sent for entry fees will be shredded. We thank you for your patience and understanding and assure you that we will make the 2008 event even more sp…

I'm about to apply for a French FFM comp licence and one of the criteria is that you must supply a doctors certificate, after a medical check up,basically to prove your fit to ride, another sign of insurance paranoia I suppose. Is this an ACU requirement yet I don't remember it being one but things might have changed. The 75 KT I am restoring has a threaded boss on the clutch perch for a mirror, but the front brake perch has no provision. I have been looking at all sorts of bikes, and I see some with a mirror, and others with none. What is the factory correct way? Thanks, Mark

Not wanting to revisit the much talked about issue of Fantic frames with cracks / movement at the steering head, as that as been covered many times previously. The lower frame tubes under the engine are also prone to bending and in some cases flattening slightly against the underside of the engine cases - see attached images. The two images are of two different bike circa 1984. Both have been hit from underneath, and then hammered from above to allow access to remove the casing. I believe most Fantics were fitted with a plastic sump guard originally. Looking at images of refurbished bikes, none of them have this issue, and the engine cases are well clear of…
