Youth Trials

For discussion on the Youth scene in the UK

  1. Hello from the Canadian side of the 'pond'. My son has a 2006 TXT 80 and I'm thinking of "refreshing" the top end. The OEM cylinder is a Morini and is made with iron (and is not Nicosil (sp?) coated). As a result I am considering a complete kit from Italkit (model CK.22.750.G). Anything I do will be an improvement to the (lack of) power output. Does anyone have any experience with Italkit and/or this particular kit? At the moment I'm trying to determine if the kit is available and from whom I could order it. Scooters and their support shops are not very popular here in N.A. Your help is appreciated. Dale

I have an older Beta 80 (with the cable clutch), all the newer manuals tell me to check the oil level with the sight glass...but I don't have one. Nor do I have a filler cap. How do I check levels and fill it?

Richmond Motor Club annual Cogden Hall Youth Training School The Richmond Motor Club annual youth training session took place at Cogden Hall, Grinton, last Wednesday and Thursday under torrential rain conditions. Despite appalling weather sixty four youngsters spent two full days with licensed instructors Richard Sadler, Guy Kendrew, Ian Austermuhle, Jack and James Stones, John Sunter, Rob Waite and Matt Maynard. The girls and boys were divided into eight age and skill groups, ranging from four years old to twelve which were instructed by all eight tutors so they enjoyed guidance from different people. Each of the eight age and skill groups were trained b…

My boy is 7.5 years old. He is a very tall lad for his age and is now too big for his oset. I'd like to get him onto a petrol bike, preferably a beta 80. Only problem is I can't find a medium wheeled bike for love nor money second hand. If I was to buy him a big wheel variant would he be eligible to compete with it in an ACU event? And if so what class would he be in? Im struggling to find any relevant info!!!

Hi. I'd like to find my boy a medium wheel 80 but it seems all you get second hand are big wheel versions. My question is can you retro fit a set of medium wheels onto a big wheel bike?

My son got his first petrol trials bike 2 months ago, I was lucky enough to find a Beta Evo 80 SW. One month ago we had our bikes stolen from my garage, my Gas Gas and my sons Beta. My question that I'm hoping someone can help with is: I'm having real trouble finding another 2nd hand Beta Evo 80 SW. But, I do see quite a few BW's. Although he's too small for the BW yet is the only difference between a SW and a BW the rim sizes? If so does anyone know if I can just buy a BW and re-rim and spoke the wheels to a small wheel size until his legs grow a bit? Thanks in advance for any help. Dave

Hi all. Looking to move my boy up from an Oset onto a petrol bike, mainly because he's outgrowing it fast, also because the hassle of being in the middle of a wood when the batteries run out is p***ing me off! if I go petrol the only option seems to be a beta 50 or 80. I know they don't make the 50 now, so a few questions. 1. Is there any other option bar a beta? 2. Is the 50 with a clutch and 4 speed a proper trials engine as the twist and go versions were little ktm units? am I better going straight to a medium wheel 80? Yes, he's only 7 but he is a big strong lad for his age and towers over his oset 20! Thankyou all!

  10. Sadly there are still instances of some parents not filling in entry forms correctly. Some don’t seem to appreciate that the entry form is a legal document and required to be correct in full for insurance purposes as well as getting their offspring in the right class. It is doubtful whether some parents ever read the small print. Karen Crabtree took sixty one entries for the Mansfield Maun B/C/D/ opening championship trial last Sunday. In that number twelve riders had no bike listed… The Bradford and Yeadon-Guiseley clubs are running youth trials on June 10 and 11 at Skyrakes and Brimham Rocks. Observers will be welcomed.

Gents I have a question. I am pretty new and looking at the offerings in 80cc for my boys it is hard to figure out the subtleties between the manufacturers 80cc bikes. If I understand correctly the Sherco 80cc is a full size frame with a little engine? The Beta 80 has a smaller frame and is available in big wheel version and small? I wish we had more interest in Canada so I could just go to a couple dealerships and check them out, but it is hard to find them here at all. thanks

Hi all, after a little advise, I'm looking to get my son a trials bike for his birthday in a couple of weeks. I have been looking at getting a beta 80 junior, but these are like hens teeth in the second hand market. Are 80 big wheeled bikes the same size as a full size bike?? I don't want to get him a big wheel and then he finds it to big and heavy and doesn't enjoy it! He knows his way around bikes, rides a ktm 65 in enduro. Can ride my bike but feels it's to big and says he wants a small one here he is riding mine to guage his size....

Evening all. My boy has an Oset 20 lite that he's fast out growing. Add to that the frustration that the batteries didn't quite last the distance in a trial the other day and the very on/off power delivery that an electric bike gives and I'm thinking of moving him on to a little petrol bike. Im completely out of touch with the kids scene so what are my options! He's nearly 7 but he's a big strong tall boy for his age. It seems to be only beta's as far as I can see. Don't really want to spend too much at this stage as I'm not convinced he's big into it yet!!! p.s. There's a Sherco 0.5 for sale locally. Any thoughts on that???
