Classic Trials

I just returned from this event near Montreal last weekend. It's only in it's third year but building a good following... with near 100 riders from central Canada and northeast US competing this year. Mick Andrews was also along helping out with the trials both days. Beautiful weather on Saturday, and even the heavy rains of Hurricane Irene didn't dampen the enthusiam too much on Sunday! Thanks to event host Eric for the loan of a Yamaha TY after my Ariel's mag expired! can anyone tell me in which order the felt seal on a cub gearbox is applied,or provide a drawing,is it,oil seal,felt seal,retainer then bearing?or can i just use two oil seals?

Hello readers. I am building a pre-65 James trials bike, converting a 1955 Captain to Commando spec. I need some information about the optimum size for the rear sprocket as I don't want to buy more than one if I can help it. At the moment I have the standard clutch and engine sprocket with a 17 tooth 420 size gearbox sprocket. The rear wheel sprocket is 46 tooth 420 which gives road ratio. Clearly this is too high for trials use so does anyone have recommendations? I would prefer to change just the rear sprocket if possible but all offers of advice will be appreciated. Just had the results through for last weekends Derbyshire Dales Trial. There appears to have been some manipulating of the results with regard to time penaltys. I say manipulating because what can't speak can't lie ! How can someone who was nearly an hour late (as per the calculation taken from his punch card) have no penaltys in the published results ? Especially after time penaltys were initally entered on the score board and the words excluded also entered by the side of his name on the day ? What is the point in people traveling from all over the UK & rushing round, when such blatant flouting of the rules occurs for certain "local" people ? Then to be told th…

Have just re-built the carb on my 240 with all fresh bits and am trying to get it set up right. I know what worked before but it was all pretty worn then, any advice on the best practice for setting it?? Thanks .

Hallo my Name is Thorsten i come from Germany. A few weeks ago i bought a Garelli 320 in italy. The engine runs bad. I bought some parts for the carburator new. The main jet was 100 The pilot jet was 50 The needle was X21 The nozzle was CX 270 (this part comes from Dellorto directly) Does enybody of you know what parts are regulary in the carburator? I need some other information. What spark plug is right? Now i put a Campion N 12 from my SWM inside. What is the inigtion timing? What kind of Oil comes in the Transmission ? In my SWM is automatic Oil. I hope i become information and it is possible for me to restore this funny bike. Thank you

Hello - I've just bought a B40 frame / C15 bike and have now got it running - sounds fantastic! I was going to put a new back mudguard on the bike but when I took off the existing one I found that the rear wheel runs very much closer to the shock absorber on the silencer side of the frame than to the one on the chain side. The rear wheel runs in fact about 1" off the centre line of the rest of the rest of the frame (or so it looks to me). Is this normal? And if it is how do I fit my nice shiny new 5" mudguard? It won't easily line up with the little holes in the bracket behind the seat - or at least not in a way that runs 'true'. I do of course have 342 other questions a…

Hi Guys Picked the Villiers 10e engine on weekend. my first villiers engine. Which is suitable Frame for this engine. Francis Barnnet , James , Cotton , Dot ? , i think bantam frame will too much of work. ? just thinking if i get some rolling frame want to build trials bike .. I heard the Villiers 10e engine used in Cotton starmaker and they it convert to 250cc or greeve not sure. Any advise/suggestion. Regards

Hi All, A friend of mine owns a 1958 tiger cub converted for Trials and my question is how important is it that the wheels are central to the frame and wheels in line as to centre? There is very little clearance for the chain as regards the rear tyre. He is a little obsessed to get the wheels central and in line and has started to cut and weld (bodge)the frame. I think he is slowly destroying the bike. The swingarm has been widened a long time ago and the engine was over in the frame as far as it would practically go but the wheel rim was off centre so as to clear the chain. I suspect they mostly all suffer this problem.Is there A way to get this right without cutting and…

Evening all, My old dad has riden trials on and off all his life. He has riden bultacos the last 15 years or so.but now finds them too heavy. I personally think it may have somthing to do with lack of maintenance and the bike being a bag of bolts! Any way........I am wondering if there is an alternative for him. He is convinced a lightweight trick bsa bantam holds all the answers. I reckon a modern lil 4 stroke with electric start. Either way just wanna keep the old boy riding . Many thanks

Have your daughter ride with you even if she is no good and hates it? 5. Find a friend in Scotland from which to post your entry? 6. Put your entry in the envelope with a former stars? All of the above I don't object to the likes of Mick Grant, Eric Boocock, Mick Wilkinson, Peter Gaunt etc and other well known names getting an entry.
