In the 1980s I used to muck about on trials bikes such as a Moto Gori 250, never done comps just enjoyed trying to become better at using the bike. so now I want to buy a trials bike for much the same reasons and maybe in some distant future have a go at an easy beginners event but I want to enjoy taking time to get used to any machine I buy. I am slim and fit enough so no worries about that, just missing skills and abilities I have been looking at the new montesa 260 and also classic bultaco project bikes so trying to stay open minded After taking with a montesa dealer it seems that 2 strokes may need a piston after 200 hrs and then nikasil lined the…

Being "vintage" myself, I decided to go the vintage path in trial bikes. (Innately I asked about 90's Fantic, and received helpful information, but I think my heart is the vintage design and look) By vintage I mean air cooled bikes. I'm 6'0 tall and weight about 165lb. Looking for a fun trail bike to learn the basic and maybe in the future to participate in the category of vintage trials bike races. My main concern is getting spare parts for the bike. I'm locate in the US. From what I read the main 2 option are Yamaha TY125 or Honda TLR reflex. From the to option above- any year engine combo recommendation? Did I miss other bike option? …

I bought a Sherco 290st the other day and its great apart from the clutch. When started from cold the clutch won't disengage so if you drop it into gear the bike shoots forward. If you keep dropping the clutch with the engine off and rolling the bike back and forward it frees off. I take it that's not normal. Also once riding the clutch does seem slightly heavy I don't know how heavy it should be but I'd say it's sightly heavier than my mx bikes clutch.

I have a yamaha ty175 and the clutch lever has to be let almost right out before it engages. I have tightened the adjuster on the handlebar in as far as it will go and it still is to far out to be able to control it properly when riding. Is there anyway of adjusting it more maybe on the engine end so that it engages a few centimetres from the handlebar. Thanks

I am familiar with the AMAL concentric Mk1 carb but is the Mk1.5 the same as a Mk1 with the addition of a choke. The Mk2 looks different externally but what are the changes from the Mk1 & Mk1.5. Is the jetting & slide common to all three types ?

Can anyone help me to identify these forks which are from a B40 trials bike I got earlier in the year (Surrey area). I've stripped them to replace the seals which were shot but cannot find anything to suggest a manufacturer. Stanchions are 32mm diam and 597mm long (parallel along entire length) There were two 42mm x 32mm x 7mm seals in each fork (is it normal to have 2 seals?) I'd like to get info on what volume and sort of oil to use in them Thanks in advance for any replies.
