  2. I'm hoping that someone can give me some advice or pointers on how to solve a carburation problem on my and#39;53 350 matchless which is fitted with a 26mm MK1 concentric carb. The bike had been running fine but I started having problems on her last outing when she started 8-stroking and "hesitating" when I opened the throttle. My initial optimistic thought was she was running rich due to a combination of higher altitude and exceptionally warm weather. The problem was still there when I got her home, and on further examination I found the nuts holding the carb to the manifold (head) had loosened a little, and that she was drawing air (weak rather than rich???). I'…

Hi Just wondering about the finish on the billet aluminium hubs and if it is worth while getting them anodised to protect them and keep them clean? Do many people run them without being anodised? Jonny

You may have seen at the Malvern show a really fantastic Mick Andrews replica James frame on Alan Whitton's stand. I have been thinking of building a really trick James, possibly inspired by the one in the Classic Dirt Bike mag and thought that this frame would be the right place to start. Having spoken to Alan it appears that ther are currently only 2 of these in existance at the moment, Mick's own one and the one that Alan is building for himself. They are made from 17guage T45 and there have been a few mods including slight adjustments for the steering geometry as required my Mick. All in all this has to be one of the best James frames around with superbly finish…

Hi all and a very Christmas. I am in the throes of Building a RE Crusader trials bike and having got all the parts off the bike that I don`t need I`m just a little concerned about the width of the frame at the point where the seat will go. Is there any practical way of narrowing that part so that I don`t have to go bandy-legged to ride it? I have tools and a welder I just need a good idea. Many thanks, Hazel

  6. Hi where are people getting replacement simplex primary chains from, now in-motion is out of stock of these chains? What is the correct size of chain? I just wondered if a different manufacturer makes something that’s a direct replacement for the joresa chain? Any help in getting a affordable replacement is very much appreciated. thanks 🙏

Hi all, I have a '55 US model G80CS pretty original condition that I ride regularily in Historic bike club rallies and rides. I have been doing modern trials for a year now, and feel like my skills are at the point where I can trust myself on an 'old bike' without the fear of trashing it too much. So, I am starting the thought process of deciding on what bike to buy, build or find! A friend of mine has an original G3LC trials, believed to be '56, which has the same full width hubs as my G80CS, seemingly correct rear subframe, and gerling shocks. That said, he'd never let me ride it in a trial, however, I've ridden it more than he has! At least I have good refere…

  10. My SWM has had it's footrest moved down and back thus making the rear brake pedal position a bit off for one with smaller feet...needs to be further back and lower to be ideal...cut and shut would be too easy. Now the rear brake pedal acts a class 1 beam lever....load-fulcrum-effort, so if I shorten my lever this means I will loose some mechanical advantage, not good. I should know the answer to this question but here goes.... ....if I call the original 'effort-pedal-foot-touch' point 'A' and weld a strip of metal to this original point but below & at an angle of 45' and at a point 2" further back in the direction of the rear wheel & call this position B, would…

Hi all Does anyone know where I can get a schematic diagram of how to assemble a villiers 4 speed gearbox (36a) as I have wasted a huge amount of time getting it wrong-I can only select 2 gears and you have to stamp on the gearlever to get them.

Hello all. Im in need of some advise of where I can buy plastics for a project I have here in New Zealand. They need to be universal fit plastic mudguards which would suite an 80's bike, TY etc. Ive found a couple of places further afield but would like to know if there are more local places which will have a more desirable delivery charge. Thanks in advance.

I'm looking for a sump guard for my Cub. I've seen this snazzy looking thing from Sammy Miller...er made of plastic. Can I ask whether anyone has fitted one of these and if they are robust. I'm guessing the alternative is the steel one from Meridan offroad

  20. Hi guys, i'm completely new to trial riding but thought i'd give it a bit of a try after buying a tiger cub in (many) assorted bits. I've no trials experience but would like to build an 'all round bike' that i can ride round the garden, green lanes and very occasionally go to the shops on. My budget is limited. I'm starting with the engine (currently dismantled and i've got two of most things!) and have got a couple of questions that i was hoping i might get advice on: 1) I've got two sets of gears one has got what looks like a standard 17 tooth engine sprocket (rear drive) on it with a very (very) hooked and missing teeth. The other set of gears look much clea…
