Can anyone help me with the dimensions and shape of the pivot bracket for the propstand off a 320TL. I am about to strip the paint from the frame and swinging arm and I thought that I could replace the bracket that was missing when I purchased the bike. Judging by the weld that's left it looks like it was 35mm long and 5 or 6 mm wide where it fits onto the swinging arm. I haven't been able to take a photo of it but will add one if I get the chance. Thanks

Now that my SWM is running reasonably well (still needs cosmetics) I have noticed, or imagined, that it does not pick up a quickly as my Aprilia did, is this entirely down to flywheel weight ? I suppose the sensible thing would be to take them off and weight them, but if some one knows ? Were there any other differences between the two Rotax engines, apart from clutch covers on the later Aprilia's ? Thanks Ross

HI can anyone tell me where to position the disc valve in relation to TDC or BDC on a 1980 tl320. I cant see any marks on the engine and as I received the engine in several boxes I am in the dark. I think that the disc should start opening just as the crank goes past BDC but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi all. In the process of "trying" to remove the barrel for a re-bore. The four long studs that go right through to the crank case are solid. Haven't been touched for decades. I have been regularly spraying them with wd40 & duck oil but so far no movement. A friend has suggested a hot air gun, which I haven't bought yet, is this the best way ? Any other suggestions ? Thanks Ross

Can anyone help me please, I have just bought an 81 SWM 320. The problem is that the engine and gearbox came in a vaiety of boxes and many different parts. As I have never stripped one of these before I am not sure how to put it back together, has anyone got some exploded diagrams, perhaps on cd-rom that I could use this would be very helpful thanks. James

I am in the process of rebuilding the engine on my 1982 320TL. Everything was going fine until I came to setting the ignition timing. I know that it should be between 2.6 and 2.8 BTDC but I can't rotate the stator plate enough to achieve this. Can someone help by taking me through the process for setting the ignition timing as I am probably making an elementary mistake! Cheers Chris

  12. I competed in my first trial last weekend on the TL320. I managed to make a grand mess of the event, and found that I killed the engine in nearly every section. Never had that problem in all my practice on level ground, but there was little level ground at the trial! A couple of the old timers suggested that I lower the gearing on the bike. Several people independently commented that the bike seemed to be geared rather high. Since my existing rear sprocket is looking well-worn, I suppose this is a good time to consider a gearing change. So what gear combinations work for those of you competing on TL320s?

Right folks I have been considering a twin shock for some time and I'm thinking of getting one for the summer months to see if I enjoy it more than the Gas Gas I currently have. A combination of getting Bernies book off santa many years ago and SWMs being in short supply when my dad was a dealer for them meant that although I always wanted one I never actually owned an SWM. So if I go the twinshock route the SWM seems a likely candidate I have been offered a frame yokes and a seat /tank unit from a 280 but whats the chances of locating a motor ? will early air cooled aprillia rotax motor fit or the armstrong rotax ? I assume the Gori one will ??

I have just bought a TL320 '82 with Rotax engine. From a copy of a US maintenance manual I understand that there should be a kind of external stop for the kick starter to avoid damage to the left side engine (clutch-) cover. I can't see any such mechanism on my SWM. Could anyone please describe it for me - if possible with a picture too?

I thought you SWM enthusiasts might enjoy a picture of my SWM project .The bike is a 1980 Tl 320 that was originally sold in England, imported to Califoria in the late 80's and found last year in a salvage yard in Montana. I have tried to replicate Bernie Schriebers last Factory TL320 before he started riding the Jumbo. My project incorporates all of the mods from the french Burgat article on this forum and everything I could see from the photos in Bernies' book "Observed trials". My only real change from the original factory bikes is a modified Pro Circuit Racing silencer that weighs about a fourth of what the original did. That and other weight reduction mods bring the …

In amongst the van full of bits I collected from Italy last weekend were a selection of "works" modified front pipes. The top picture shows a standard chrome finish front pipe with the modified ones either side. I had a quick attempt at fitting them on my bike, but both would need the fins removing from the head before fitting...which I might try at a later date. The third pipe fitted straight on my bike, and has a couple of extra bends before it hits the middle box, and looks similar to the production front pipe on the Jumbo 350's. It looks neater, but I cant say it runs any different.

Anyone know a source for rotax kick start hubs(not the lever, the piece that clamps on the shaft)? Mine snapped the other day and I have not had much luck finding a replacement. Is Comeca still in business, they were offering them a few months back, but I can't seem to find them on the web now. Help! Thanks ,Jim

Saw this on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk:80/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ME:B:SS:GB:1123 Says that the 240 & 320 are the same barrel but bored out, is this correct ? Are the heads completely different or modified to suit ? Also how many rings does a 320 (280) piston have ? Thanks in advance Ross
